Georgia's POV
"Georgia—baby—wait!" Nicholas dodged the last swing, his voice breaking somewhere between panic and laughter. "You might not remember, but we're going to be parents! Katie's going to be so happy!"
I covered my face with both hands, torn between laughing and crying. My body trembled, my heart… too happy for a memory I didn't even have. I don't understand what's going on deep inside me. I'm so confused!
"Georgia, breathe," Ella said, rushing to my side, her hand clutching mine. "It's okay. You're safe. Just breathe, okay?"
But I couldn't. The room felt like it was collapsing in on me.
And yet, everyone was smiling—crying, celebrating—as if this was the best thing that ever happened.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to wake up and realize this was some twisted dream, a hallucination caused by my fall or the medication they gave me.
But the pain in my chest was too real. The pounding in my temples too loud. The warmth of Ella's hand gripping mine too tangible.
