The crowd around the stall was still buzzing with excitement. People were laughing, cheering, mocking Enel's failed attacks. The sky was still dark, but the fear was gone.
Mira, who had been watching the chaos with wide eyes, suddenly spotted something on the ground near the warehouse. She tilted her head.
"What's that?"
She walked over and picked it up. It was a small, sleek object—metallic, with a handle and a trigger. It looked like a toy gun.
"Ooh!" Mira's eyes lit up. "A gun! I didn't know we had one of these!"
She pointed it at the sky and pulled the trigger, remembering the gangster stories Takuya had told her while she pleased him—the ones where cops shot fires in the air to announce their presence and attract the attention of villains. She wanted to recreate it.
A bright red flare shot upward, arcing high above the clouds before exploding in a shower of crimson sparks.
Mira laughed. "Cool! It's like fireworks!"
Nami's head snapped up. "Mira, what did you just—"
The words died in her throat.
A sound echoed across the sky. Low at first, then growing louder. A mechanical hum, like engines.
Nami looked up. Her eyes widened.
Something was flying above them. A loud deafening sound spread around the island, as some kind of huge object flew over them covered by the cloud. All of a sudden a massive object, descending through the clouds. It wasn't a bird. It wasn't a ship. It was... something else.
A box. Large and metallic, suspended by a parachute that billowed in the wind. It drifted slowly downward, rocking gently as it descended attracting the attention of every single person around.
It landed with a soft thud right in front of the stall, exactly where Mira had fired the flare. Red smoke started coming out of the top of the drop.
The crowd went silent.
Mira stared at the box. Then at the flare gun in her hand. Then back at the box.
"Did I do that? Is this gun a genie? Did this come out of this gun?"
No one answered.
She walked toward the crate, her head tilted, curiosity written all over her face. "What's inside?"
She reached for the latch and flipped it open.
Inside were several bundles, each wrapped neatly with a name tag. Nami stepped forward, her heart pounding.
"What is this?" she muttered.
She picked up the first bundle. Her name was on it. She unwrapped it, revealing a sleek black suit—flexible, lightweight, and form-fitting in a way that made her pause.
The material was smooth, almost silky, with subtle contours that seemed designed to accentuate every curve. It was practical. It was also, unmistakably, Takuya's taste.
She held it up, her eyebrow rising.
'Of course. Of course he'd make it like this.'
She unfolded the note attached.
'"Not made of condoms. I promise. Although it could be, if I wanted to see you like that. Depends on how much you trust me, Tangerine. Also, that's your new name now. I'm not calling you darling or love—I'm calling you Tangerine."'
Nami blinked. Then a short, surprised laugh escaped her.
"Tangerine?"
She stared at the note, her fingers tracing the words.
"So I'm just supposed to trust you? After everything?" She glanced at the suit again, then back at the note. "And you're not even going to ask if I like the name?"
She paused.
"...Fine. It's not terrible."
She repeated it, quieter this time. "Tangerine."
She looked at the suit. Then at the note.
"Fine," she muttered, but she was smiling. "I'll accept it. But don't think this means I'm going to start answering to it."
She tucked the note into her pocket. Then she grabbed the suit and held it up.
Behind her, Vivi was already peeking into the crate where her suit lay—a deep blue number with silver accents, elegant and regal.
Mira, meanwhile, was practically spinning in place, clutching her bright pink suit against her chest despite it still being sealed in its plastic wrapping. The sight was almost enough to make one wonder if she was about to take it out on a romantic date.
Then again, considering the Rent-A-Girlfriend author had apparently taken Chizuru's body pillow on a date, perhaps the bar for fictional-girl-related behavior was already buried somewhere beneath the Earth's crust.
And here Mira was, innocently hugging a plastic-wrapped superhero suit, looking like she was one step away from booking a candlelit dinner for two.
Chopper was holding a small green suit, looking thoroughly confused, while Usopp stared at a yellow one with trembling hands. Nearby, Conis and Pagaya peered into the crate, their eyes wide with wonder and anticipation if they would get one as well or not.
Nami looked around at the chaos. Then she removed the note from her pocket and read it one more time.
"Tangerine."
She pocketed it again.
She could get used to that.
