If a proper formation master had been present—especially one capable of reaching the level of High-grade Grandmaster—they might have been able to use the "Mind's Eye" state to identify the weak points of this formation. From there, they could combine other methods to attempt to unravel it.
However, Xiao Yan was a self-taught, half-baked formation master. Let alone the "Mind's Eye" state, he didn't even know about the prerequisite "Mind Array" state, much less use it to break a formation. But that didn't mean he was helpless—he had other methods.
He crossed his legs and sat on the endless yellow sand. His hands swiftly shifted into a series of seals, and in the next instant, a towering spiritual phantom—thousands of feet tall—materialized behind him. It was none other than Nether Heaven's Wrath, a Heaven-tier soul technique from the Dou Qi Continent. Back then, almost no one could withstand its power.
However, with his strength having risen to such heights, a Heaven-tier battle technique that once swept across countless powerhouses on the Dou Qi Continent was no longer very useful. In the Great Thousand World, Heaven-tier techniques were merely on par with Divine Arts. At the level of Lesser Earth Sovereign or higher, they were barely passable, let alone in real Sovereign-tier combat. As a result, Xiao Yan had barely used it since arriving in the Great Thousand World.
Still, while these techniques were no longer fit for direct battle due to their limited power, they could be quite useful in certain moments—like now. When the soul phantom appeared, a terrifying spiritual fluctuation surged outward, seemingly repelling the unique oppressive aura in the surroundings.
This wasn't because the technique itself was that powerful, but rather due to Xiao Yan's extremely powerful soul force. As his hand seals shifted, the enormous soul projection opened its mouth and unleashed a soul shockwave that radiated in all directions.
The soulwave spread rapidly—within moments, it had surged out tens of thousands of feet. And that was with the pressure of the Heavenly Sovereign aura holding it back; otherwise, it would've spread even farther. As the wave swept forward, the surrounding space trembled slightly.
The feedback from the soulwave returned to Xiao Yan's mind. With his deduction, the terrain of the desert began to form gradually. As the mapping grew clearer, faint white points of light began to emerge in the layout. These were the formation seals necessary for arranging the spiritual formation.
Though Xiao Yan was only a half-trained formation master, he still understood that every formation had a weakness. He didn't know exactly where the weak point was, but since formations were constructed from seals, destroying the seals would inevitably disrupt the entire structure.
Of course, the power of Nether Heaven's Wrath alone couldn't destroy these seals. After all, this technique was created in a lower realm, and unlike how Xiao Yan had reforged Demon Wrath Nine Absolutes, he hadn't modified this one. Without his terrifying soul force to back it, it wouldn't have this kind of impact—and certainly couldn't break a Grandmaster-grade formation.
Moreover, Xiao Yan hadn't expected to simply destroy the formation this easily. If taking down a Grandmaster-tier spiritual formation were that simple, formation masters of that level wouldn't command such fear and reverence.
He had only used Nether Heaven's Wrath to identify the locations of the formation seals. Much like how bats emit soundwaves to sense their surroundings, he had used soulwaves to perform a similar detection method.
Not only that, he could even analyze the feedback to discern which seals were comparatively weaker. Those weakened areas might very well be the formation's weak points.
When Xiao Yan reopened his eyes, he had already deduced the positions of the weakest formation nodes nearby. Forming a cross with his hands, a fiery storm like a tidal wave burst out from him in all directions. The sheer momentum of it rivaled some of the elemental calamities found within the Ancient Saint Abyss.
As the flame storm expanded, the surrounding space twisted like a towel being wrung out. As it destroyed the seals along its path, the spatial rifts grew deeper and deeper. Finally, with a resounding crack, the warped space shattered like glass.
Seeing this, Xiao Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he'd bet correctly.
The flame storm he had unleashed was none other than Eight Desolations Annihilation, one of the techniques within his reforged Demon Wrath Nine Absolutes. After numerous modifications by Xiao Yan, it had now become a genuine Super Divine Art. Its area of effect and raw power made it perfectly suited to destroy the formation seals.
Still, Xiao Yan knew that the seals had originally been created by a Heavenly Sovereign. Normally, they wouldn't be so easy to destroy. However, this formation was likely intended as a trial, so its difficulty didn't match that of a true Grandmaster formation. That's what had given him the opportunity.
As the space shattered, the scenery around him changed—just as he had guessed, this wasn't a desert at all but a massive hidden cave-dwelling. The desert had only been an illusion created by the formation. Any ordinary person who stumbled in would've remained oblivious to the fact that something was hidden here.
"Looks like this compass was worth the price." Xiao Yan glanced at the compass in his hand and couldn't help but grin. Without it, he would likely have never found this place. Stowing it away, he looked into the depths of the cavern.
There, at the far end, stood a stone platform made from greenstone. Atop it lay a crystal orb and several rusted iron spheres.
The rusted spheres were likely formation components. As for the crystal orb—it must be the inheritance left behind by the Heavenly Formation Elder. Xiao Yan stepped forward to retrieve it, but just as he reached out, the space around him suddenly twisted violently. Out of the distortion reached a slender hand, grasping for the orb.
"Where did this rat come from? Sneaking around like a coward." Xiao Yan sneered coldly, curling two fingers. A brilliant flame coated his fingertips as he struck toward the hand. At the moment of impact, a terrifying surge of spiritual energy exploded outward, shattering the space once again. As it did, the figure hiding in the shadows was forced to reveal themselves.
It was a woman clad in white. Her figure was graceful, and her face could only be described as stunning—truly beautiful enough to overthrow nations. But to Xiao Yan, anyone who tried to steal from him was already a corpse, regardless of how they looked.
"Who are you?" he demanded.
"Qing Yanjing of the Ancient Buddha Clan," the woman said calmly. In her palm, a crystalline pagoda appeared, exuding a sacred, radiant aura.
