As for Arindel... it was simply bad luck. If Kenter and others had a little more courage, he wouldn't have died.
In other words, the opponent killed Arindel purely on convenience; killing him was good, but it didn't matter if he wasn't killed.
The research association people were well aware of the grudges between the Cyan Blade Commerce Association and Panda, and since they had already killed one Supreme, killing another didn't matter.
The key issue is: What exactly happened to make the opponent's hatred for Cohen surpass that for Arindel?
The answer was quickly found; not long before, Hoyel's Guard Captain was driven to suicide, and his wife died in a suspicious fire.
