Shin stood on top of Ezra's body still frozen. His eyes remained fixated on her. He took a hesitant step back while still fixated on her.
Before he could take another step back, Ezra's body began to glow in the same golden light that had made her into the angelic nightmare.
Bits of her body began floating into the air like fireflies in the summer.
"Marrow. Marrow. Where are you?" Ezra called out.
Shin freezes and turns to look behind himself. A few feet away a little demon girl resembling Ezra was bawling her eyes out calling for Marrow.
Shin tries to reach out to Ezra but Marrow walks out of a golden door. Shin pulls his hand back and stares at the two.
Marrow reaches Ezra and squats down to look at her.
"I'm so sorry I failed you!" Ezra cried out over and over.
Marrow looked at Ezra and smiled as he pulled her in for a hug. Ezra cried out even louder as Marrow held her tight.
Shin felt a tear flow off his face and quickly wiped it away.
"You didn't fail me, I failed you," Marrow said clutching her harder.
Shin tried to walk up to them but a huge tornado of darkness formed around them and took Ezra with it.
Marrow stood up and glanced at Shin.
"I can't follow her into the afterlife cause I haven't died yet. So pray you die before I get my hands on you," Marrow said staring intently at Shin.
Marrow turned and walked away along with the void. Shin stares into the distant before looking down a few feet away from him.
Ezra's frail body and detached head stood as a remind to what Shin had decided to do. He walked over to it and grabbed her hands.
Bael and Satel finally reached them and Satel threw herself at her father. She flipped him over and listened for his feint heart beat.
She let out a sigh of relief and quickly bandaged her father using her clothes. Bael glanced at Shin and saw him on his knees near Ezra's corpse.
"Hey Satel, I'll go check up on Shin real quick," Bael said as he jogged over to Shin.
He stopped and stood over him as he sobbed while clutching her crumbling hands.
Bael squatted as he watched Ezra's body finally crumble into nothing but dust.
"She didn't want to do all of this. It wasn't her fault and now she's dead," Shin said in between sobs.
Bael patted him on the shoulder and got his feet. He dragged Shin up and pulled him into a hug.
"I had to do it, even though I couldn't control myself I had to do it," Shin murmured loud enough for Bael to hear.
Bael pulled out of the hug and both of them turned face Satel and the now conscious Yama.
"I know it's hard to live with this but you did what was right, " Bael said consoling Shin.
Shin glanced at Bael then turned to stare at Satel and Yama as they embraced.
"Now ask yourself, was it worth it?" Bael asked as he patted Shin on the back and walked away.
Shin stood frozen staring at all of them from afar.
Yeah,.... it was worth it
Shin wiped away his tears and walked over to them, the memory of Ezra's last moments still etched in his memory.
