Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Megan entered her home and welcomed Angelica inside. Upon their arrival, they found Joseph asleep on the sofa in his human form. When Joseph awoke, he observed Megan and Angelica watching him expectantly. After collecting himself, Joseph inquired about their concern. Angelica explained that he had fully transformed into a wolf the previous evening, but she and Megan had successfully concealed and protected him.

Megan turned on the television, where a news report described a recent attack in Transylvania, attributed to a dangerous animal believed to be a wolf or coyote. The police issued a high alert, and Chief Jade openly stated her intention to pursue and eliminate what she identified as a werewolf. Megan switched off the television, expressing apprehension that law enforcement was now actively seeking them. Angelica added that other parties might pose a threat as well.

When Joseph pressed for clarification, Angelica revealed that she was not the only vampire in Transylvania; her companions, all experienced werewolf hunters, included Matthew—the group leader and foremost expert in tracking werewolves—Maddy, who excelled at disguises for surveillance and strategic interventions, Carolyn, who provides aerial reconnaissance, Raven, who manages medical contingencies related to their vulnerabilities, and Chris, the technology specialist responsible for manipulating city infrastructure and security systems during operations. Chris's remarkable proficiency spans more than 120 years without any incidents or mistakes.

Joseph inquired about Angelica's role, to which she responded that she specialized in combat, acrobatics, and hypnotism, evading detection by both authorities and monster hunters. She highlighted her ability to mask her vampire traits with sunblock and blend in under sunlight, noting her personal interest in singing. Collectively, this team formed an effective unit capable of eluding both werewolves and those who sought to capture them.

Megan concluded by suggesting that, if necessary, she could inform the police about Angelica's associates, thereby enabling law enforcement to apprehend them while excluding Angelica from implication.

Angelica remarked, "This is not advisable. Police Chief Jade recently appeared on the news, and if my acquaintances had viewed it—as they did when Mayor Avery criticized us—Matt vowed retribution against her. They would relentlessly pursue Joseph to kill him. If we report them, our location could be the first place they search should they escape." Megan responded, "That is a valid concern. What steps should we take?" Angelica replied, "Regrettably, it is too hazardous for you to remain in proximity to me at this time. It would be best for you to keep your distance, and I will inform the others that Joseph is no longer alive. This plan should prompt the authorities to cease their pursuit. Farewell, Megan."

Angelica then approached Joseph and said, "Farewell, Joseph. Our time together has been memorable. You are important to me." She kissed Joseph on the cheek, causing his amulet to glow pink, which in turn made his tail manifest and wag briefly. Angelica departed, evidently saddened, while Joseph experienced emotional distress. His necklace subsequently turned blue, and his tail stopped moving. Observing that his tail was neither disappearing nor wagging, Joseph noticed the crystal on the necklace glowed purple, making his tail vanish before returning to a blue luminescence. Overwhelmed by emotion, Joseph began to cry and retreated to his room.

After Angelica left, she turned into a bat. Joseph watched her take flight from his window and felt heartbroken. Waving goodbye, he lay on his bed and began to cry. Megan knocked on Joseph's door, calling, "Joseph, open the door," before letting herself in and finding Joseph crying. Knowing how much he enjoyed music, Megan began singing to comfort him, assuring him that things would get better. As she sang directly to Joseph, tears filled his eyes as he looked at her.

At the same time, Angelica, still in bat form, was surrounded by the same song. When it started raining, she returned to her true self and gazed into a puddle, but saw nothing—vampires have no reflection. Filled with regret, Angelica entered Bird Karaoke feeling miserable. Seeing a joyful couple performing reminded her of happier times singing with Joseph, and she cried into her arms at her table, just as Joseph cried into his while Megan sang. Megan wiped away one of Joseph's tears as she continued singing, then hugged him gently as he cried on her shoulder.

Still enveloped by the music, Angelica stepped into the rain, transformed into a wolf, and concealed herself where no one could find her. As she lingered, guilt about Joseph crept in. Soon, Maddy appeared as a fox and noticed Angelica's unhappiness. The music continued to fill the air as they talked. "Judging by your expression, you succeeded, but it was tough," Maddy said. Angelica resumed her human form and replied, "Yes. I had to do it to my boyfriend." Maddy shifted back as well and remarked, "Love is painful, but as a vampire hunting werewolves, you had no choice." Angelica admitted, "Absolutely," flicking a petal from a flower and averting her gaze. Maddy then revealed, "Matt has big plans at the cemetery tonight. We're going to watch for people we can turn into undead servants. Are you coming?" Lost in thought and staring at the flower she'd plucked, Angelica answered, "No, go on without me. I need time to clear my head."

Maddy stated, "Suit yourself," before transforming into a bat and departing. Angelica experienced guilt about her earlier dishonesty and responded, "See you." She then gazed at the flower, which evoked memories of Joseph, prompting a smile as she walked away, holding it close to her heart, because she still had feelings for Joseph. While Angelica reflected on Joseph, Megan encouraged him to observe the rain from his window as she concluded her song, which offered guidance for managing difficult emotions. Before the conclusion of Megan's performance, Angelica and Maddy rejoined the other vampires at Dracula's castle. Upon entering, Megan finished her song and contemplated her choices as she watched the rain through the window in Joseph's room. Subsequently, Megan embraced Joseph, providing comfort as he began to feel better, though he continued to miss Angelica.
