Chapter LXVIII: The Blonde Bother Part 2

The soft glow of his phone casts a warm light in Kota's dimly lit room. His thumb swipes through the digital chatter of their group chat, the messages scrolling by in a blur. Suddenly, amidst the flurry of texts, Eloise's message stands out like a beacon in the darkness.

"Hey, Kota! Fancy a post-school hangout? I'm treating!" (Eloise)

Kota blinks in surprise, the unexpected invitation catching him off guard. Eloise, who has just finished powdering her face with such white and smooth powder and makeup, has just thrown a curveball into their group chat, and Kota isn't quite sure how to respond. He ponders her offer for a moment, weighing the potential excitement against the possibility of unintended consequences.

"Hang out? With you? What's the catch?" (Kota)

"No catch, just good old-fashioned fun! Besides, it's my treat, so you can't say no." (Eloise)

Kota's eyebrows shoot up in disbelief. Eloise's antics are legendary, and the thought of a free coffee and cake date with her is both exhilarating and daunting. He wonders what kind of mischief she has in store for him this time, but the prospect of a spontaneous adventure is undeniably tempting.

Gin, on the other hand, and who just came from a bike race in Nagoya, remains conspicuously silent for now, his thoughts a mystery to Kota. Despite his lack of response, Kota can almost hear Gin's voice in his head, urging him to seize the opportunity for a bit of excitement and camaraderie.

"Alright, Eloise. You've twisted my arm. I'm in. But if this turns out to be some elaborate prank, I'm blaming you!" (Kota)

"Haha, you won't regret it, I promise! See you after school, Kota!" (Eloise)

With a mixture of excitement and trepidation, Kota sets his phone aside and flops back onto his bed. His mind races with anticipation, imagining the adventures that await him after school. He can't help but wonder what Eloise has planned and what kind of mischief they'll get into together.

As the final bell rings, signaling the end of the school day, Kota finds himself swept up in a whirlwind of activity. With a sense of adventure coursing through his veins, he makes his way to the designated meeting spot, his heart pounding with anticipation. He can't shake the feeling of butterflies in his stomach as he imagines the possibilities that await him.

As he catches sight of Eloise waiting for him, a mischievous twinkle in her eye, Kota can't help but grin. Whatever this hangout has in store for him, one thing is for certain: it's bound to be a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. With a deep breath and a sense of determination, Kota braces himself for whatever madness lies ahead, ready to dive headfirst into the whirlwind of chaos that's sure to follow. After all, when life hands you free food and wild adventures, who is he to say no?

Meanwhile, in another corner of the digital realm, Gin's message pings on Kota's phone, interrupting his reverie.

"Yo, Kota! How's it going?" (Gin)

"Hey, Gin! All good here. Just got invited for a hangout by Eloise" (Kota)

Gin's reply comes swiftly, his words brimming with his usual enthusiasm.

"Nice! Have fun, man. By the way, have you seen this hilarious meme? It's got me thinking about the meaning of life and all that philosophical stuff" (Gin)

Kota chuckles at Gin's mention of memes and philosophy, a combination that never fails to amuse him.

"Haha, classic Gin! Yeah, I've seen it. Deep stuff, right?" (Kota)

As they delve deeper into their conversation, Gin's mind wanders to Eloise, prompting him to inquire about her.

"Speaking of philosophy, how's Eloise doing? Haven't heard much from her lately" (Gin)

"Wait, how did we even got to that?" (Kota)

"Come on man, something came up to my mind and she came in" (Gin)

"That doesn't even make sense haha" (Kota)

"I know, but for now, let's talk about her" (Gin)

Kota's response is quick, his fingers tapping out a reply as he recalls his recent interactions with the lively exchange student.

"She's doing great, actually. Really good listener, too. We've been chatting about all sorts of stuff" (Kota)

Gin's next message carries a note of caution, his concern for his friend evident in his words.

"Just be careful, Kota. You know how Eloise can be. She's got a knack for getting people into trouble" (Gin)

Kota's reply is lighthearted, his trust in Eloise unwavering despite Gin's warning.

"Don't worry, Gin. I can handle myself. Plus, what's life without a little adventure, right?" (Kota)

"Yeah but the roundabout's still big enough" (Gin)

"Are you really sure he is a troublemaker?" (Kota)

"Well, I've seen reports like from Tengen who got tricked into a coffeeshop which turned out to be a flower shop" (Gin)

"Now, didn't that end well?" (Kota)

"So yeah, please be careful of who you are with, Kota" (Gin)

"Don't worry, I still have myself bro" (Kota)

With their conversation winding down, Kota pockets his phone and returns his focus to the imminent hangout with Eloise. Little does he know, the events that lie ahead will test his friendships, challenge his perceptions, and ultimately lead him down a path of self-discovery unlike any other.

The soft glow of the screen illuminates Akiko's darkened room as she sits cross-legged on her bed, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she types out a message to Kota on YourBook. She waits anxiously for his response, her heart racing with anticipation.

But as the minutes tick by, there's no reply from Kota, no sign that he's seen her message. Frowning, Akiko refreshes the page, her eyes scanning the screen for any indication that he's online. But still, there's nothing.

Confusion turns to frustration, and frustration to despair, as Akiko's mind races with a thousand questions. Why isn't he responding? Did I say something wrong? Has he lost interest in me?

Tears well up in Akiko's eyes as she curls up on her bed, her heart heavy with uncertainty. She feels a pang of loneliness, a sense of disconnect that cuts deep into her soul.

"Why?" she whispers to herself, her voice choked with emotion.

"Why won't he talk to me?"

As her tears spill onto the pillow, Akiko's thoughts are interrupted by the sound of her bedroom door creaking open. She looks up to see her brother standing in the doorway, concern etched on his face.

"Akiko? What's wrong?" he asks, his voice gentle with concern.

Akiko sniffles, wiping away her tears as she tries to compose herself.

"It's nothing, just... Kota hasn't responded to my messages, and I don't know why," she admits, her voice trembling with emotion.

Her brother's expression softens as he crosses the room to sit beside her on the bed.

"Hey, don't worry about it. Maybe he's just busy with something," he reassures her, his hand resting comfortingly on her shoulder.

Akiko nods, a glimmer of hope flickering in her eyes.

"You think so?" she asks, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

"Of course. Kota cares about you, Akiko. I'm sure he'll get back to you as soon as he can," her brother replies, offering her a reassuring smile.

Feeling a bit lighter, Akiko manages a small smile in return.

"Thanks, big brother. I needed to hear that," she says, gratitude swelling in her chest.

Her brother returns her smile, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Now, how about we turn those tears into smiles with an Ice Cream Float?" he suggests, his voice filled with enthusiasm.

Akiko's face lights up with excitement at the suggestion, her earlier worries momentarily forgotten. "That sounds amazing! Let's do it," she exclaims, eager to indulge in a sweet treat with her brother by her side.

Together, they make their way to the kitchen, laughter echoing through the house as they prepare their favorite dessert. And as they sit together at the kitchen table, savoring each spoonful of creamy goodness, Akiko's heart feels a little lighter, her worries pushed aside by the love and support of her family.
