The massive black-and-gold carriage rolled to a smooth halt in the heart of the capital's grand square.
The moment the lacquered door opened, the entire festival ground fell into reverent silence. Nobles in fine silks, armored guards, merchants with their stalls, common men and women, and even small children — everyone dropped to their knees without hesitation.
Foreheads touched the cobblestones in perfect unison. The glowing night flowers and countless lanterns bathed the sea of bowed heads in soft blue and gold light.
A heavy figure emerged first — the Daimyo. His massive frame was draped in formal black robes embroidered with golden dragons.
He stood tall on the carriage step, surveying the kneeling masses like a god looking down upon mortals.
The air was thick with the scent of incense, roasted meats, and night-blooming jasmine, yet the only sound was the distant crackle of festival lanterns and the faint rustle of silk as people held their breath.
From the same carriage stepped several women, one after another. Their sheer crimson silk outfits — identical in design but clinging differently to each body — were in complete disarray.
Low necklines had slipped, exposing the upper swells of their breasts and the faint bite marks and hickeys blooming across their skin. High slits revealed smooth thighs still glistening with sweat.
Faces were flushed deep red, breathing heavy and uneven. Sweat beaded on their necks and cleavage, and satisfied, almost dreamy smiles lingered on their lips.
It was painfully obvious something intensely intimate had just occurred inside the carriage. Their hair was slightly tousled, lips swollen, and the faint scent of sex clung to them despite the perfume they wore.
The crowd's reaction was immediate and electric when the final woman stepped out — Eiko, the wife of Lord Harada.
A collective gasp rippled through the commoners. Eyes widened in shock. Merchants dropped their goods. Mothers pulled children closer.
Young men and women exchanged stunned glances before the whispers began, spreading like wildfire through the kneeling crowd.
"Is that… Lady Eiko? Lord Harada's wife?"
"By the gods… she came out of the Daimyo's carriage with the others. Look at her clothes… the marks on her neck and chest…"
"The Daimyo must have taken her. He's claimed her completely. That's why she looks like that — flushed, marked, barely able to stand straight."
"But why? Lord Harada was always loyal… wasn't he?"
"Shh — maybe the rumors were true. Maybe he crossed the Daimyo somehow. Offering his own wife to save his neck… or his family's."
The whispers grew louder and more frantic among the common folk. A group of women near a lantern stall leaned close to each other, voices low but urgent.
"She's a noblewoman! How could she let this happen in public? Look at her thighs — those marks are fresh. The Daimyo must have used her on the way here."
"Poor Lord Harada… how will he ever show his face again? Everyone will know his wife belongs to the Daimyo now. He'll be a laughingstock… or worse."
A merchant shook his head in pity mixed with fear. "She must have had no choice. But still… to walk out like that, dressed like a concubine, with his marks all over her… It's humiliating for both of them."
Nobles, standing slightly apart in their reserved area, reacted with more controlled shock. They did not whisper aloud — they were far too disciplined for that — but their eyes betrayed everything. Several noblemen's jaws tightened. A few noblewomen's fans snapped open to hide their expressions. Internally, their thoughts raced:
So the rumors about Lord Harada were true… he funneled supplies to the rebels. This is how the Daimyo chose to punish him — by taking his wife publicly.
Lady Eiko… she looks destroyed. But she's standing there anyway. For the children, no doubt. A mother's sacrifice… how tragic and pathetic at the same time.
Harada will never recover from this. His name is finished. Better to stay silent and hope the Daimyo's wrath doesn't spread to the rest of us.
Eiko felt every single stare like a physical blow. Intense humiliation burned through her veins — hotter and more painful than anything the Daimyo had done to her body in the carriage.
Her face flushed darker than the marks on her skin. She could feel the sheer silk clinging to her sweat-dampened curves, the way her breasts moved with every shaky breath, the bite marks and hickeys on full display for hundreds of eyes.
The satisfied smiles on the other concubines only made it worse.
They all know, she thought, her stomach twisting. They know what he did to me. They know I let it happen. They know I'm no longer just Harada's wife… I'm the Daimyo's new plaything.
Her humiliation for herself was crushing, but the shame she felt for Harada was ten times worse. How will he live now? Tears stung the corners of her eyes, but she forced them back.
Everyone in the capital will whisper about him. They'll call him the man whose wife was taken and marked by the Daimyo in broad daylight. His reputation… his pride… it's all gone because of my actions.
Because of his mistake. How can he ever face these people again? How can he look our children in the eye knowing everyone believes their mother belongs to another man?
