Naomi frowned slightly.
Lux's smile turned faintly self-mocking. "If I stay in the numbers too long, I become the numbers. Survival rate. Power gap. Risk. Loss. Debt. Cost." His gaze lowered to her lips. "So I choose something else."
Her voice softened. "Me?"
"You."
The answer came too easily.
Too honestly.
It startled her more than the kiss had.
Naomi's fingers tightened on his robe. "Lux, that's—"
He silenced her with another kiss, softer this time, almost reverent. It wasn't to shut her up. It was to show her, to pour into her the thing he couldn't say.
The kiss deepened slowly. His tongue traced her lower lip, a patient exploration that made her body arch toward him of its own accord. She tasted chocolate, the remnants of sweetness on his tongue, and beneath it, the distinct, smoky flavor that was uniquely Lux.
