Lux ignored her.
Because the vision was moving again.
The shadow descended among the first elves.
Helping.
That was the strange part.
The shadow moved through the ancient forest like a protector, or at least something pretending to be one. When beasts larger than trees crept toward the fragile settlement, the shadow stood between them. When storms tore branches apart, the shadow lifted one hand and deflected lightning. When poisonous mist rolled from black valleys, the shadow carved barriers into the earth.
The first elves watched with awe.
Gratitude.
Confusion.
They were young.
Too young.
Not in body, perhaps. Some of them already carried power. Some carried intelligence sharp enough to carve civilization from wilderness. But emotionally?
Historically?
Politically?
They were children.
New beings in an old world.
And old beings loved new things.
New things were easy to impress.
Easy to protect.
Easy to bind.
