Chapter 281 - Chapter 281: Defense Counterattack II

The Temple's first priority was protecting the archives, the younglings, the library, and anything else of significant value within the sacred halls.

The remaining Jedi had their lightsabers drawn, fighting back with tremendous force against such a blatant assault on their holy sanctuary.

At present, Jedi Master Windu was entering the Temple's hangar bay when Saesee Tiin approached him.

"Master Windu, enemy starships continue emerging from hyperspace. Our forces are holding, but... they need reinforcement."

Mace simply narrowed his eyes as he approached his starfighter.

"Take to the skies and assume command."

They boarded their respective fighters, and Mace spoke with his fellow Jedi Master.

"May the Force be with you."

"And with you," Saesee Tiin replied firmly as the cockpit sealed behind them.

Two starfighters launched, followed closely by multiple Delta-7s, ARC-170s, and Y-wing bombers.

As they took to the air, the large strike force quickly divided.

One group, led by Master Windu, was tasked with defending the city.

The remainder fell under Master Tiin's command to reinforce the orbital fleet.

Windu began engaging multiple drones flying alongside a stream of hybrid starfighters entering Coruscant's atmosphere.

The Jedi Master flew at maximum speed, his squadron either maintaining close formation or breaking off to pursue separate targets.

All around them, a desperate battle raged.

From his peripheral vision, Windu noticed the Senate building under heavy attack.

"Odd Ball, do you copy?" Mace transmitted through his comm.

"Yes, sir."

"Take Red Squadron and defend the Senate building," Windu ordered.

"Immediately, sir."

Dozens of fighters peeled away from Windu's formation and streaked directly toward the Senate complex.

Even as he issued the command, Mace's starboard wing burst into flames.

"General Windu!" one of the clone pilots called out in alarm.

"Don't worry about me, Rizz," Windu replied firmly. "Focus on the fight. I'll manage."

Eventually, through considerable effort, he regained temporary control of his craft and maneuvered around, destroying several enemy fighters.

Unfortunately, he soon encountered a swarm of drones.

As his ship began spinning violently, he leaped from the cockpit and dove toward one of the enemy fighters.

Landing on its hull, he steadied himself and thrust his lightsaber through the craft's armor. He grasped an exposed wire and channeled the Force through it, attempting to gain temporary control.

A clone was piloting a fighter and firing at surrounding enemies.

"We've got three on our tail—no, wait, four."

"Shake them off," his gunner shouted.

The gunner complied, but as he fired at their pursuers, he noticed something unusual.

"One of them isn't behaving like the others," the gunner observed. "Wait—there's someone riding that—"

The enemy fighter swooped nearby, and with a flash of purple light, several aerial drones were cleaved apart. Soon, it flew close to the clone fighter.

"It's General Windu!"

The Jedi looked toward the pilot, pointed ahead, and the clone nodded in understanding.

Below, in another sector of Coruscant, Anakin fought with fierce determination, surrounded by his second-in-command Rex and the 501st Legion, joined by Masters Plo Koon and Quinlan Vos.

Commanders Wolffe and Bacara also fought alongside them with their respective battalions.

In the skies above, Sam and Hope engaged in high-altitude combat to relieve pressure on ground forces as drones streamed in from all directions.

Natasha fought alongside Luminara and Aayla Secura.

Matt, wielding his electrified billy clubs thanks to Stark's suit upgrades, battled beside Commander Gree of the 41st Elite Corps.

And Scott...

"Alright," he muttered from his shrunken state, detaching a drone's head. "Can't do what I did last time. I'll use half power for giant-size."

Examining his wrist controls, Scott made adjustments and raised his left hand.

"Everyone!" he shouted into the comm for all to hear. "Clear the area!"

He pressed the activation button.

Scott instantly expanded to giant size, crushing dozens of machines in the process.

"Let's do this!" Scott bellowed, his voice echoing across the battlefield as he swept his arms in wide arcs, batting away dozens more drones.

The clones cheered enthusiastically upon seeing the oversized Avenger, while the Jedi sighed with relief.

Scott's transformation provided a brief respite as the drones redirected their attention to the giant hero decimating their ranks.

"Not as large as he was against the Zillo Beast or on Geonosis, but he's doing fine," Hope commented while fighting, her stingers firing at Ultron drones throughout the engagement.

The miniaturized hero flew down and landed on Rex's shoulder.

"Captain Rex," Hope said, getting the captain's attention.

"What is it, Hope?"

"Throw a thermal detonator—I have an idea," Hope said, adjusting her wrist controls.

Rex nodded, trusting the Avenger's plan without question, and he pulled out a grenade and hurled it at an approaching drone swarm.

Targeting her wrist device, she fired a small disc that struck the explosive, causing it to expand to the size of a speeder.

"Boom—"

When the smoke cleared, a massive crater had formed, with various drone components raining from the sky. Many attempted to recover but were quickly eliminated by Republic firepower.

Slowly overcoming his amazement, Rex could only voice the thoughts that immediately came to mind.

"...So that's what Ant-Man's giant form looks like."

"Stay focused!" Hope urged.

"Right, sorry," Rex said, preparing additional grenades.

Elsewhere, Master Yoda stood atop a pile of metallic debris, facing an incoming wave of drones.

Yoda positioned himself before them with unwavering resolve, calling upon the Force for aid, allowing it to flow through every fiber of his being.

Taking a measured breath, the diminutive Jedi Master raised his hand, slightly curving three fingers, his eyes intensely focused.

Soon, a swarm of Ultron drones was lifted into the air and destroyed as they collided with aerial fighters.

Observing this, Yoda clenched his fist tightly, and all the metal debris caught in his Force grip coalesced into an enormous sphere, collecting hundreds of additional drones. He drew his arm back and thrust forward, launching the metallic sphere into the oncoming wave of Ultron forces.

Though the area was momentarily cleared of Ultron drones, Yoda observed these mechanical enemies continuously emerging from all directions.

From appearances, they were either flying out of Coruscant's lower levels or simply bursting through floors and buildings.

How was this possible?

"Thank you for your assistance," a Coruscant Guard shouted gratefully, breaking the Jedi from his contemplation.

Yoda simply nodded firmly as they continued holding the line and attempting to advance.

"We are losing ground in Sector Four. I repeat, we are losing ground in Sector Four."

Hearing this transmission, Yoda spotted a nearby speeder with several clones beside it.

He leaped aboard and quickly instructed a nearby trooper to take him to Sector Four, and the soldier immediately complied.