She kept her head high with whatever dignity she could muster, but inside she felt stripped bare.
The power and ambition the other concubines felt only deepened her isolation. Miko, Hana, and Yumi walked with subtle pride, enjoying the attention and the status it gave them. Eiko felt none of that — only crushing shame and the iron resolve that kept her moving
forward.
For the children, she reminded herself silently, each step toward the stage feeling heavier than the last. I will endure this humiliation. For them.
The Daimyo's deep voice cut through the square like thunder as he finally spoke.
"Rise."
Everyone stood. The whispers among the commoners died instantly, but the damage was done. The story of Lord Harada's wife emerging from the Daimyo's carriage — flushed, marked, and dressed like a concubine — would spread through the capital before the night was over.
The Daimyo's lips curved into a satisfied, arrogant smile. He enjoyed this — the absolute power, the fear mixed with forced adoration, and especially the visible proof of his dominance over one of his subjects' wives.
"We greet the Daimyo!" the nobles chorused.
The Daimyo's eyes swept over the crowd, lingering for a moment on the flushed concubines behind him — especially Eiko.
Dark amusement flickered in his gaze. Look at her — still grieving her husband in her heart, yet her body is marked by me and already learning pleasure from my women. Such delicious contradictions in a mother willing to sacrifice everything for her brats.
He turned back to the nobles. "I am pleased with the preparations. The glowing flowers, the lanterns, the decorations — truly beautiful. You have done well to honor this Festival of Eternal Loyalty."
The head noble bowed deeply. "We are grateful for your words, my lord."
The Daimyo's eyes swept the crowd once more. "I think it is time we move to the stage. The speech must begin so the true festival can commence."
With guards forming a protective circle around him, the Daimyo began ascending the wide stone stairs toward the elevated stage.
His concubines followed close behind — Eiko, Miko, Hana, and Yumi — their minimal silk outfits swaying with every step.
The sheer fabric did little to hide the marks on their bodies or the way their breasts moved with each breath. People in the crowd stole glances again, but none dared stare openly for long.
As they climbed, the concubines felt the weight of every eye. Even though the people had knelt for the Daimyo, a surge of pride and ambition bloomed in their chests.
Miko's lips curved into a small, secret smile. They all kneel because of our lord… but we stand beside him. We share his bed, his power.
Hana's eyes gleamed. Look at them staring at us. They fear and desire what we have.
Yumi walked taller. The new one — Eiko — she's learning fast. Soon she'll understand this feeling too.
Eiko kept her gaze forward, but her mind was a storm of humiliation and resolve. They all know now… and Harada will have to live with it. But I will protect our children. No matter the cost.
They reached the grand stage. The Daimyo stepped to the center, his voice booming across the square.
"Men, women, and children of my domain! I am glad you have gathered here to celebrate the Festival of Eternal Loyalty. You do not know how pleased and happy I am to see such devotion. This festival is not merely about lanterns and glowing flowers — it is about the bond between ruler and ruled. Loyalty is the foundation of our strength. Those who honor it will be rewarded. Those who betray it…"
He let the sentence hang, his eyes sweeping the crowd meaningfully. A subtle chill passed through some of the nobles.
The common people listened intently. A mother held her restless child close. "Shh, listen to the Daimyo. He protects us."
An old merchant nodded. "His words always carry weight. Better to stay loyal than end up like poor Lord Harada…"
On the stage, the Daimyo continued his speech. Near the edge of the noble seating area, one of his many sons lounged with Cha Hae-In stiffly on his lap. The son smirked at the stage.
"Look at Father up there. Everyone paying him respect… Someday I'll be in that exact position. Everyone will have to kneel before me too."
Cha Hae-In's face remained composed, but inside she seethed.
What an idiot. You're not even in the top five for succession. You fat, arrogant fool. His hand rested on her waist. She fought the urge to vomit. How did I end up here, forced to sit on this pig's lap?
A strange, heavy stillness suddenly fell over the guards and seasoned warriors. Their hands tightened on their weapons. Eyes scanned the crowd more sharply. It felt like the calm before a storm — as if something massive and violent was about to erupt.
The Daimyo's speech rolled on, but the air had changed. The glowing flowers still shone beautifully, the lanterns still swayed, yet beneath the festive surface, tension coiled like a serpent ready to strike.
The whispers about Eiko and Lord Harada had already begun spreading through the crowd like wildfire.
The night of loyalty had only just begun — and the cost of survival was becoming clearer with every passing moment.
