Chapter 82: A Special Someone
Knowing she wouldn't win the argument, Kieu Ly quickly changed the subject:
"Did your parents really bring you all the way here?"
"At first they didn't agree, but once they found out I wanted to come here to see you, they gave in immediately."
"Really?"
"If not, how else would I be here? Be my girlfriend, okay? When we get married later, my parents will be over the moon."
Kieu Ly burst out laughing at his boldness:
"How old are you again?"
"Including lunar age, I'm 18."
"Not even legally 18 and you're already talking about love and marriage?"
In truth, Kieu Ly was touched that he had traveled 9,000 kilometers just to see her. Not even grown adults in official relationships could always do something like that. Yet he had dared to. And he wasn't even legally an adult. But his reckless impulsiveness—what if, one day, things didn't go as he hoped? What if the only thing waiting for her was a cardboard box of regrets? Just thinking about it gave her chills.
She vaguely recalled the time back at the boarding house, watching Mai's relationship unfold, and had once firmly declared to herself that she would never fall for a younger guy. Yet now she was wavering again. She couldn't even imagine having to call some kid younger than her "honey." Just the thought made her shiver.
Whenever she brought up his age, Toan Phuong was at a loss for words. Meanwhile, Kieu Ly grew increasingly anxious, pacing back and forth, unable to figure out where she could send him for the night. Seeing this, Toan Phuong asked:
"Why are you pacing and sighing like that?"
"I don't know where you can stay tonight."
"I can just sleep here."
Hearing his casual tone made Kieu Ly fume. He might be fine with it, but she wasn't. Even a real boyfriend wouldn't be allowed to do that, let alone someone like him, who wasn't even in any kind of relationship with her. Besides, given how crazy he'd acted earlier—what if he suddenly snapped again in the middle of the night and tried to force himself on her? Heaven help her. Who knew what that little devil was capable of?
But then again, she really had no better option.
"Let me sleep here. I promise I won't do anything."
Looking at his pitiful face, Kieu Ly softened a little. She sat down on the bed, defeated, and said:
"Fine. You can sleep here tonight."
Her room only had one blanket. She couldn't very well let him curl up on the cold floor with no bedding. She found a bolster pillow and placed it in the middle of the bed to act as a barrier. However, the bed was small, and with the pillow in the middle, there really wasn't enough space for two people to lie down comfortably.
