Duel Spirits existed within Duel Academy.
Most of them were manifested from weak cards that had been discarded by students. These spirits generally held no aggression toward ordinary humans.
Furthermore, since the majority of them were low level Normal Monsters with pitifully low attack points, even if they were to go berserk, their threat level was laughably low.
The idea of being truly endangered by such Duel Spirits was almost an impossibility.
As for the more senior spirits on this island, they resided within a withered well hidden deep in the academy forest. The area around the abandoned well was overgrown with weeds and blanketed in a heavy, eerie silence.
However, as a spirit user who possessed extraordinary senses, Jaden Yuki could clearly hear the resentful murmurs of numerous spirits echoing from beneath the well.
"Found it."
Looking down from the edge of the well, Jaden saw a massive pile of discarded cards. He slid down a dangling vine, landing in a hollow carpeted with Normal Monsters.
Skull Servant, Serpent Marauder, Man-Eating Plant...
There were all sorts of low level Normal Monsters; some were so obscure that even Jaden couldn't recognize them.
"Hey! You over there! Who gave you permission to be here!"
Just as Jaden was preparing to catch a few spirits for questioning, a furious voice barked from behind him. Jaden turned his head.
He saw a bloated, ugly spirit with shiny black skin, wearing nothing but a pair of red underpants, floating a short distance away. Beside it stood another green spirit with a long tongue and a muscular build, wearing identical red underpants.
Despite its robust appearance, the green spirit seemed far more cowardly than its black companion. It tugged at the black spirit's arm, its face twisted in a mask of anxiety.
"Wait, wait a second... I have a bad feeling about this guy."
"Huh?" Ojama Black glanced at Ojama Green before following his gaze toward the intruder.
The moment it saw Jaden's dark golden pupils, Ojama Black shuddered violently. It immediately threw its arms around Ojama Green, both of them shivering like leaves in a gale.
"Eeeeeeek!"
"Those eyes are terrifying!"
"We're doomed! He's going to eat us! A monster is going to eat us!"
Watching the two spirits wailing and clutching their heads, Jaden's lips twitched.
Eat them? Looking at the current situation, you guys are clearly the ones who look like monsters.
Besides, these two...
"If I remember correctly, you're Ojama Black and Ojama Green, right?"
Jaden walked toward the cards discarded on the ground and picked up their respective copies.
"Please don't kill us!"
"We'll do anything! Please, just spare our lives!"
The two Ojamas howled, dropping into a prostrate position and bowing frantically before Jaden. It was obvious that the Supreme King's aura was not something low level spirits like them could withstand.
Moreover, a faint, shadowy figure flickered behind Jaden. The interweaving of green and amber eyes within the darkness made the Ojamas' hearts leap into their throats.
That sensation...
It was the overwhelming pressure of a high level spirit!
Based on that terrifying weight alone, that spirit's power had to be at least Level 10 or higher!
"Don't be so dramatic. I'm not here to hurt you."
Jaden closed his eyes and reined in the Supreme King's aura. Once he mentally told Yubel to recede, the two spirits seemed to recover slightly, though they remained shivering and pitiful.
"B-Big Brother! May we ask what business you have with us?"
The black and green Ojamas knelt respectfully before Jaden, their foreheads drenched in cold sweat. They had switched to calling him "Big Brother" with remarkable speed.
Jaden shook his head helplessly at their groveling behavior.
"As spirits of this island, you should know everything that happens here, right?" Pushing aside his annoyance, Jaden got straight to the point.
"Well... Big Brother, although we've been on this island for a long time, we've been stuck in this well for most of it. We aren't very clear on what happens outside," Ojama Black explained cautiously.
Duel Spirits resided within their cards. Powerful spirits could wander the human world at will, but the weak ones were bound to their cards. Unless they were in the Spirit World, they could not stray far from the physical card itself.
Because these spirits had been trapped at the bottom of the well for so long, their knowledge of the outside world was incomplete at best.
"Then, have you noticed anything unusual nearby recently?" Jaden asked from a different angle.
"Unusual things..."
Ojama Black and Ojama Green looked at each other.
"Come to think of it, there have been a lot of Will-O-Wisps lately."
"Yikes! Green, stop talking about that, it's scary!"
"I'm afraid of ghosts too! That's why I haven't dared to look out of the well recently!"
Will-O-Wisps?
Jaden's interest was piqued. However, he couldn't be sure what was causing them; they could easily be other Duel Spirits living on the island.
"Anything else?" Jaden rubbed his chin, frowning.
"That's..." The Ojamas looked at each other again and shook their heads repeatedly.
Jaden felt a twinge of disappointment. It looks like I found the wrong spirits...
Just as Jaden was about to leave, a weak voice spoke up from beside him.
"U-Um..."
Jaden looked down. At his feet, a spirit girl in tattered clothes emerged from a card.
The Unhappy Maiden?
"Um, if we're talking about unusual things... last night, I saw something outside the well... there were white rabbits flying."
"Rabbits?" Jaden looked at the girl with a strange expression.
"No, they weren't exactly rabbits. They were more like..."
"Ghosts. White ghosts in the shape of rabbits."
Meanwhile, at the Slifer Red cafeteria.
The atmosphere in the cafeteria today was particularly strange. The students were staring in shock at the short newcomer standing next to the faculty table, whispering among themselves.
"Hey, is that a new student?"
"A transfer student coming in at a time like this? That's weird."
Professor Banner stood by, smiling as he clapped his hands to draw everyone's attention.
"Everyone, let me introduce someone to you."
"This is Blair Flannigan, a transfer student who will be joining Slifer Red."
"I hope everyone can get along well, meow, Blair."
Professor Banner smiled at the student beside him, who wore a hat pulled low, covering half of her face.
"Yes, sir!"
Blair Flannigan lifted her head and responded with a voice full of energy.
