"you...you are still here?" Alana's voice came out higher than she'd meant; surprise and a flash of irritation made it squeak. She blinked, forcing her composure back into place. "Just now you were nowhere to be seen?" The words spilled out before she could soften them, and Cassian only smiled, unruffled.
"Don't worry, people see me when I want them to." He said it like a fact, the kind a man who always gets what he wants would say: casual, confident, a little predatory. He took a deliberate step forward, closing the small distance between them as if the space itself belonged to him.
The corridor outside the canteen had only the two of them now, with all the students either in classes or done with their lunch.
