This setup can indeed be quite challenging, though everyone has thoroughly studied the script and can perform their parts well.
But not knowing the opponent means there's no chance to rehearse together, requiring more impromptu performance, relying on one's own experience to act alongside the opponent on stage.
Such a mode inherently leads to all sorts of situations unfolding on stage.
Such as one party scrambling hard, making it impossible for the other to perform.
And so on, and there are many issues.
