Lucien slowly raised both hands.
"Should we begin with nice to meet you?"
Seran did not answer immediately.
The easy smile remained on his face, but Lucien had known him long enough in another life to see what sat beneath it.
The expression was harmless only on the surface. His weight had shifted subtly onto the balls of his feet, and the hand hidden beneath his coat had not moved.
He was ready to act.
Seran glanced toward the alley.
Then he looked toward the warehouse entrance.
Only when he confirmed that nobody else had followed did some of the tension leave his shoulders.
"You're the one I bumped into earlier."
Lucien nodded.
Seran's smile widened.
"So why did you follow me?"
Lucien considered the question.
He could hardly tell Seran that a mysterious resonance tied to a fractured identity had guided him through the city.
That would be difficult enough to explain to someone who trusted him.
Seran currently had no reason to trust him at all.
