The next day, Aurelia Shaw fell gravely ill, trapped in a haze where she couldn't distinguish dreams from reality, only feeling a warm embrace holding her, gripping her hand, pulling her up from the abyss.
After who knows how long, Aurelia woke up, opened her eyes, and found herself alone in the room. The corners of her mouth curled into a self-mocking smile; who was she hoping would be there? How could Mason Nightshade possibly take care of her?
Aurelia went downstairs and saw Mason sitting there. She hesitated for a moment, feeling her heart sink heavily. Her throat tightened, and she took steps forward, each one feeling burdensome, her feet trembling slightly as she clenched her hands into her palms.
Aurelia sat opposite Mason Nightshade.
Mason looked up at her briefly.
