Phil Urich had a secret: he was a superhero.
The story began about half a month ago. Like others, he received a metallic sphere. A person named Kang the Conqueror said that in the future, Phil would become the superhero known as the Green Goblin Knight by injecting the Green Goblin serum, but in the distant future, he would become the villain Hobgoblin due to the serum's side effects. Due to a historical deviation, his original fate had been altered, and thus, Kang sent the sphere.
Like everyone else, Phil initially called the police to explain the situation. However, the police said nothing when they arrived, didn't even take the sphere, and simply claimed he was delusional, fabricating things to increase their workload.
Phil was stunned, so he kept the object. Later, he encountered a robbery where several knife-wielding thugs were robbing a convenience store. In that moment, Phil debated whether or not to help.
If you could become a superhero, but the cost was spending the rest of your life as a mentally deranged lunatic, what would you choose?
Phil didn't know. He only knew someone needed help, so he acted. Injecting the serum in an unnoticed corner, he used the high collar and hood of his windbreaker to hide his face and stopped the robbery.
Afterward, he ran into the higher-ups of those robbers. They turned out to be part of a New York gang, more powerful and less humane. Phil, now possessing super-strength, wasn't afraid of them, but what about his parents and Uncle Ben?
That's right, Phil's uncle was also named Ben—Benjamin Urich, the Daily Bugle's most excellent investigative reporter.
Consequently, Phil Urich chose to conceal his identity from his family. He also dared not use the overtly Oscorp-tech Pumpkin Bombs and Glider. And until today, he had never used those terrifying, lethal weapons, until he saw the Goblin King's Goblin army.
Phil panicked. He had only seen in Kang's recording that he would become a villain called the Hobgoblin, but he hadn't known how terrifying that enemy was. Only today did he realize the foe was a complete and utter psychopath! Would he really turn into that?
Realizing the severity of the situation, Phil made up his mind: he must stop himself from becoming like that. He wanted to talk to his Uncle Ben. If absolutely necessary, he would go to the Avengers to see if they could retrieve the powers he gained from the serum.
With this thought, Phil carried a box of items back to the office. From a distance, he heard Jonah's roar; he was yelling about Spider-Man again, as Spider-Man's recent violent apprehension of Roderick was, in Jonah's view, unnecessary and indicative of Spider-Man's violent nature.
"Anyone can see Roderick is a scumbag! He played it too well, as if he knew we were coming. Our investigation was going smoothly; we could have used Roderick's underestimation of us to extract more information! Now look! I don't believe these vigilantes can squeeze anything useful out of Roderick!"
Jonah was ranting furiously. Benjamin Urich merely shrugged: "But they know a telepath. Maybe they'll choose to read his mind for sufficient intelligence."
"Mind-reading? That's an infringement on civil privacy! Besides, that kind of thing can't be used as proper evidence in court!" Jonah roared, but Benjamin only smiled.
Phil called out, "Excuse me," as he carried the items in. "Sorry, Mr. Jameson, these are the materials you wanted regarding Roderick and Mr. Hamilton. Mostly magazines that mention them."
"Good, Urich." Jonah simply nodded, then started grumbling about another matter: "Furthermore, we need a thorough investigation into why Roderick was prepared for the Daily Bugle's sudden interview. There must be an internal mole at the Bugle! I absolutely will not tolerate such an employee among my staff!"
Phil quickly nodded, but suddenly noticed the intern, Mary Jane Watson, was staring out the window, seemingly spaced out.
But she wasn't spaced out for long.
"Mr. Jameson, there's a bit of... a situation outside?"
Jameson casually retorted, "What is it, Watson? Is it another superhero roughhousing?"
"No, it looks like... that looks like the Goblin is charging towards us!"
The Goblin?
Everyone immediately thought of the lunatic Goblin army from this morning. Jonah reacted almost instantly, yelling "Everyone take cover!" and ducking under his desk, squatting with his head covered.
Unlike the Goblin King, portrayed by Hamilton, the AI Green Goblin was not one for grand gestures or deliberate fanfare. Thus, before assaulting the Daily Bugle, he didn't appear on television or make a phone call announcement. All he needed to do was snatch the right body, one that the Avengers hadn't focused on.
Mary Jane quickly hid near the side, first closing her eyes, bracing for the Pumpkin Bomb to drop. But the Goblin seemed to be arriving a little later. Hiding behind a planter by the wall, Mary Jane opened her eyes and saw the Goblin, riding a glider, rushing closer and closer.
Then, she saw golden sparks appear before her. A golden portal opened, and a black-suited Spider-Man stepped out. After glancing at her, he walked up to the floor-to-ceiling glass exterior wall and shattered the entire pane with one punch. At this moment, the Green Goblin outside threw a Pumpkin Bomb inside, so a web line adhered to the bomb, causing the fireball to ignite in mid-air outside the building.
Next, he snagged the Goblin outside with a single web line, dragging him directly into the Daily Bugle building, slamming him against the wall, and then restraining him with webbing.
"You're safe," Mary Jane heard Spider-Man say to her. He then walked over to Jonah's desk and flipped it over: "Hello, Mr. Jameson."
"Oh, uh, Spider-Man? Why did you flip my desk?!"
"Sorry, I haven't been in a good mood lately." Spider-Man clearly didn't want to elaborate, only asking: "Which one is Phil Urich? I need to take him to the Avengers Tower."
"That's my nephew." Benjamin Urich stepped forward first and questioned Spider-Man: "Why do you want to take him away?"
"He also received a metallic sphere capable of turning him into a Green Goblin. In fact, he's a viable adapter for the Green Goblin serum, and also the target of the Green Goblin's capture."
Just as Peter was about to say the next sentence, he heard Jonah's roar.
"You're the mole! Urich!"
