Although by typical value calculation, a hundred-thousand-year soul ring should only be worth about one billion federal credits…
Year count doesn't determine true value. A common thousand-year-old soul beast and a rare thousand-year one have vastly different prices.
Among soul spirits of the same age, some could be worth ten times more than others.
Let alone the ones Gu You absorbed—each was exceptionally rare and precious. And both hundred-thousand-year soul beasts he acquired were believed to be extinct.
Just the word extinct, combined with a hundred-thousand-year level, inflated their worth countless times over.
If placed in the Federation's top-tier museums, they would be considered priceless treasures. Even if you offered more than four trillion credits, you still wouldn't be able to buy them.
But Gu You's total fortune barely exceeded one hundred million—he couldn't even afford the down payment.
There was only one solution. After a moment of thought, Gu You found the answer.
'That card I gave Na'er before… I'll have to borrow from the Federation's money through that.'
It wasn't the most righteous solution—but right now, it was the only one.
"Sigh, looks like you can't pay it back." Leng Yaozhu smiled slightly. Gu You's distressed expression had her laughing inside.
"Let's make it easier on you. I'll give you a three-hundred-year deadline. No interest."
...
Gu You nodded in agony. He had been planning to start his own faction.
Now, even his startup capital was gone. He was four trillion in debt—he might as well throw himself into a ditch.
"We're doomed. Boss is officially in debt," Xu Xiaoyan whispered to the others.
None of them had left yet. After all, they came as a group—they had to leave as a group too.
"I heard it loud and clear. Four trillion!" Xie Xie whistled. "Let's stay out of this. Even if we combined all our assets and multiplied them by a hundred, it still wouldn't be enough."
Three hundred years?
Gu You relaxed a little. 'That should be enough time...'
But then the thought struck him—he'd be working to pay it off for three hundred years. His mind nearly snapped.
Normal people—heck, even normal Soul Masters—would never live that long.
But as long as a Soul Master reached the Title Douluo level, they'd have a minimum lifespan of three hundred years. After reaching Rank 93, each level granted another hundred years, capping at a thousand years.
Even if Gu You didn't break through to Title Douluo, his bloodline and divine energy, combined with the blessing of the Child of Life, guaranteed at least three centuries of life.
After leaving the Spirit Pagoda, Xie Xie and the others chatted and joked the whole way back.
Except Gu You and Gu Yue.
"I'm sorry."
Gu You turned and looked at her strangely.
"Sorry for what?"
"For lying to you," Gu Yue said, pursing her lips.
"Lied or not, the result's the same. But it really threw me off this time. I wasn't prepared—it felt nasty. Still, I would've taken the hundred-thousand-year soul beasts anyway. The debt was inevitable," Gu You shook his head, not taking it too seriously.
By the time they returned to the academy, it was evening. Gu You received a delivery—his battle armor's soul array engravings had been completed. It was now ready to fuse.
The entire surface of the armor was a brilliant purple-gold, perfectly suited to Gu You. It gleamed like dragon scales, exuding opulence. The soul tool arrays engraved on it were finely detailed, likely carved by a seasoned mecha artisan.
Gu You summoned the armor through his spiritual connection. From this moment on, the battle armor was part of his Martial Soul and his life.
Due to the soul array engravings exceeding the normal range for two-word armor, he wouldn't need to overhaul the structure when upgrading to three-word armor later. He would just need to improve the alloy.
This set of armor—Gu You had already decided—he would continue upgrading and using for a long time.
He even named it. The two-word name: Purple-Gold. The next two: Dragon-God.
Full name: Zi-Jin-Long-Shen — Purple-Gold Dragon-God!
He tested the flying wings of the armor and was very satisfied. Then, he flew toward the working student dorms.
Meanwhile, Gu Yue had only briefly returned to Shrek Academy before leaving again. The evening breeze was cool as she strolled out of the campus. Gu Yue was probably the student who left the Academy the most frequently—almost every day, she would go out, either to the Spirit Pagoda or on other errands.
Just outside the academy, a sleek black soul vehicle pulled up beside her. A tall man stepped out from the driver's seat and opened the door.
Gu Yue stepped inside. The car interior was covered in reddish-brown leather and light wood. The embellishments were rare metals and gemstones.
"Take me back," Gu Yue said calmly from the back seat.
"Yes, miss." The driver returned to the front and respectfully started driving.
The luxurious car merged smoothly into the traffic, quickly accelerating, yet remaining utterly quiet.
Gu Yue leaned into the plush leather seats, staring out the window at the bustle of city life. Her gaze grew distant.
'Does this vibrant world... really deserve to be destroyed?'
It wasn't clear how long had passed when the vehicle finally arrived at the Spirit Pagoda headquarters. The driver got out and opened the door for her, shielding her head as she exited.
Gu Yue walked toward the headquarters building. The driver quietly drove the vehicle off into the shadows.
She took the elevator straight to Leng Yaozhu's office.
"You're here?" Leng Yaozhu smiled. "Your mother called earlier, asking about you. She really worries about you."
If Gu You were here and heard that Gu Yue had a mother, he'd be utterly shocked.
Gu Yue smiled. "What's there to worry about? With you around, who could possibly hurt me?"
Leng Yaozhu gave her a teasing look. "Yueyue, you've learned some of my secrets, and I've learned some of yours too."
"What secrets?" Gu Yue asked curiously. Leng Yaozhu's secret was that she had another disciple, but what secret of hers had been exposed?
Leng Yaozhu chuckled. "Your recent behavior."
"What's wrong with my behavior?" Gu Yue blinked in confusion.
"You've learned to lie—especially to that brat. Did something happen between you two?"
"Nothing," Gu Yue said firmly.
"Alright, if you say so." Leng Yaozhu gently stroked Gu Yue's head. "But that boy's talent is extraordinary. If you really like him, don't wait too long. Don't end up like me."
"Let's begin," Gu Yue said, changing the subject.
"Mm." Leng Yaozhu raised a hand, and a nearby metal door quietly slid open.
Gu Yue was the first to step inside. Leng Yaozhu followed and said, "Yueyue, your cultivation has already…"
