Chapter 126 - Dragons makes an Appearance

The magisters felt a chill crawling up their spines. Beads of cold sweat had formed on their foreheads and their backs.

Something dangerous was about to happen. Their instincts were blazing, warning them. Expressions of fright appeared on the faces of the magisters. They could not understand what was happening. Their eyes were focused on Rhaenys hoping to make something out of the situation.

But then they heard it. It was as if a loud gust of wind was rushing toward them. Their ears perked up. And then it finally happened. A moment later, a massive shadow loomed over them.

All the magisters craned their necks to look upward. They had not even registered what was happening when something came crashing down toward them. The magisters were forced back a couple of steps by the sheer pressure of the gust of air that struck them. They felt something massive cross over their heads.

But it was not the force pushing them back that shocked them. In front of their wide and horrified eyes, a massive and enormous claw seized the chief priest, above his waist. And then like a twig being snapped into two, half of his body was torn apart before the claw took off again.

A loud howl of agony was heard from the chief priest's mouth before it felt dim and distant.

What remained was the lower half of the chief priest, everything below his waist. Blood splattered from the severed torso as the leftover body staggered a couple of steps before collapsing on the ground.

The magisters were terrified and shocked to their core. Their eyes followed the claws that had ripped apart their fellow colleague and what they witnessed left them even more frightened. The fear and horror they were feeling was not something they had felt ever in their life. Their already wide eyes somehow widened even further.

It was a massive creature, scaled in deep green. It was so big that they could not comprehend. With each flap of its wind, it was raising dust and producing a gust of wind. It was no ordinary bird.

Above the walls, every soldier had been equally terrified to their core. The bows had slid off their hands and their chest was thumping loudly against their heart. How close they had been to their death? It could have been them in the claws of that creature in place of the chief priest.

The magisters could still see their colleague wriggling within the creature's grasp. Not only that, a trail had formed beneath it as the internal organs of the chief priest rained down from above when the creature had flown higher.

"Dra… Dragon…" one of the magisters mumbled in pure disbelief.

No other magister responded. They could see the obvious right in front of them. They could see the massive dragon circling above in the air.

Their eyes were glued to the dragon. Despite the intense chill clanking up their spines and the immense pressure buckling their knees, they could not tear their gaze away from the creature. A living dragon. They could not believe it.

The dragon finally began its descent. Its massive wings flapped as it landed a short distance behind Rhaenys with a loud thud. The earth shook under its massive weight.

The green scaled dragon placed the body of the chief priest on the ground. Then it raised its claw and brought it crashing down on the corpse.

A massive thud echoed through the dead silence as the earth rumbled. As the claw came crashing against the corpse, the dragon let out a loud, sharp screech, the vibration of which the magisters felt through their bodies. The screech echoed across the surroundings, and certainly the residents of the city must have heard it too.

Blood splattered as the entire body of the chief priest was turned into a mangled piece of flesh. The magisters stepped back a couple more steps in horror. The chill in their spine was increasing with each moment. They had gotten goosebumps in their body out of fright and their hearts were beating frantically.

They understood very well that if they had been the ones to challenge the lady, this would have been their fate. They could only bless their luck that they were not as arrogant and loud-mouthed as the chief priest. They had survived, at least for these few moments. They could only pray for their survival.

No one could now tell that the gruesome, mangled flesh had once been one of the most influential and powerful men of Qohor. The chief priest. Crushed into that state in a matter of moments.

The magisters continued to stare at the dragon. Their eyes kept darting between Rhaenys and the beast.

Rhaenys let them be. She continued to remain seated on her horse, a little smirk creeping on her face. She was certainly having her fun. She was enjoying these moments.

She knew they needed a few moments to process everything they had witnessed in mere seconds.

And even more was about to come.

One of the magisters was about to say something, probably ask something, when it happened again. Four more massive shadows loomed over their heads.

They craned their necks once more, and whatever shock they had recovered from was swept away, replaced by an even deeper, bone chilling horror. Four more of these creatures, four more dragons, were flying overhead.

And the one that had crushed the chief priest, the one already on the ground, was the smallest of the five. One was equal in size, another slightly larger, while the remaining two were vastly larger. And the largest of them, pitch black in colour, colossal beyond belief.

These dragons too circled in the air before descending towards the ground. As their massive claws struck the earth, they opened their maws and unleashed simultaneous, deafening screeches, including the green scaled dragon already on the ground.

The echoes of the screeches were so powerful that the magisters felt as though they were being physically pushed forward. Their throats went dry with burning fear, their knees nearly buckling under the sheer pressure.

They continued staring at the five dragons, and Rhaenys again gave them a few moments to recover from their shock.

"Gentlemen," she said, snapping them out of their daze as their gazes returned to her.
