The rooftop overlooked Metropolis like a throne overlooking a kingdom. The city sprawled beneath them, lights twinkling, rivers reflecting the moon, bridges connecting islands of civilization into a single glowing tapestry. It was beautiful. It was everything Clark had fought to protect. And somewhere down there, in the maze of streets and buildings, the people who called this place home slept peacefully, unaware of how close they had come to losing their guardian.

Kara leaned against the edge, her elbows on the railing, her chin resting on her hands. The wind caught her hair, blonde strands dancing across her face.

"I know you've been getting thanked left and right," she said quietly. "And it may be exhausting already. But... I want you to know that what you did back there... waking me up, keeping me focused, helping Kal-El..." She turned her head slightly, just enough to see him out of the corner of her eye. "It's something I'll never forget."

Jason joined her at the railing. He didn't speak. Didn't try to fill the silence with words that would only cheapen the moment. He just stood beside her, close enough to feel the warmth radiating from her skin, and looked out at the city she had claimed as her own.

"You know..." Kara laughed softly, shaking her head. "Wow. I'm kinda stupid, you know?"

"I don't think so."

"No, like, seriously." She turned to face him fully now, her expression caught somewhere between embarrassment and honesty. "I came here to protect my cousin. And yet, I found him with a family, friends, raised well... older than me." Her voice dropped. "I felt... without a purpose. I came here to protect my cousin, and here he is—Earth's mightiest hero. Much more mature than me. Much smarter. Much stronger."

She looked down at her hands.

"I went and drowned myself in alcohol. Partying. Doing whatever I could to not feel useless." A pause. "I even picked up a costume. Wanted to be like him."

Jason listened. He didn't interrupt, didn't offer platitudes, didn't try to fix something that wasn't broken. He just listened.

"Then I met you." Kara's voice softened. "The first person who seemed different from the others. Someone I could feel free around. With you, I felt powerful." She met his eyes. "You trained me. Treated me right. You never cared if I was Kal's cousin or not. You just liked me for me."

"How can I not?" Jason said quietly. "You're special."

Kara laughed—a real laugh, bright and warm. "Guess I am. But not in the good way." She bumped her shoulder against his. "Haha."

"No." Jason turned to face her, his expression serious. "No. You are. You had no obligation to become a hero. No reason to help people. And yet, you do. Kal-El was raised by his parents to be responsible with his powers, so he chose to protect people. Batman had his parents murdered in front of him, and he wanted that to never happen to anyone else. Wonder Woman was born to a god, prophesied to be a hero." He smiled. "You had no reason. And yet, you chose that."

He looked at her—really looked, the way he rarely looked at anyone.

"In a way, you remind me of me."

Kara's cheeks flushed. She turned back to the city, suddenly unable to hold his gaze. "You really think I'm like you?"

"Of course." Jason's voice carried that familiar edge of dry humor. "You may not be as beautiful, or as rich, or have a harem of beauties like me..." He paused, letting the words hang. "But you're the closest to me out of everyone I know."

Kara laughed and punched his arm—playful, light, the kind of hit that would have shattered concrete if she hadn't been holding back. "Shut up! The harem thing was my idea anyway! I was the one who told you it was natural!"

"Nah, you don't get to claim that. I already had two girls by then."

"HAHA! Guess so..."

The laughter faded. The moment settled back into something softer, more fragile. Kara looked out at the city again, her expression distant.

"Sorry about before," she said quietly. "When I left you in anger."

"Hmm?"

"You know..." She nudged him, but he only looked confused. "Don't make me say it!" Still nothing. "You idiot. I mean on the War World. When you had sex with Diana and the other girls."

"Oh. That." Jason shrugged. "Why would you feel sorry for that? It's within your right to not want to be part of that."

Kara was quiet for a long moment. The wind blew. The city hummed below them.

"I guess..." She bit her lip. "I more feel sorry for myself. Deep down... I really wanted to. I truly liked you. But I just didn't know how to say it." Her voice dropped to barely a whisper. "I didn't want people to see me and say Superman's cousin is just another side piece of Jason."

Jason smiled. He lifted his arm and draped it across her shoulders, pulling her close.

"You know I'd never treat you like that."

Kara leaned into him, her head resting against his chest. "I know. I just... you know..." She sighed. "Just me being an overthinking fool."

"Is that so?" Jason's hand rubbed her shoulder gently. "Well, if you want to know... I overthink things too. Like now."

Kara pulled back just enough to look at him, disbelief written across her face. "What? You? No way." She laughed. "What are you overthinking about, anyway?"

"You."

Her laugh caught in her throat.

"I don't know if this is the right moment to tell you that I kinda want you in my harem." Jason's voice was steady, but there was something vulnerable beneath it—something he rarely let anyone see. "Because I truly do love and care about you. But at the same time, I fear rejection. You're the only one who has rejected me multiple times, you know."

Kara's eyes widened. Her lips parted. For a moment, she just stared at him, processing his words like they were written in a language she barely understood.

"Really?" she breathed. "You... overthinking about me?"

"Yeah." Jason almost laughed. "Don't act surprised. You're a beautiful woman that I desire. Of course I'd overthink about you."

Kara stared at him for another heartbeat. Then she smiled—wide and bright and full of something that had been hiding for too long.

"Oh, you silly fool." She rose onto her toes, her hands finding his chest for balance. "I love you."

She leaned in.

Jason closed his eyes.

Their lips met under the moonlight, soft and warm and perfect. The city sparkled below them, oblivious to the small moment of happiness happening above its streets. The wind held its breath. The stars seemed to shine just a little brighter.

It was beautiful.

It lasted exactly three seconds.

The blast of red heat struck them from above—a concentrated beam of impossible power that caught them both in the chest and sent them flying. The rooftop exploded behind them. Glass shattered. Steel buckled. Jason and Kara crashed through the building's upper floors, through walls and offices and furniture, before tumbling out the other side and plummeting toward the street below.

They hit the pavement hard. Concrete cracked beneath them. Jason's ears rang. His vision blurred. Beside him, Kara groaned, pushing herself up on shaking arms.

Above them, silhouetted against the moon, a figure descended.

He was Superman.

Or someone who looked just like him.

The same build. The same cape. The same S-shield emblazoned across his chest. But everything else was wrong. His suit was charred, burned black in places, as if he had walked through fire and emerged on the other side. The S was still visible—but it was blood red now, the color of fresh wounds and old hatred. His cape flowed behind him, also deep red, like a trail of dried blood. His eyes glowed with the same crimson heat that had just torn through a building and sent two of the strongest beings on the planet crashing to the ground.

And his face.

His face was Clark's. But twisted. Angry. Full of a hatred that had no place in those features.

He landed on the street between Jason and Kara, his boots cracking the asphalt. His fists clenched at his sides. His eyes—still glowing, still burning—swept from one to the other, lingering on Kara with something that might have been disgust.

"No," Kara whispered, scrambling backward. "No, that's not..that's not possible."

The figure said nothing. His gaze shifted to Jason.

"I am The Last Sun..Kill-All...Jason Anderson...I shall burn you to death"
