Azi Dahaka rose from the wreckage of his dragon form, his new body flexing as he adjusted to its limitations. He was humanoid now...tall, lean, and coiled with dangerous muscle. His dark black hair fell across his scarred eye, the old wound still visible, still fresh. His other eye was a pitch-black abyss, a yellow slit for a pupil that locked onto Ais with predatory focus.
His body was covered in a natural armor...dark scales that grew from his skin, forming pointed ridges at his shoulders, knees, and elbows. A dark purple gem, the size of a man's arm, pulsed in the center of his chest, glowing with latent power. His skin was dark, almost ashen, and his claws extended from his fingertips like blades.
He flexed his hands, testing the form. A snarl twisted his lips.
"I hate this form," he said, his voice a low growl. "It is wrong. It is pathetic. It is human."
His yellow slit locked onto Ais.
"But I will still kill you...."
Ais raised her sword, her wings flaring behind her. The dark purple energy of Avenger coiled around her blade, and her mother's wind still swirled at her command. She had waited her entire life for this moment.
She charged.
Her blade carved a path through the air, the Wind of her mother guiding her strike. Azi Dahaka sidestepped, his claws raking toward her side. She twisted, deflecting the blow with her sword, the impact sending sparks across the battlefield.
"You fight like your father," he said, his voice dripping with contempt. "Strong, but predictable."
He lunged, his claws driving toward her chest. She parried, spinning away, but his speed was overwhelming. He appeared beside her, his knee driving into her stomach.
She gasped, the air knocked from her lungs. She stumbled back, but she did not fall.
"Your parents' wind was only able to do that much," he mocked, pressing his advantage. "And now that it is gone, you are easy to kill."
His claws slashed toward her throat.
She blocked, barely. The impact sent her skidding backward, her boots carving trenches in the ground.
"You are nothing without them," he hissed. "You always have been."
Ais gritted her teeth. She was holding on, but barely. He was faster than her, stronger than her. Every strike pushed her back, every blow chipped away at her defenses.
But she did not give up.
She could not.
Shadows slashed across Azi Dahaka's back.
He spun, his claws raised, but Damien was already there. His body was burnt, his armor cracked, his skin still smoking from the plasma blast. But he was alive. And he was furious.
"Sorry I'm late," Damien said, his voice rough. "Had to recover from nearly dying."
Azi Dahaka's eyes narrowed. "You should have stayed dead."
Damien smiled. "I don't do that."
Claws grew from his hands...Nyx and Nótt transforming into extensions of his will. The Shadow Armor form took over, darker and stronger than before. He had mastery of the shadows now, and he was ready to prove it.
He lunged.
Claw met claw. Speed met speed. Strength met strength. They were equal in every way, their blows shaking the ground beneath them.
Damien's claws carved across Azi Dahaka's chest. The dragon's claws raked across Damien's shoulder. They broke apart, circling each other, their eyes locked.
"You are skilled," Damien admitted. "But you have no technique."
Azi Dahaka's eyes widened. "What?"
"You were born strong," Damien continued, his voice calm. "You never had to struggle. Never had to learn. You just relied on your power."
He lunged again, his claws driving toward Azi Dahaka's throat. The dragon blocked, but Damien was already moving, his strikes flowing into one another.
"You are insecure," Damien said, his voice taunting. "A fake dragon. Born as a monster of the dungeon. You hate the gods, but you serve the primordial god like a loyal pet.....And look at you now...A mere man"
Azi Dahaka's face twisted with rage. "SHUT UP! DAMN YOU DIE!"
His chest gem pulsed. Purple plasma erupted from it, a blast of pure destruction aimed directly at Damien. The force of it knocked the dragon backward, his control slipping.
The blast hit Damien head-on. He was thrown back, his armor cracking, his body screaming in protest. But he did not fall.
He had bought Ais the opening she needed.
Ais descended from the skies.
Her sword was raised, the power of Avenger blazing along its edge. Her mother's wind swirled around her, guiding her strike. Her father's skill flowed through her veins, honed by years of training and battle.
This was the moment she had waited for her entire life.
"Wallenstein's Judgment."
The attack connected all of her family...the wind of her mother, the sword skill of her father, and the vengeance of her own heart. Her sword drove toward Azi Dahaka's head.
He saw it coming.
He raised his claws to block.
But the sword cut through them like butter. It carved through his scales, through his skin, through his bone. The blade connected with his neck, and for a moment, it hesitated.
Then it sliced through.
Azi Dahaka's head separated from his body.
It fell to the ground, his yellow slit eye widening in shock. His body crumpled beside it, the dark purple gem in his chest flickering and fading.
Ais landed on the ground, her sword still raised. She stared at the body of the One-Eyed Black Dragon, her chest heaving, her eyes burning.
She had done it.
Her entire life's purpose had been achieved.
She lowered her sword, her wings folding against her back. The dark purple energy of Avenger faded, replaced by her normal golden aura.
She turned to look at Damien.
He was standing, his body battered, his armor cracked, but alive. He smiled at her, a tired, genuine smile.
"Good job," he said.
Ais nodded. Tears streamed down her face, but she was smiling too.
Damien walked toward her, his hand resting on her shoulder. "You earned this...."
Ais looked back at the body of the One-Eyed Black Dragon. The monster that had haunted her dreams, her nightmares, her entire existence.
Then she broke...Crying hard, screaming, weeping, all that pent up sadness was unleashed....But at least, the man she loved was there to hug her...to share her pain
