Chapter 634 - Chapter 634: What Is the All-Father

The hatred of the Mangog, fueled by an inability to kill Odin, had strengthened the beast to a degree capable of crushing Uru metal. Loki's backstab at the critical moment completely disrupted Odin's combat rhythm. Concerned for his wife and deprived of the Destroyer's aid, Odin suffered successive blows from the Mangog, until scars finally appeared upon his face.

However, he did not allow himself to be vexed. Almost instantly, he sent word for his wife to be rescued, then swung Gungnir, lashing it against the Mangog's body.

Yet the effect of this strike was even weaker than before; it failed to even push the Mangog back very far. The repelled Mangog hoisted an entire nearby building and smashed it directly onto Odin, before leaping high and crashing down upon him with brutal force.

From a distance, one could only see plumes of dust erupting one after another, followed by slabs of flooring being hurled into the air.

Then, hundreds of meters of ground were upturned by the sheer force of the struggle. Odin thrust the Spear of Heaven into the Mangog's body, blood now trickling down his own face.

The Mangog simply endured the damage, being slammed into the ground only to strike the earth with immense power. With a single punch, the surrounding terrain was flipped upward; hundreds of meters of earth rose from all sides and converged toward the center, forming what was practically a mountain peak.

Suddenly, the Mangog burst out from within the mountain, dragging Odin with him before hurling the King into the far distance. Upon landing, Odin immediately flipped his body and thrust Gungnir into the surface to decelerate, coming to a halt on one knee.

The Mangog lunged toward Odin again, only to be sent flying into the distance by a one-armed giant wielding a massive battle-axe. The giant immediately ran over, using his single hand to help Odin up.

"Father, you..."

"Go, protect your mother, Tyr."

Odin wiped the blood from his forehead and looked at his son. As the God of War of the Aesir, Tyr possessed strength perhaps second only to Odin and Thor.

However, the monster before them was not something they could overcome. Odin had already decided to go all out; at a time like this, his children could not be around to get in the way.

Not even Thor.

"Loki has ambushed your mother. She is in great danger and needs protection. Furthermore, what is to come is not something you can handle."

At this point, Odin added a few more words.

"Also, after this battle, I will fall rapidly into a deep sleep. I do not know how long it will take to wake. During this time, your mother will likely be unable to manage affairs. You brothers must work together to face our enemies."

Seeing the look in Odin's eyes, Tyr hesitated for a moment before departing. Odin turned back to the monster before him and removed his helmet.

"Mangog, what is it you wish to prove? That I am not noble, or that you are strong enough?"

The aged God-King reached out his hand. The Destroyer armor lying on the ground drifted upward, casing itself around his body. The left arm that had been bitten off by the Mangog began to rapidly regenerate.

Odin's eyes released a powerful radiance, and the phantom of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, manifested behind him.

"If I had to concern myself with every civilization Asgard destroyed, Asgard would never have known such glory. Everything here, everything that is Asgard, could never have been divorced from those expeditions. I feel no fear or regret. On the contrary, I am proud, for I conquered such a vast world and maintained it, forging my own divine kingdom."

"And your hatred... among so many civilizations I have conquered and destroyed, what does it truly amount to?!"

Odin, now fully clad in the Destroyer, appeared before the Mangog in an instant. He pinned the beast down and drove him thousands of miles away to the very edge of Asgard's realm, sending the Mangog tumbling across the wasteland.

The Mangog stood up shakily, only to have his head seized by Odin and slammed violently into the ground.

"If your hatred were truly of any use, how could Asgard possibly possess its current strength and prosperity!"

As the Mangog's head was smashed into the surface by Odin, a massive fissure spiderwebbed across the earth. Finally, the very continental shelf of Asgard fractured.

A portion of the entire world collapsed due to this strike; the shelf shattered, drowning in the void.

Yet the Mangog was not dead. He stared at Odin with eyes full of resentment. Odin did not indulge him, grabbing his head and shoving it into the void, then doing it again, and again.

Odin was also in a state of fury. Perhaps it wasn't resentment, but his anger was real. With his All-Power, Odin grabbed the Mangog and delivered a punch that banished the creature directly into the heart of a star.

Having completed this, Odin sighed with exhaustion, intending to take a moment to rest. But a sound emerged from behind him.

Odin turned and saw the Mangog, who should have been cast into the star, now literally tearing through a portal with his bare hands, dragging himself back to Asgard with sheer, burning rage.

For a moment, Odin was caught off guard, missing the chance to counterattack as he was seized by the Mangog once more.

But Odin's current power would not let the beast succeed so easily. The great All-Father crushed the Mangog once again. Under that immense power, the Mangog was nearly utterly annihilated; he was destroyed until nothing remained.

Odin was uncertain if this was truly over, but due to the excessive use of his divine power, he felt a crushing weariness. He felt himself beginning to grow drowsy. He sat upon a stone, attempting to recover some strength.

It was then that Odin, sitting upon the rock, witnessed the sight he least desired. Accompanied by a yellow mist, the Mangog was regenerating—and at a speed beyond Odin's imagination. Rapidly, the Mangog was reshaped. He immediately spotted Odin and began striding toward him.

Odin raised his spear, intending to resolve the matter of the Mangog one last time before he completely lost consciousness.

Right then, Mjolnir pierced through the sky, slamming directly into the Mangog. After the monster was hammered away, Thor, carrying Peter, landed beside Odin. He looked at his father, appearing as though he wanted to speak but hesitated.

"You are not his enemy, my son. So long as hatred exists, that monster is immortal. Not to mention, he has already evolved to an exceptionally powerful state."

Odin spoke as he stood up, but he was stopped by Thor.

"I have a way, Father. I can defeat this monster."

Thor spoke with an unknown confidence as he turned to face the Mangog.
