Chapter 423 - Sometimes You Can Do Everything Right and Still Not Make It

Gelda said, "Yo, Liebe, so how have you been? I heard a lot of things. The capital is basically on fire right now because of you, and like, it's weird. And let me start by saying your mom is an idiot—a total dumbass. She might as well be running for the dumbest person alive, am I right?"

Liebe said, "Please just don't say that."

Gelda said, "Which part?"

Liebe said, "My mom part."

Gelda said, "Alright then. No matter what you say, that's a factor that can't be changed."

As Liebe sat down with his hands covering his face:

Liebe said, "I know. I just don't know anymore. Where did I go wrong? Why couldn't I be a good son? Why could it just be us?"

Gelda said, "Yeah, an idiot, am I right? Told ya. Top 3 dumbasses I have ever seen."

Liebe said, "Yeah, yeah, I know. But Gelda, I want to know something."

Gelda said, "Alright, feel free to ask, my dear student. Feel free to ask your great, great favourite teacher for some wisdom."

Hearing Gelda's words, despite everything, Liebe actually laughed—a decent, small laugh.

Liebe said, "Gelda, what is my sin? What could I not do?"

Gelda said, "You sleep around too much."

Liebe said, "It isn't that much. Just when I'm stressed. So like 45 people a month."

Gelda said, "Well, here you have your answer."

Liebe said, "Wait, how are these two things even related?"

Gelda said, "They aren't."

Liebe said, "I thought you said 'feel free to ask'?"

Gelda said, "Yeah, feel free to ask. I didn't say I was going to answer."

Liebe said, "Damn."

Gelda said, "But for your question—'what is your sin?'—there is none. The sad truth is, sometimes you can do everything right and still not make it. But you did it all. Grew stronger. Never stopped looking at Lilith. In fact, it is because of you the Faust Estate still belongs to Lilith."

Liebe said, "Now you may be just exaggerating a bit."

Gelda said, "I really am not. You seriously have no idea how dumb she is when it comes to math and money. She literally only graduated by copying all my papers, OK?"

Liebe said, "There, there, Gelda. Don't cry."

Gelda said, "Thanks, Liebe."

Liebe said, "So how long have you been holding that fact in?"

Gelda said, "A long, long while."

Liebe said, "Now I feel bad for you."

Gelda said, "I won't defend Lilith. What she did can't be forgiven. But the thing is, you know better than anyone how dumb she is. And that night—what happened—it shattered you two, and it was out of your control. You lost basically everything after the attack in Baledia, and it must have hurt. I mean, you have basically been running for the past 3 days on pain, so you yourself weren't in the state to scream at the moment. Specially since Gaia was running away from you and you didn't have the words. Some will call you weak for not standing your ground that night and screaming at Lilith and telling her the truth. And honestly, even I believe you should have yelled at her. But what you did—running away—was the bravest thing. Choosing Gaia, choosing your friend, over proving your innocence. I'm proud of you for that. You did the right thing. You and Lilith aren't the same, and that night you proved it. That I raised you right, alright. No matter what happens, you have to be the one to keep believing in the future, alright? And right now, your life may be full of wounds that may turn to scars, but perhaps a future exists out there where your scars can fade."

Liebe said, "Yeah. Maybe in a far away future. I just want to see a future—a life where this filth of a blood of half-breed doesn't flow through me. Maybe then—I just wish I wasn't separated by this darkness."

Gelda said, "Yeah, yeah. We all know the Faust stories: 'A child with darkness can never see the light.' But you are different. Look at your team. They are all dumbasses and people hated by many, yet it all changes because of you all. I'm saying is, you have run enough. It's perhaps time you took some time to look around."

Liebe said, "Alright then."

Gelda said, "Great. Now I can get you married soon, then take your wife on your next mission."

Liebe said, "That may be a bit much. The word 'love' can't exist in my life."

Gelda said, "Come on, that's not true. I mean, I'm here, and so is your team, and everyone."

Liebe said, "Maybe."

As Gelda was about to leave, she said, "Liebe, I'm sorry for what your mom did to you."

Liebe said, "It's OK. What Mom did—it hurts. That moment is a scar I can't forget. And that battle left scars that will remain in my mind and body forever. But I want to make one where these scars are my strength. Even if mentally, I hope they can fade from my heart."

Gelda said, "It appears you have grown stronger already."

Liebe said, "Seems so."

As Gelda left:

Liebe said, "Guess it's time. Dark Magic: Dark Heal."
