A's attacks came in an endless flurry.
As he leapt again and again, Obito could only glimpse flashes of lightning filling the sky.
Once more the strike pierced through Obito's body. A suddenly twisted his frame, following up with a crushing elbow aimed straight at him.
Uchiha Yōwan's coordinated assault followed right after.
Obito's five senses were thrown into disarray again, the scene before his eyes turning twisted and distorted.
But the activation of Kamui wasn't affected. A's elbow still phased harmlessly through Obito's body.
A forced himself to stop the momentum and turned his head toward Obito, already beginning to analyze his opponent's ability in his mind.
Yōwan also watched Obito with caution, having already formed a rough idea about his powers.
Obito, for his part, was also scrutinizing the two of them curiously.
But since Yōwan's dōjutsu was still active, what Obito saw remained warped and strange.
One thing was clear though—Yōwan's ability should affect friend and foe alike. Yet judging from A's movements, his partner seemed completely unaffected.
Only now did Obito find the presence of mind to study A's attire more carefully.
Even though A's figure appeared inverted and upside down in Obito's distorted vision, he could just make out his outfit.
Glasses. A was wearing a pair with orange lenses across his face.
Could it be—
"His dōjutsu seems to let his body become intangible, letting him avoid the damage we deal to him. And your dōjutsu doesn't prevent him from using his ability."
Recalling the feel of his earlier strike, A muttered his deduction about Obito's Sharingan.
"Then isn't that basically invincible?"
Yōwan frowned, finding Obito's ability extremely troublesome.
If only I'd killed that idiot back when we were kids.
As the memory of his childhood encounter came back, Yōwan unconsciously squeezed his thighs together.
His little movement caught A's attention, but A only assumed it was from nerves about Obito's ability.
"What are you so nervous for? No matter how powerful a dōjutsu is, it has its weaknesses. Didn't you say before that using a Mangekyō Sharingan puts an immense burden on its wielder?"
A cracked his knuckles, ready to take the simplest, most brute-force approach to eliminate Obito.
"Let's just keep attacking. Sooner or later, we'll catch the moment when his eye power runs dry."
His reasoning was sound, and Yōwan found himself agreeing.
Yes, unless it was the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, every wielder eventually risked losing their sight.
The only reason he could use his eyes so recklessly was because of the transplanted Hashirama cells sustaining him.
But that idiot Obito? He knew full well all of Obito's close relatives were dead—there was no way he could obtain another Mangekyō to replace his.
Even if they didn't manage to finish Obito off completely this time, if his ocular power was spent, he'd no longer be able to meddle in their affairs.
With that thought, Yōwan accepted A's plan.
"Heh. Since that's the case, let's give this uninvited guest a proper welcome. At the very least, we can't let down that person's expectations."
As Yōwan's words fell, A once again charged forward, like an arrow loosed from the bowstring, straight at Obito.
Facing the renewed offensive, Obito sneered, shifting into a defensive stance.
"Let's end this game of playing house right here."
The declaration sent a strange jolt of unease through A's heart.
Could his analysis have been wrong? Was Obito's dōjutsu not limited to simply evading attacks?
Yōwan's eyes widened too, intent on seeing just what Obito was about to do.
The next second—
Obito's figure vanished.
The intel he had gathered was already more than enough—not only that Yōwan was hiding in Amegakure, but that the Fourth Raikage himself was siding with him.
With that knowledge secured, Obito had no reason to remain.
So he slipped directly into Kamui's dimension.
The only thing that lingered in his mind was Yōwan's last words.
That person… who was he referring to?
A, his arm still extended mid-air, stared at the spot where Obito had disappeared.
Such a large intruder, vanishing right before his eyes without leaving a single trace.
It made him instinctively think of his sworn enemy—Namikaze Minato.
"Flying Thunder God Jutsu?"
He turned back toward Yōwan, hoping for an answer.
"Doesn't seem like it. If he could use the Flying Thunder God, he should've left some kind of trace."
Yōwan immediately denied A's suspicion, slowly pacing toward the spot where Obito had disappeared.
"Still, one thing's certain—this place isn't safe anymore. Our location's been exposed."
...
"Not only Ōtsutsuki Kaguya descended?"
In a dimly lit room, Danzō fixed his one good eye on the subordinate kneeling before him, clutching the intel just handed to him.
"Judging from the clues in the ruins, we believe it's highly possible."
The subordinate's voice remained calm, unshaken by Danzō's presence, simply reporting the fact.
One Ōtsutsuki was already troublesome enough. And now there might be two?
Worse—this one seemed to be lurking in the shinobi world itself.
This revelation completely shattered Danzō's prior plans.
It was already too late to try rallying and unifying the shinobi world against such a threat. The only faint silver lining was that this Ōtsutsuki had shown no sign of resurfacing for centuries—it seemed even they were waiting for something.
"What does Orochimaru think of this matter?"
"Part of the tablet deciphering was his work as well."
The subordinate's answer confirmed that Orochimaru agreed with the interpretation.
"Tell him—certain projects need to be accelerated. Funding won't be an issue. I'll provide subsidies through secret channels. Some of the sealed-off labs will also be reopened for his use."
The severity of the intelligence was enough that Danzō had no mood to quibble over restrictions on Orochimaru. Instead, he decided to add his own support atop what the village already granted him.
"Should this be reported to the Fifth-sama?"
"Not just to the Fifth. Notify the other higher-ups as well. We can't afford to treat these visitors from beyond the stars as a distant threat any longer."
Leaning on his cane, Danzō moved for the door, his pace faster than usual.
"Go summon them. Tell them I have urgent matters to report."
As the door slowly swung open, the subordinate who had delivered the report vanished the instant the light touched his form.
"Danzō-sama?"
From the kitchen came Haku's voice. He had turned at the sound of movement, spotting Danzō seemingly heading out.
"How did you do in the Chūnin Exams?"
Nominally, Haku was still his son. So before leaving, Danzō at least asked after his progress.
"Kimimaro and I have both advanced successfully. We're preparing for the solo matches next week."
"Is that so? Well done. I won't be home for lunch today."
With a faint smile, Danzō strode quickly out the door, cane tapping at his side.
