Chapter 145 - Ch 145: Meeting Serafall

Lunch break.

The bell rang, and the classroom erupted into chatter as everyone pulled out their bentos. I decided to step out into the corridor for a breather—and to escape Matsuda's graphic retelling of how he almost talked to a girl from the next class.

"By the way, Buchou," I said, walking beside Rias as we made our way to the vending machines. "Did Sirzechs-sama come today?"

Rias pressed a hand to her forehead and sighed. "Yeah. He came… along with my father."

I blinked. "So your dad came too? Wow. That must've been one intense classroom visit."

Rias gave me a tired smile. "You have no idea. The entire class froze when they entered. Two red-haired men radiating demonic power? My teacher nearly passed out."

I tried not to laugh but failed miserably. "Pfft—yeah, I can imagine that."

Just then, Kiba appeared from the hallway, holding a canned tea. His usual perfect smile was in place.

"Ah, Buchou, Ise. Everyone came, huh?"

"Kiba, you came for a drink too?" Rias asked, tilting her head.

He pointed down the corridor. "No, not exactly. I heard there was a witch doing a photography event. Thought I'd check it out."

"...A witch?" Rias and I exchanged confused glances.

Then we heard it.

[Kaccha! Kaccha! Kaccha!]

Camera flashes, excited male voices, and the distinct chaos of a crowd.

"...Oh no," I muttered.

Rias and I peeked around the corner, and—yep. Just as I feared.

A large group of guys was gathered, their cameras clicking furiously at a figure in the center of the hallway.

A cute girl—no, a very cute girl—was twirling around in a frilly magical-girl costume.

The outfit was unmistakable. The short pink skirt, the glittering wand, the twin ribbons—she was dressed as Magical Girl Mil Kiss from the anime Mil Kiss Viral 7 Alternative.

And she was good. Like, professionally good. Her every pose looked straight out of an animation frame.

Her skirt flipped a little too freely, though, and I quickly looked away before Rias noticed.

But then, realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

That hair. That face. That smile.

"...Wait a minute," I muttered, eyes wide.

Rias followed my gaze—and froze.

"Wh—WHAT!?" she shouted, her voice cracking.

Yep.

It was Serafall Leviathan.

Pic

One of the Four Maou. Magical Girl costume and all.

And she was having a public photoshoot in the middle of Kuoh Academy's hallway during classroom visit day.

Rias groaned, dragging her hand down her face. "Not again…"

Before we could react further, a familiar voice shouted from the other side of the crowd.

"Hey, you there! Who's holding a photo session in a public corridor!?"

Saji came charging through the mass of students, his student council armband fluttering dramatically. Behind him, a group of female council members followed, looking equally panicked.

"Disperse, disperse!" Saji yelled, waving his hands. "Today's open house! Stop making a scene!"

The crowd, realizing that authority had arrived, began to scatter. The photographers left reluctantly, grumbling as they stowed their cameras.

Saji turned toward the magical girl. "You too! Please don't wear such revealing costumes here. Even if you're a visitor, there's a dress code. What are you even—"

"Eh? But this is my uniform☆."

Serafall struck a peace pose, sparkles practically flying from her eyes.

I swear I heard someone's soul leave their body.

Saji visibly twitched, trying to maintain his composure. Then, recognizing Rias, he bowed slightly.

"Oh! Rias-senpai! You came at the right time. I was just guiding Maou-sama and your father around!"

As Saji turned, I saw Sona Sitri leading Sirzechs and Rias's father toward us. The two crimson-haired devils exuded an aura of calm authority that instantly silenced the hallway.

"Saji," Sona said sharply. "I told you to handle things efficiently."

"Yes, Kaichou!" Saji replied. "It's just that this woman—"

But then Sona stopped mid-sentence. Her eyes landed on the magical girl, and she froze.

"...Oh no," she whispered.

Serafall's eyes sparkled as she spotted her. "Sona-chan! Found you☆!"

Before anyone could react, Serafall dashed forward and glomped her younger sister, wrapping her arms around her in an overly dramatic hug.

"S-Serafall-sama…" Sona said through clenched teeth, maintaining her polite smile.

Rias looked just as exasperated. "A-Ara, Serafall-sama. Long time no see."

"Rias-chan☆!" Serafall sang, turning her beaming smile toward her. "How have you been? Studying hard? Drinking enough milk? You're growing up so fast☆!"

Rias forced a smile that was 80% politeness and 20% internal screaming. "Y-Yes. Thanks to you, I'm fine. Um… did you come for Sona's class visit?"

"Of course☆! But Sona-chan didn't even tell me about it! She's so mean!" Serafall puffed her cheeks adorably. "I was so shocked, I almost declared war on Heaven☆!"

Everyone in the hallway collectively froze.

Rias's face paled. "P-Please don't do that!"

And then Serafall's bright blue eyes fell on me.

Her playful grin softened into curiosity.

"Ise," Rias said quietly beside me. "Greet her."

"No. Don't," Serafall interrupted suddenly, raising her hand. But then she blinked and walked straight toward me anyway.

She extended her hand. "My name is Serafall. Nice to meet you. What's yours?"

"Issei Hyoudou," I said, shaking her hand.

She nodded, still holding my hand, her expression… oddly serious now.

Then she just… stared.

Minutes passed. Her smile faded slightly, replaced by something unreadable.

The air felt heavier. Even Rias shifted uncomfortably.

Finally, Sona stepped forward, breaking the silence. "Sister, let's go. Sirzechs-sama is looking for you."

It was an obvious lie, but thankfully, Serafall let go of my hand and allowed herself to be pulled away—though she kept glancing at me over her shoulder the entire time.

When they disappeared down the hall, Rias let out a breath.

"...What was that?" she murmured.

I shrugged helplessly.

Then she shook her head. "No, no, I must be imagining things. She's a Maou, after all."

"Yeah," I said softly. "A Maou… in a magical girl outfit."

And somewhere in the distance, Saji muttered, "I need a vacation."
