~~~ [START]
The morning sun caused Vlad to open his eyes as its rays entered through the open window.
He stared at the ceiling for a while, his mind still processing what was going on.
Rising, his nose twitched with the smell of a freshly made breakfast and clean, shining floors.
He frowned as he looked around, noticing how most of the dishes had been done.
'She made breakfast,' he thought, his gut rumbling from the scent of eggs.
He had never had eggs; he didn't even have food to begin with.
Vlad stood up gracefully, then made his way to the kitchen, immediately took out a fork from the cupboard, and then had a bite.
"Too salty," he whispered with a giggle, shook his head, then finished the meal.
After washing the plate, he turned his eyes to the clock.
He sighed when he saw it; it seemed that the sun had risen way too late.
Vlad walked to the stairs, heading straight for the shower.
It took about 30 minutes until he descended fully prepared.
Grabbing his bag, he flicked a finger, and his bike keys launched straight into his hand.
He opened the door, then walked out, not bothering to look back.
And as if by magic, slowly by itself, the door softly shut.
"Well… it's, it's…" Alice was hesitant, as her eyes were fully focused on a painting.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" John shot in, moving too close for comfort near Alice's figure. "Spent all night making it," he said, but he frowned when he heard the faintest of giggles from Vlad, who was observing them from the near left.
John clicked his tongue, then turned his eyes to the teacher, who was drawing closer to their table while judging other students' work.
Vlad moved toward them, eyes truly stunned by John's definition of art.
He instinctively turned his eyes to Alice, who, to his understanding, shared a similar expression.
"Okay, monkeys," the teacher interrupted their intense staring contest, "let's see what we…" The teacher frowned, clearly pissed.
He turned to John, not even bothering to ask who the art belonged to.
And John, seeing the teacher's stare, just sighed inwardly; his eyes nearly releasing tears.
"Margaret!" he shouted, causing a student who was seated with his group in the far back to suddenly stand. "Make some room in your group for John," the teacher said, instantly causing John's eyes to widen.
John shot his eyes toward Margaret, as if daring him not to accept.
Margaret's face hinted at pain, truly bothered by the command. But he still nodded, which caused John to turn his eyes to the teacher.
"But, sir… I have already done so much work for this group," John said, hands raised in prayer. "Please, this won't even make sense. It's supposed to be groups of three…" he tried to plead, turning his eyes directly toward Alice.
But the teacher, too focused on his own objective, interrupted the bargain.
"No!" he said directly, his figure already moving to the others. "I gave you too many chances, Creed," he spat out John's second name. "Your stubbornness is affecting the others; you either do it, or you head straight to the principal."
John frowned, turning his head to Alice once again. Then he whined, eyes almost crying.
He opened his arms, clearly asking her to hug him. But the teacher pulled him straight by the collar, dragging his body backward and moving him out the door.
Alice's eyes widened, clearly surprised by the spectacle.
Then she turned to Vlad, noting his giggles.
"You didn't have to do that," she said, moving closer to him.
Vlad turned his eyes to John's painting, unwilling to comprehend how someone's art could represent an aspect so horrid.
Vlad turned to her, clearly amused by the show that had just happened.
"I didn't do anything," he replied, raising his hand, then crossing his fingers.
-...-
They laughed after the silence reached its peak, clearly taking advantage of the teacher's absence.
Alice turned her head and focused her eyes on her own canvas, lifting a paintbrush and starting the work.
"Thank you," she said, a smile still lingering at the ends of her lips.
Vlad smiled lightly, turning his head to hers.
"No need," he assured, dragging the brush onto some black paint. "It's just payback for cleaning." She turned her head to him, half amused. "And cooking… and washing the dishes."
They giggled when he said the last part.
"How was it?" she asked, her eyes entirely focused on him.
"It was… delicious," he lied, completely forgetting that she could hear his heartbeat. "It just needed a pinch less salt, and it would have been perfect."
She pouted her lips at his words, half holding back a smile.
But her eyes kept staring, not looking away from him, even after he turned his head.
Was it obsession, need, or desire?
She didn't know, but whatever it was, it was deemed to last forever.
It was destined to.
—------------------------------------------------------------------
"I was really hoping to see you at lunch," Alice said, walking out the school's door, with Vlad following behind her.
"Yeah," he said, brushing it off. "I had to attend some extra lessons with Miss Rose." He laughed as he noticed Alice's stunned expression. "Don't say it," he taunted.
And she shook her head, not smiling, not joking, but serious.
"She grooms children," she whispered, causing him to giggle.
He truly didn't know how she would act if she knew that her statement was what he inwardly wanted, or, too many, what he was hoping to achieve.
She stopped in her tracks, turning her head to Vlad, who stood behind her.
He was a foot taller than she, which meant she had to lift her face slightly upward to clearly meet his eyes.
She smiled as he lifted a brow.
"The assignment is due on Friday," she said, walking closer until their faces stood an arm's length apart. "I'll come over so we can do it…" His heart skipped a beat, truly stunned by her statement.
Vlad didn't need to nod; he didn't need to accept, because at that very instant, she turned around, then began to walk away.
He couldn't stop himself from smiling; he clearly couldn't control it.
So he let it embrace his face, visibly unashamed of what he was smiling at.
When, suddenly?
His eyes quickly twitched as the sound of a car drifting on the ground caught his attention.
Time seemed to pause as he turned his head to Bella, who was unlocking her car door with her keys.
Vlad's eyes instantly shrank, his body completely hardening as he noticed the drifting van moving toward her standing figure.
He almost bolted; he nearly dashed with all his strength.
But Alice, the ghoul who had walked away a while ago, appeared in near split second to hold him back.
He nearly bolted past her, not seeming to care in the slightest.
But before he could hear her plea, right when he was about to use all his strength to save Bella from getting crushed.
Edward's figure bolted past him, moving in seconds, pushing Bella back to the side and stretching his hands to prevent it from slamming onto her figure.
Relief washed over him when he witnessed it, breathing out heavily.
Quickly, at human speed, Vlad finally began to approach.
He didn't even acknowledge Alice, who was standing near him, when he ran to the front.
And Edward, the ghoul who was responsible for saving Bella, just ran away.
Leaving Bella, Vlad, and a bunch of humans clearly worried sick.
Leaving them to wonder if it was a miracle or a coincidence.
Leaving fate everlasting.
