The day had been perfect. Almost too perfect.
By the time I stepped out of the conference room, the weight I'd carried on my shoulders for months felt lighter than air. The merger had finally gone through, clean, complete, and without the bloodbath of board politics I'd prepared myself for. My name had been on every congratulatory email, every phone call, every handshake. Justin shawn, the man who pulled it off.
But none of that mattered as much as the thought of going home to Elena.
I loosened my tie as I stepped into my office, letting out a long breath I hadn't realized I was holding. The late afternoon sunlight streamed through the tall glass windows, painting the room in gold. It was one of those rare quiet moments that felt suspended between success and peace.
For once, I didn't want to think about contracts or projections. I just wanted to see her again and celebrate this victory alone in our own way.