She looked at the other bundles still in the crate. Vivi's name. Mira's name. Robin's name. Each one had a suit, but Vivi and Mira had already claimed theirs. Only Robin's remained.
She picked up Robin's bundle. A note was attached: '"Robin doesn't need this since I'm with her. You two can exchange amongst yourselves if you don't like the color. Also, don't worry about size—it's auto-adjustable."'
Nami frowned. "Auto-adjustable?"
She didn't understand until she glanced at Mira. The pink suit that had been oversized just a few seconds ago when Mira first put it on—baggy, loose, hanging off her frame. But now it was hugging her body perfectly, like it had been tailored to her exact measurements.
Like the suit in that Spider-Man homecoming auto adjustable suit. The one that adjusts to the wearer.
She looked back at the note. Then at Vivi.
"Vivi. Do you want to trade?"
Vivi glanced at Robin's suit, then at her own deep blue one. "For Robin's?"
"Yeah."
Vivi thought about it. "If we take it..."
"Robin will use it as an excuse to get Takuya to make a new one for her," Nami finished. "And it'll be better than ours. And she'll boast about it."
"Exactly."
They exchanged a look.
"Leave it," Vivi said.
Nami nodded. "Leave it."
She put Robin's suit back in the crate.
Vivi ran her fingers over her own suit. "This is... actually nice. The color suits me."
Mira was already holding hers against her body by wearing it—the pink suit now perfectly fitted—and spinning. "It's so pretty! And it's not made of condoms! That's a relief!"
Nami rolled her eyes. Then something clicked.
She grabbed Mira's arm. "Wait. How do you know about the goods being made of condoms?"
Mira blinked. "What?"
"When I was discussing the condom gear with Takuya, you were busy doing your nonsensical things around the ship. You weren't there. So how do you know what they're made of?"
Mira's face split into a wide, absurd grin—the kind that somehow didn't seem unusual for her. "Oh! This was my idea!"
Nami's jaw dropped. "What?"
Mira let go of hugging the suit that she was practically wearing, and her body was already hugging it as she spread her arms wide, as if presenting a grand performance. "Okay, so, picture this. We're on the ship. I'm bored. Takuya is making cookies.
And I think to myself—what if we sold something so stupid, so ridiculous, that people would wear it without even knowing what it was? And then I thought—condoms.
Condoms are funny. They're stretchy. They're waterproof. They're perfect! Plus they do a pretty good job holding semen in it, also it was just after he fucked my body and mind with his huge dick that I love a lot"
She spun in a circle, her suit flaring. Nami rolled her eyes, watching Mira shamelessly expose details about her sex life without a care in the world.
'Well, who am I even talking about?' Nami thought, filtering out Mira's nonsensical ramblings. 'It's Mira. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up walking around semi-naked just because Takuya told her to, or because she found it fun.'
She let Mira's words wash over her, not really listening, just waiting for the useful parts.
"So back to the topic," Mira continued, oblivious to Nami's disinterest, "I told Takuya—'Let's sell them as hats! And raincoats! And umbrellas!' And he said—" she paused, lowering her voice to mimic Takuya's calm tone—"'That's actually not a bad idea. Plus we are going to Skypiea, so it's going to be fun.'"
Nami perked up slightly at that. Skypiea. Of course. That's why Takuya had been so interested.
"And I said—" Mira's voice went back to its normal pitch—"'I want to see dumb idiots wearing condoms like fashion so I can make fun of them for being total idiots! Bigger idiots than me!' And he said—" back to the mimic— "Let's do it."
Nami sighed. "You're an idiot."
"I know!" Mira said cheerfully.
"But wait," Nami said, narrowing her eyes. "You actually suggested that? To Takuya?"
Mira's cheerful expression flickered. Just for a moment. A tiny crack in the mask.
"Well," she said, her voice suddenly quieter, "I may have... overstepped a little."
Nami raised an eyebrow. "Overstepped?"
Mira fidgeted with the edge of her suit. "I might have... gotten a bit too excited. Said some things that were... out of line."
"What kind of things?"
Mira winced. "I was joking around. Being my usual self. But I took it too far. I made a crude comment about... about something I shouldn't have. I didn't mean anything by it—I was just being stupid, trying to be funny. But the moment the words left my mouth, I knew I'd messed up."
