Chapter 196 - Azi Dahka

Vritra knew.

She had known the moment Azi Dahaka descended from the darkened sky. The weight of his presence pressed down on her like a physical force, crushing, suffocating, absolute. He was not like Albion. He was not like Yinglong. He was something else entirely...a being born from the dungeon itself, a creature of pure chaos and destruction.

She knew there was no hope of winning this battle.

But what choice did she have? For her Lord, for the Shadow Monarch who had given her freedom, for the city that had given her purpose....she had to face him.

She rose to her feet, her body aching, her power spent. But she did not falter.

"Everyone," she said, her voice steady. "We fight together."

Alcy stepped up beside her, her massive sword raised. Igris emerged from the shadows, his greatsword gleaming. Diana and Adonis flanked them, their forms flickering with dark energy. Baal's single eye blazed with crimson fire.

They attacked as one.

The Black Dragon watched them come, his single eye gleaming with amusement. He did not move. He did not prepare. He simply waited.

Igris struck first.

His greatsword carved toward the dragon's leg. The blade connected—and skidded off. The scales did not even scratch. Igris's eyes widened, the first hint of surprise crossing his usually stoic features.

Baal's eye erupted with crimson energy, a beam of destruction aimed directly at Azi Dahaka's chest. The attack struck....and dissipated against his scales like water against stone.

Diana and Adonis attacked from opposite sides. Diana's scimitar slashed across his flank. Adonis's fists drove into his joints. Neither attack left a mark.

Azi Dahaka laughed.

"Is that all?" His voice rumbled like thunder. "You disappoint me."

His tail swept across the battlefield, sending all four shadows flying. They crashed into the rubble, their forms flickering, struggling to reform.

Alcy charged.

Her sword swung toward his neck, her strength amplified by the power of Atlas. The blade connected—and stopped. She had managed to penetrate a single centimeter of his flesh before the force of the impact sent her flying backward.

Azi Dahaka reached out and grabbed her before she could land.

He held her in his massive claws, his single eye fixed on her struggling form. "You are strong, little demigod. But you are not strong enough."

Vritra attacked.

Her Dragon Aura form surged forward, her massive body slamming into Azi Dahaka's side. The impact sent them both crashing through the ruined city, their forms tearing through stone and rubble.

She wrestled with him, her claws raking across his scales, her flames burning against his flesh. But he was stronger. So much stronger.

He grabbed her by the neck and lifted her into the air. She struggled, her claws scratching uselessly against his grip. He flew higher, dragging her with him, and then he slammed her down.

The impact shattered the ground beneath her. Cracks spiderwebbed across the stone, and Vritra's form flickered, nearly breaking apart.

Azi Dahaka stood over her, his single eye gleaming.

"I wish you were in your real form," he said, his voice almost wistful. "I would have enjoyed crushing you properly."

Vritra laughed, a broken, desperate sound. "If I were in my real form, you would be begging for mercy."

Azi Dahaka scoffed. "Delusions, even in death." He released her, leaving her crumpled on the ground. "But I have no time for you. You are no longer a threat."

He turned away from her, his massive form moving toward the city walls. He unleashed a massive ball of fire, the attack striking the already damaged wall and carving a second hole through it.

The defenders screamed as the flames consumed them.

Azi Dahaka turned his attention to the shadows.

Five hundred of them surrounded him..monsters of every kind, creatures from the deepest floors of the dungeon. They attacked in waves, their claws and teeth and magic striking at him from every angle.

He laughed.

"You think these pathetic creatures can harm me?" His voice echoed across the battlefield. "The dungeon is my playground. I was born in its depths. I am its master. And you dare to face me?"

He crushed them.

His claws tore through their ranks. His flames consumed their forms. His tail swept through their numbers, scattering them like leaves in a storm. Igris, Diana, Adonis, and Baal tried their best, but they could not even touch him.

They fell one by one.

Azi Dahaka stood in the center of the carnage, his single eye gleaming with triumph.

Alcy rose.

Her body was broken, her strength nearly spent. But she forced herself to her feet, her massive sword raised. She activated the power of Atlas once more, the golden light surrounding her.

"I will not..." she gasped, "...let you..."

She charged.

Her sword swung toward his neck, the power of the titan behind it. The blade connected—and for a moment, it seemed like she might succeed. The tip pierced his scales, penetrating a centimeter into his flesh.

Then he grabbed her.

He held her in his massive claws, his single eye fixed on her struggling form. She could not move. Could not escape. He brought her toward his mouth, his jaws opening wide.

"Thank you for the meal...." he said.

He sensed it.

Something had changed. The air shifted. The shadows deepened. A presence emerged from the darkness, a power unlike anything he had felt before.

He kept Alcy in his mouth as he crashed through a third wall, his massive form rising into the air. He turned his single eye toward the ground, toward the gate that was opening.

A figure emerged from the gate....With others following behind.

Azi Dahaka smiled.

"Ahhh... so..." His voice was almost reverent. "You are the Shadow Monarch."
