Chapter 138 - Chapter 138: Spiders, the Difficulties of Gamma Cells

The underground laboratory glowed faintly under the pale light of dozens of monitors. Nathan sat in front of his computer, flipping through a folder of old sketches. They were drawings he had made in his spare time—little doodles inspired by his fondness for unique characters. Among them was one he particularly liked: a pink-and-white spider, round, adorable, with big blinking eyes.

He glanced from the paper to the creature in front of him. The resemblance was uncanny.

The small Spider-Man—who had once looked dangerous and demonic—now stood proudly in the middle of the lab, his body reshaped into something shockingly cute. Pink patterns swirled across his soft white carapace, and his large eyes gleamed with almost childlike innocence.

Nathan rubbed his temples. "Don't tell me… you turned into this because you saw these paintings?"

The little Spider-Man bobbed his head up and down like a chicken pecking rice, a bright grin spreading across his face. He twirled in a circle, showing off his new form as if it were a fashion statement, long ears swaying happily. The sheer pride in his movements made him look like a performer basking in applause.

Nathan's mouth twitched. "Unbelievable."

And then, something even more unexpected happened.

The small Spider-Man stammered in a soft, childish voice: "But… I…"

Nathan's eyes widened, staring at him. "You can… talk?"

Until now, the creature had only produced strange chants—mystical syllables tied to its powers. Nathan had assumed it was simply intelligent in a non-human way. But this? This was coherent speech.

He leaned closer, astonished. "Say that again. You can actually speak like a human?"

The little Spider-Man nodded eagerly. His words were halting and broken, but clear enough: "I can… speak… a little. Not… very good."

Nathan blinked in disbelief before a grin tugged at his lips. This was progress—real progress. Communication had always been a limitation with the creature. Before, he relied on gestures, written symbols, or intuition. Now, with spoken words, an entire world of understanding opened.

"Excellent," Nathan said, his voice warm with approval. "Keep practicing. If you can talk more fluently, our work together will be much easier."

The little Spider-Man's eyes shone. He thumped his chest proudly. "I… will work hard! I won't… bring shame… to Boss!"

Though he stuttered, the determination in his gaze burned with fire. He looked like a soldier swearing allegiance.

Nathan chuckled, nodding. For all his cuteness, he's as disciplined as any warrior.

Ambition of the Little Spider

As Nathan studied him, he couldn't ignore the immense potential radiating from this semi-demonic form. The creature had integrated with the essence of a primordial beast—an entity whose power could rival ancient monsters. That bond had not only altered his form, it had raised his ceiling infinitely higher.

"You're ambitious," Nathan murmured. "Good. That drive will take you far."

He asked, "How many demon secrets do you hold now?"

The little Spider-Man lowered his head, thinking carefully, then answered, "Not… many. Only… a dozen."

Nathan frowned. "And how will you grow stronger from here?"

The reply came slowly, but with conviction. "Practice. Cultivate… demonic power. Strengthen… myself."

Nathan crossed his arms. "By cultivating demonic power… do you mean being influenced by it?"

The small spider shook his head frantically. "No! I… won't be controlled. Not… like that."

Relief washed over Nathan. "Good."

He paused, then asked, "Have you ever heard of the Dark God Book?"

The little Spider-Man tilted his head. "No… what's that?"

Nathan didn't elaborate further. He had considered using the Dark God Book to accelerate the creature's growth, but the artifact carried corrupting influences. Whether those same dangers would affect a half-demon like Spider-Man was unknown. For now, better to avoid needless risks.

"Forget it," Nathan said at last. "We'll focus on stable growth."

The creature nodded obediently.

The Beast's Slumber

"By the way," Nathan asked, "what happened to the beast inside you?"

He knew that the primordial demon had burned through immense reserves of power during the fusion. Reports suggested it would fall into a deep sleep, slowly recovering vitality before awakening again.

The little Spider-Man's voice grew soft. "It… sleeps now. Cannot… wake up yet."

Nathan's eyes sharpened with thought. "Then you'll need to rely on your own training for a while. Work hard. Build strength. Prepare for the future."

The creature nodded with determination. "Yes… Boss."

For Nathan, this was reassuring. With Spider-Man now capable of magic and demonic arts, he filled a gap in Nathan's arsenal. He wasn't just a fighter anymore—he was a magical asset, a companion who could adapt where Nathan himself had limitations.

Turning to Gamma

With that matter settled, Nathan turned back to his main focus: gamma energy.

Stacks of research data filled his desk. For weeks, he had been dissecting specimens, testing theories, and running simulations. His goal was nothing less than to rewrite the limits of the human body.

"The final hurdles…" he muttered, scanning a series of glowing equations on his monitor. "If I can solve these last few problems, I can master it completely."

He envisioned it clearly: a body capable of housing gamma energy without transforming into a raging monster. A body that retained its humanity while harnessing the explosive might of the Hulk.

True metamorphosis. True super-strength.

The laboratory came alive with his motion. Nathan darted back and forth, working at multiple stations in rapid succession. His movements were so fast that afterimages lingered behind him, as though several Nathans were operating at once.

One side of the lab was dedicated to dissecting remains of the Abomination, analyzing the unstable mutations caused by gamma exposure. Another side housed cell cultures under glowing microscopes, where Nathan tested compatibility between ordinary human tissue and altered gamma cells.

"Ordinary cells must tolerate both stability and explosiveness," he whispered to himself. "They must hold gamma energy without mutating into monsters."

Each equation brought new insights, but also new obstacles. Gamma power was raw, violent, chaotic. It granted limitless strength, yes—but at the cost of sanity and form. To tame it meant creating a bridge between two opposing natures: human calm and gamma fury.

Nathan's brow furrowed as he jotted down calculations, tested formulas, discarded failures, and rebuilt hypotheses. Sweat beaded his forehead, but his eyes blazed with obsession.

A Glimpse of the Future

On the sidelines, the little Spider-Man sat cross-legged, practicing speech while occasionally sneaking curious glances at his master. His stammered words filled the air, mingling oddly with the hum of machinery.

Nathan barely noticed. His mind was locked in the puzzle of gamma.

If I succeed, I'll have the strength of Hulk without the curse. If I fail… I'll tear myself apart from the inside out.

The stakes were monumental. But Nathan thrived under pressure.

Hours slipped into days, and still he worked, driven by the same relentless ambition that had carried him this far.

The Weight of Change

What Nathan didn't realize was that every breakthrough, every mutation, every decision he made was shifting the balance of the world. Already, Iron Man's determination to build nano-armor had been accelerated by his presence. The Avengers were more vigilant than ever, convinced an evil god had targeted Earth.

And here, in this hidden laboratory, Nathan was pushing humanity toward a new frontier of power.

A storm was brewing in history, and Nathan stood at its center, shaping it with every choice.