Nami crossed her arms. "What did he do?"
Mira's shoulders slumped. "He put me in my place."
"How?"
"His voice went cold," Mira said, her voice hollow. "His eyes went flat. And he told me—very calmly—that if I ever overstepped my boundaries like that again, I would face consequences. He didn't yell. He didn't threaten. He just... stated it. Like a fact."
Nami waited. "And?"
"And then he told me what those consequences would be." Mira shuddered. "He said I would wear the condom gear—the raincoat, the hat, the umbrella—for three weeks. No proper clothing other than that.
I'd be practically naked, wearing just the condom goodies I'd come up with for my own excitement. That would be my hell. In public. Every day. No exceptions. No cookies. No sweets. Not anything I liked. Just the gear and the shame."
Nami blinked. "He told you what would happen if you didn't stop."
Mira nodded miserably. "It was a warning. A threat. A promise of what would happen if I didn't get my act together. He didn't make me do it. He just told me what would happen if I kept pushing. And I... I obeyed."
She paused, shuddering at the memory.
"I am the most obedient bitch you've ever seen. I didn't complain. I didn't talk back. I did everything he said. Because I knew—if I didn't, he would follow through. And I couldn't handle that kind of humiliation."
Nami listened to all this, then let out a long sigh.
"So what now," she said, her voice flat, "you enjoy getting domesticated by Takuya?"
Mira's face lit up. Her gloom vanished instantly, replaced by a bright, shameless grin.
"Oh, absolutely!" she said, practically bouncing. "It was amazing! The way he just... took control. The way he didn't even raise his voice, just told me what would happen and I obeyed completely.
The way he made me obey without even touching me, just with words and rules." She shivered, but it wasn't from cold. "It was the hottest thing ever."
Nami stared at her. Then she sighed again, deeper this time.
"You're hopeless."
"I know!" Mira said, still grinning.
Nami shook her head, turning back to the stall. "Just... stay quiet about the condom part. And try not to talk about your absurd sex life for five minutes. Especially not with Skypieans."
Mira tilted her head. "Why not? It's a good story!"
"Because they don't need to know about your adventures. Or your—" Nami gestured vaguely. "—enthusiasm."
"But I'm proud of it!"
"I know you are. That's the problem."
Mira pouted. "You're no fun."
Nami didn't respond. She was already turning away, her mind shifting back to the stall, the money, the chaos. But then she stopped.
She looked back at Mira.
"Actually, I need to ask you something." Nami said unable to control her curiosity any longer.
Mira perked up. "What?"
"Where did Takuya find you? And how does he put up with you? And your antics?"
Mira's face split into a wide grin. "He found me in a box!"
Nami blinked. "A box?"
"A big box! On an island! I was hiding from some bad people, and he opened the box, looked at me, and said—" she paused, lowering her voice to mimic Takuya's calm tone—"'You'll do.' And then he took me with him!"
Nami stared at her. "That's... that's not an answer."
"But it's true!!"
Nami sighed. "Fine. Keep your secrets." She jabbed a finger toward the stall. "But you keep your mouth shut in front of the Skypieans. No condom talk. No sex talk. No—"
"No promises!"
Mira laughed, twirling in place. "Anyways, my plan worked! Look at them! They're all walking around with condoms on their heads! And they're so proud of it! It's the funniest thing I've ever seen!"
Nami buried her face in her hands.
Nami stared at her. Her jaw was still on the floor.
"That... was your idea?"
"Yep!"
"All of it?"
"All of it!"
"The hats? The raincoats? The umbrellas?" Nami asked once again trying to reconfirm if she didn't miss any part which said this wasn't her plan and she was joking.
"Everything!"
Nami grabbed Mira by the shoulders. "Listen to me. You cannot mention the condoms. If anyone finds out and asks for a refund, I will make you pay for every single berry I lose. Every. Single. One."
Mira pouted. "But—"
"No buts!"
"Fine," Mira grumbled. "I won't say anything."
"You better not."
Mira nodded, but her grin didn't fade. "But you have to admit—it was a good idea."
Nami stared at her. Then, despite everything, she let out a short laugh.
"...It was a great idea. Not only did I make great profit, but also got to laugh at people and mock their minds without having to have any guilty consciousness for them or anything."
Mira beamed.
