Chapter 185 - Mewtwo vs. the Impossible

The overlapping cries of the three legendary birds fused together, roaring like crashing waves. But instead of Giovanni's attack, the first thing Logan witnessed was Sabrina soaring into the sky atop the merged beast—the Three-Headed Legendary Bird.

Its massive body blotted out the sun, three razor-sharp talons glinting coldly, and three heads lifted toward the heavens in unison, unleashing a terrifying roar. Six colossal wings flapped at once, carrying the forces of ice, thunder, and fire within their gusts.

Logan's pupils shrank in shock. To say he was surprised was an understatement. He never could have imagined that Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres could be forcibly fused into one abomination. Team Rocket's research had truly reached the level of nightmare-inducing madness.

Sabrina laughed coldly, her voice carrying over the wind.

"At last, you're mine! Don't worry, Logan. Even if you lose today, I won't kill you. Instead, I'll break your arms and legs, tie you up in my basement, and humiliate you every single day!"

It was clear she believed victory was already in her grasp. With the fused Three-Headed Bird under her command and Giovanni fighting alongside her, she thought herself untouchable. Her expression was one of chilling excitement—she was already imagining Logan broken and kneeling before her.

"Should I be… grateful?" Logan smirked bitterly. Sabrina had been ruthless enough to attempt killing Blue without hesitation, yet she now promised him life—though it was a twisted, humiliating existence as nothing more than her toy. It seemed her inspiration for such "uses" came from when Logan had invaded her mental world earlier…

"Hah! So, you've got a yandere streak after all, Sabrina!" Logan laughed boldly, though his eyes never left the monstrous bird. He couldn't afford to underestimate it for even a second. This abomination would shock even Professor Oak into speechlessness. Where did Team Rocket get such insane ideas?

"Mewtwo!" Logan raised his hand, and in an instant, Mewtwo appeared before him.

Earlier, Logan had already used his Pokédex to contact Red and Blue, informing them that Daisy Oak and the people of Pallet Town had been rescued, so they could fight freely without worry. He had also ordered Mewtwo to teleport the unconscious Blue to Daisy's side. Only Mewtwo's terrifying psychic power allowed such instantaneous rescues and returns without wasting even a second.

"Tri Attack!"

Riding upon the fused Legendary Bird, Sabrina wasted no time. The move was usually reserved for Pokémon like Dugtrio, Dodrio, or Hydreigon, yet with three divine birds forcibly merged, the technique was theirs to wield.

From each of the beast's three heads surged forth fire, lightning, and freezing winds. The combined force was beyond anything ordinary Pokémon could produce. This was Tri Attack magnified countless times.

Mewtwo, however, only smirked coldly. Raising one hand, a spiraling wave of psychic energy poured outward, twisting the very air as though space itself bent to its will. The three torrents of flame, lightning, and frost were sucked toward Mewtwo's palm as if drawn home. With a single crushing motion, Mewtwo compressed the chaotic energies into a swirling orb—then shattered it like fragile glass.

"He caught raw elemental energy… with his bare hand?!" Sabrina gasped in shock. Even as a master psychic herself, she couldn't help but feel awe—and fear—at such refined psychic mastery. What kind of monster had Team Rocket created, only for it to now stand against her?

"Mewtwo—Psychic Overdrive!" Logan commanded.

Mewtwo's eyes glowed a deep, searing violet. Unlike normal psychic attacks that emphasized finesse and control, this was pure, overwhelming force. With a push of its hand, the world seemed to heave as if the ground itself had been overturned. The psychic wave bent the air and rained down from above like a tidal wave of destruction.

The fused Three-Headed Bird and Sabrina were hurled straight into a nearby skyscraper. The impact shook the entire building, tearing its structure apart with a deafening boom.

Though terrifying in form, the fused bird was no true match for Mewtwo in a one-on-one battle.

But Logan wasn't worried about Sabrina's monstrosity. No—the true danger came from Giovanni, whose strength remained veiled in mystery.

"Bzzzzzzzzzz!"

The sound of wings echoed sharply in Logan's ears—not the wings of a bird, but the buzzing of an insect. A flash streaked across his vision, and a Beedrill appeared, darting with impossible speed. Its twin lances and venomous stinger gleamed menacingly under the sun.

"Where did that Beedrill come from?" Logan muttered, momentarily stunned. Still, he barked the command:

"Take it down, Mewtwo!"

Mewtwo nodded, spoon in hand, charging forward. But what happened next froze Logan's blood.

"Agility! Twin Needle!" Giovanni's voice rang out—from the Beedrill itself. Logan realized then: Giovanni had outfitted it with advanced technology to transmit commands remotely. Unlike Logan's unique Dragon Aura or Sabrina's psychic bond, Giovanni relied on cold, cutting-edge machines to bridge the gap.

And yet…

The moment Beedrill moved, Logan understood.

Speed.

Blinding, impossible speed.

Speed beyond human thought.

Even Mewtwo's psychic lock couldn't pin it down. Beedrill danced through the air like a storm of blades, its twin lances stabbing out in a flurry so fast they blurred into afterimages. Hundreds—thousands—of strikes filled the sky in an instant.

Mewtwo, the invincible psychic god, found itself on the defensive, desperately parrying with its spoon, unable to counterattack.

"You're shocked, aren't you, Logan?" Giovanni's mocking laughter carried through the battlefield. "This Beedrill was my very first partner. From the day I was five years old, it's been with me, growing alongside me. It is my strongest companion. Let me teach you something: there are no weak Pokémon—only weak Trainers. Even Mewtwo cannot escape that truth!"

Logan's eyes widened. Giovanni's starter… was nothing more than a Weedle from Viridian Forest. And yet, through his relentless training and bond, it had evolved into a Beedrill with power rivaling that of legendary Pokémon.

Its speed was inhuman, its strikes unstoppable, its presence dominating the battlefield. If Pokémon had realms like martial artists, this Beedrill had reached the level of a Master, transcending mortal limits. If level 100 was the ceiling, then this Beedrill had surpassed it—level 200, level 300… a living impossibility.

The only flaw? Unlike true legendaries, Beedrill lacked the divine immortality and regenerative traits that made them nearly unbeatable in wars of attrition.

If Mewtwo were at full strength, it could have fought Beedrill evenly, eventually triumphing through its legendary resilience. But right now, with its time limit, Mewtwo was at a disadvantage in endurance.

Logan's heart pounded. Without Mewtwo, that Beedrill alone might very well take down his entire team.

Now he finally understood the true core of Project Mewtwo. With the right type advantage, Giovanni could have forced even a wild, masterless Mewtwo into submission with just his Beedrill—restraining it with a Master Ball once weakened. If not for Logan and Professor Oak interfering, Mewtwo might indeed have become Giovanni's ultimate weapon.

Mewtwo was unlike other legendaries—it was newly born, inexperienced, still learning its place in the world. With Giovanni's Beedrill by his side, the rise of Team Rocket would have been unstoppable.

And Logan… had stolen Giovanni's victory. No wonder Giovanni's hatred burned so fiercely.
