The assault team used the cover of night to approach the base of the insect nest through an abandoned underground pipeline.
The inner walls of the pipeline were coated with a layer of viscous organic matter, occasionally wriggling as if it possessed life. Anna's scanner indicated that these were the "neural pathways" of the insect nest, used for transmitting information and nutrients.
"We are being watched."
Anna warned in a low voice, her expression solemn: "These materials can sense vibrations and temperature changes."
Victor sneered, his fingernails suddenly elongating into sharp claws: "Let them watch then."
With that, he quickly slashed across the wall, and the organic matter immediately withered and died.
The team continued onward, eventually reaching an entrance leading into the insect nest's interior. The sight before them made even the battle-hardened warriors gasp in shock.
