Chapter 86 - Chapter 84

Marie's POV 

Marcus led me quietly to the far end of the hall. He rested against the wall just like he was before he met me and Mancini. He just stood there watching people troop from the main hall to the adjacent one. I could see Mancini, but I didn't want to keep looking at him. 

Just at that time, Deanna's coffin was being carried from the hall where we were to the adjacent one, and I remembered they had announced that the immediate family should be in that one. 

"You should get going," I said. I bit my lower lip for not saying anything about everything I planned to say to him. I just didn't know how to start. 

"Nope, not going," he said, forcing a cheerful tone in his voice. 

He laughed and ran a hand down his face. "Tradition, remember. Has to be the real family. I almost was. We were just engaged. Didn't really seal it with a wedding party," he said, laughing. 

I could hear the sadness in his tone.
