Nick Fury's words were harsh, but they were effective. No matter how dense the representatives were, they couldn't ignore the clear evidence he had provided. Fury had already shown proof of Superman entering the sun.
Over the last few days, multiple nations had also reported that sunlight reaching Earth had become noticeably weaker, a phenomenon they had initially dismissed as a natural occurrence, but was now confirmed to be Superman's doing.
"I understand, Director Fury. I will report this information truthfully to the Emperor," the Russian representative said first. "I believe the Russian military will act swiftly. Thank you for sharing this news." With that, he abruptly ended the call.
He was clearly going to report the information. Unlike the United States, which had tried to leverage Fury's spy organization for its own purposes, the Eastern superpower had directly established its own.
Russia, in a more neutral position, viewed Fury's organization simply as a special information source. Now that they had what they needed, there was no reason to stay on the line.
Russia's decisive action influenced the other three representatives. The British and French representatives both stated they would report the intelligence before also hanging up. The U.S. representative was the last to make the same choice.
With four other nations now convinced, he couldn't afford to remain skeptical. If Superman's claims were just a bluff, it would be a minor embarrassment.
But if they were true, the disaster would hit American soil first, and he would be a sinner for having ignored the warning. He could not bear that responsibility.
"But Director Fury, I hope you realize you are also accountable for the truth of this news."
"I am not you. I won't shirk my responsibilities," Fury retorted.
After being chastised again, the American representative angrily hung up. As soon as the call ended, Fury slumped into the car seat and turned to Agent Coulson.
"Coulson, have Hawkeye and Black Widow lead all agents to New York. I have a feeling there will be serious damage there, and Superman's family is in the city. We have to protect them."
Humans who couldn't even fully resolve the mutant crisis had no chance against a grieving Superman who had lost his family. For the sake of humanity itself, Superman's family had to be protected at all costs.
A Clash of Titans
On the isolated island, now leveled by the battle between Magneto and Superman, only Clark and Phoenix remained.
"Thank you for your hard work, Jean," Clark said with a gentle smile. He wasn't addressing the Phoenix controlling her body, but the subconscious Jean Grey who was trying to suppress it.
Others couldn't perceive it, but Clark could see that the Phoenix had wanted to attack him the moment he appeared. Jean, fearing she would harm her X-Men companions and innocent people, had been fighting to maintain control of her body, leaving the Phoenix too preoccupied to attack immediately.
"But leave it to me now," Clark continued.
As he spoke, the Phoenix seemed to lose its restraint and slowly floated into the air. A golden phoenix flame wrapped around her, radiating an intense pressure. Jean had chosen to trust Clark and had stopped fighting for control, instead gathering her strength in her subconscious.
There was no more communication. With a defiant cry, the Phoenix launched its attack. Her body, wreathed in golden flames, rushed forward and collided with Clark.
The powerful impact instantly caused the island to sink, generating a massive tsunami that swept toward the surrounding cities.
But the next moment, the towering wave was shattered. Clark's shadowy figure and the Phoenix's fiery form moved and collided so fast in the air that in less than a second, they had struck each other over a thousand times.
This rapid-fire combat dispersed the giant tsunami, discreetly averting a crisis for the coastal cities.
But this was only the beginning. The two continued to clash violently in the air, and the force of their impacts shattered every pane of glass in the nearby city. After one particularly powerful collision, they were sent flying backward, smashing through several buildings before soaring into the sky.
"Everyone, start the rescue!" the X-Men in the city shouted, reacting quickly. But as they prepared to help, they discovered something strange: the destroyed buildings were completely empty.
Instead, confused civilians were standing safely on the ground nearby. It was then they realized Clark must have rescued everyone before the buildings were hit.
The battle raged on. The Phoenix hit Clark with a ball of golden flame, sending him flying across the Atlantic Ocean, from the United States all the way to London.
He crashed into St. Paul's Cathedral, demolishing it completely. In the smoke and rubble, Clark slowly got to his feet, punching upward to meet the Phoenix's descending fist.
The fragile ground absorbed the impact instead of him, causing deep fissures to radiate from the church's ruins, stretching for over a thousand meters and causing everything around them to collapse. The British government was caught completely off guard by the destruction.
"Damn it!" Clark gritted his teeth, using the force of the Phoenix's attack to pull her toward the ground. She was sent hurtling into the earth, and in that moment, Clark vanished.
The immense shockwave affected all of London. Clark, a black blur of speed, moved between cities, rescuing endangered citizens and placing them in a safe place. This all happened in a flash, and ordinary people didn't even realize it was happening. But for the Phoenix, it was the perfect opportunity to attack.
The moment Clark completed his rescue, the Phoenix's attack followed. Struck head-on by the flames once more, Clark was sent backward again, this time crashing into the English Channel and arriving in France.
The entire strait that separated Britain and France was split apart, revealing the seafloor that connected the two countries. It took several seconds for the separated sea to slowly fill the massive gap.
It was only then that people truly realized how powerful the Superman they had grown accustomed to was—a being so mighty he seemed to belong to another dimension.
