Yun Jin had already sent a discreet message to Ji Wusi and the others earlier, warning them that something unusual might happen at Tianxing Sect. They should be on their way now.
That cocoon was beyond her means. Yun Jin figured the Holy Land might have a way to deal with it. If the Demon Sovereign really did resurrect, that was fine too.
She'd just kill him again.
Yun Jin glanced at Yang Yun's Luck panel.
After this incident, Yang Yun's Luck had dropped straight to 67. One more misstep and it would fall below 60. That meant Yun Jin could now claim two more rewards.
But she wasn't in a rush to collect them yet.
She was still pondering.
Even in this situation, Yang Yun's Luck remained surprisingly high. There was a good chance more chaos would unfold down the line.
Could it be…
Even after everything, he might still find a way to escape?
Yun Jin honestly looked forward to seeing just how far the male lead halo could go.
The cultivators from the Demon-Slaying Alliance still seemed hesitant.
Yun Jin smiled gently and took out a recording stone. "Everything that happened earlier has been recorded. Seniors, feel free to review it at your leisure."
A recording stone. That made things much easier.
They instinctively reached out to take it.
Yun Jin turned and instructed the lava dragon to keep watch over the cocoon. Yang Yun must not be allowed to escape.
The rest of the Tianxing Sect disciples began tidying up the battlefield. In no time, the area became organized and orderly.
The Demon-Slaying Alliance cultivators stood there, bewildered.
For once, they were completely at a loss.
Since joining the Demon-Slaying Alliance, they had always been the ones calling the shots wherever they went. But here at Tianxing Sect, aside from being stunned speechless, it seemed like they hadn't been needed at all.
That little girl had already arranged everything.
"Shall we take a look at the recording?" someone suggested.
The one holding the stone nodded. They hadn't expected that such a small sect as Tianxing Sect would experience such a dramatic ordeal in one night.
When the recording showed the lava dragon taking action,
Everyone instinctively turned to look at Lao Huo.
This simple-looking, slightly goofy man was actually a super spirit beast? And his combat strength was terrifying.
Lao Huo grinned and gave them a warm, toothy smile. Under normal circumstances, that smile would've looked kind.
But recalling how he had just casually swatted down Mahayana-stage demons like they were ants, a chill crept down their spines. This kind of terrifying existence was now obediently listening to that little girl, quietly guarding a cocoon without complaint.
"Do you think... that really is the Demon Sovereign inside?" someone whispered.
"Hard to say."
"Let's interrogate that Mahayana-stage demon first."
"Who's going to do the questioning?"
Everyone looked at each other.
Yun Jin had said the interrogation would be left to the Demon-Slaying Alliance. But that demon was still under Tianxing Sect's watch. They clearly had no intention of handing him over just yet.
And Yun Jin had also said someone else would come deal with everything. Maybe she planned to hand over the demon as well?
"That's not following protocol."
"Matters regarding the demon race should be handled by the Demon-Slaying Alliance."
"Indeed."
"So who's going to speak to her?"
Silence again.
Everyone looked in unison at the hulking man watching the cocoon.
Who would dare?
What if he just slapped someone to death?
"He can't be that violent… I'll go test the waters," said a youthful-looking cultivator with a baby face, summoning his courage.
"Lin Feng, we're counting on you," the others quickly said, backing away without hesitation.
Lin Feng gave his useless companions a tearful glance, then slowly approached Lao Huo.
Lao Huo looked up at him and bared a few small teeth.
Young Master had told him to act friendly.
Smiling was the best way to show friendliness, right?
But Lin Feng shuddered involuntarily.
"Dear heavens.
Weren't some evil spirit beasts known to eat humans?
Was this dragon one of them?"
His smile froze awkwardly, almost like he was about to cry.
He spoke softly, "Senior Dragon…"
"Yes!" Lao Huo boomed.
His voice was so loud that Lin Feng trembled again.
"What is it?" Lao Huo leaned in and asked loudly.
The booming voice was one thing. The breath that came with it was another.
The stench almost made Lin Feng faint.
So this was…
The infamous dragon breath?
In a daze, Lin Feng mumbled, "Senior Dragon, I was just wondering… you seem to really listen to that little girl."
Lao Huo sighed, "Can't exactly say no. She's my Young Master. And… my child is still in her hands."
Just thinking about his ungrateful child gave Lao Huo a headache.
Lin Feng blinked. "Your child?"
"Yeah." Lao Huo clearly didn't want to continue the topic. He looked visibly glum.
Lin Feng immediately felt a wave of sympathy. That little girl looked sweet and harmless, but who knew her methods would be so ruthless?
She even used a child to control a powerhouse like this?
"So… you're voluntarily serving Wushuang Sect as a spirit beast?" Lin Feng asked again.
Lao Huo sighed once more. "Lost a fight."
Ah, now it all made sense to Lin Feng. He patted Lao Huo's shoulder. "Don't worry. We of the Demon-Slaying Alliance stand for justice! I'll report everything that happened here. Higher-ups will be here soon. If you want out, we'll help you escape from her grasp!"
Lao Huo wasn't quite sure what he just heard.
Young Master had once said, when you don't understand something, just smile.
So he gave Lin Feng a bright, sunny grin.
Lin Feng thought Lao Huo was grateful. His heart warmed immediately.
He zipped back to the group.
"How did it go, Lin Feng?" the others asked.
"That little girl is more dangerous than she looks. And that dragon may be strong, but he's actually quite pitiful…" Lin Feng exaggerated shamelessly and launched into a dramatic tale about a poor dragon forced into servitude.
Everyone fell silent after listening.
"Wait… aren't we forgetting something?" someone finally asked coolly.
"What were you actually supposed to ask?" they pressed.
"Right. We needed to find out about the Demon Sovereign," Lin Feng replied, clearly experienced at dodging questions.
They all stared at him.
Lin Feng suddenly looked awkward.
He'd gotten so caught up in the gossip that he'd forgotten the real reason he went.
"Should I… go again?" Lin Feng suggested.
"Forget it. Any more, and we'll alert them," the team leader said. "From now on, everyone follow my lead. I'll report this situation immediately. It's a big deal, and someone from higher up will definitely come soon."
"You all help clean up the battlefield and keep an eye on the captured demon."
"They say the cocoon contains the Demon Sovereign, so leave someone here to watch it. Until higher authorities arrive, do not act on your own."
Everyone quickly voiced their agreement. The leader took a deep breath and sent a full report along with part of the recording up the chain. He knew his limits. This situation was well beyond what he could handle. All they could do now was wait for someone from the top to take over.
The battlefield was cleaned up quickly. Tianxing Sect even reopened the banquet to host the Demon-Slaying Alliance cultivators.
The guests hadn't planned to leave anyway, so they accepted the invitation with ease.
As dawn approached,
Most people were feeling pleasantly buzzed.
Streaks of light flashed across the sky.
"S-shooting stars…" Lin Feng murmured, dazed from drink.
