Tony's plan was simple: hire international mercenaries, arm them with Stark weapons, and use them to destroy a terrorist organization. It sounded like a fantasy, especially because the Ten Rings were no ordinary group.
This was an organization with the power to destabilize a small nation and stand against a small US military force. Yet, Tony spoke as if they were a nuisance he could wipe out with the snap of his fingers.
Clark knew Tony wasn't just being arrogant. Stark Industries truly had the capability to do this. As America's largest defense contractor, they didn't just research new equipment; they produced a significant portion of the US military's weapons.
In a way, Stark Industries could arm an army the size of a small country's, provided they didn't have to worry about the cost. This fact was the very foundation of Tony's character and confidence.
Clark had already anticipated this plan. So when Tony laid it out, he didn't hesitate. "Do you need any help from Parker Industries? Financially?"
He only offered financial assistance, knowing that without access to Kryptonian technology, Parker Industries couldn't compete with Stark's arms production.
"I'm not short on money, you know," Tony replied. "And the shareholders won't object to my idea." Tony had been attacked three times in one day. Destroying a terrorist organization was not an overreaction.
Even if it had a negative impact, they could simply cooperate with the US government. Since Stark was willing to give up its own interests to contribute, there was no reason for the government to refuse an opportunity to gain international renown.
Still, Clark wanted to help. "If you really want to help, then provide me with some of your ultra-high-tensile steel at a lower price. I have an idea that needs your company's materials, but your steel is currently out of stock."
Ultra-high-tensile steel was a new material developed by Parker Industries that Tony highly valued. However, because of the massive demand from various countries, Parker Industries didn't have enough to sell to private companies like Stark.
"Understood," Tony said, surprised by Clark's suggestion. "I'll provide Stark Industries with a large amount of ultra-high-tensile steel at cost price during this time."
"You actually have inventory? Has your company expanded again?" Tony asked. He was just making conversation and didn't expect Parker Industries to have a surplus.
Clark simply tilted his head, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Didn't you say it yourself? I'm a 'natural capitalist saint.'"
Tony slapped his hand over his face. He'd forgotten that with the way Parker Industries operated under Clark's leadership, their expansion was constant and rapid.
"Alright, it's a deal then," Tony said. "Maybe in a few years, after I work out some technical kinks, we might actually see a real-life Gundam. The Arc Reactor for energy and your ultra-high-tensile steel for a basic materialâit could be a reality, not just a fantasy."
But that was a thought for the future. The immediate focus was on the damn Ten Rings.
The plan was set, and the next step was getting it approved by Stark Industries' board of shareholders. As Tony predicted, it wasn't difficult. The shareholders knew that Stark's success was built on Howard's legacy and Tony's genius.
Now that their golden goose was angry, they didn't want to lose him. Under Tony's insistence, they reluctantly agreed. Hiring mercenaries to take on a terrorist group would be expensive, but losing Tony would cost them far more. They could see the clear financial risk.
With everyone on board, the plan moved forward quickly. The US government was brought in and a deal was struck. International mercenaries would do the fighting, Stark Industries would provide the money and weapons under the US government's banner, and everyone would get what they wanted.
The mercenaries got paid, Stark Industries earned public goodwill while Tony got his revenge, and the US government gained international prestige. It seemed like a perfect plan.
But they all overlooked one crucial detail: the true power of the Ten Rings. Both the US government and Stark Industries seemed to assume the Ten Rings were nothing more than a band of amateurs, not worth worrying about at all.
As the plan went into motion, Clark returned to Parker Industries to handle his corporate duties. Meanwhile, a car with an A.I.M. logo pulled up to Obadiah Stane's house. Obadiah walked outside to meet the man in black.
"Have you brought everything we need?" the man asked.
Obadiah nodded and took a stack of papers from his coat. For this operation, Tony had provided a large number of new weapons, built with the new materials from Parker Industries. All this information had to pass through the Stark Industries database. As Tony's trusted second-in-command, Obadiah had easy access, and his actions would never be discovered.
"It's all here," Obadiah said, handing over the files. "But are you sure this is enough? I want Tony to fail as much as you do, but I have to admit he's a genius. And now he has the support of Parker Industries."
The man in black just sneered. "A genius? Perhaps. But the world is full of them, and Tony Stark is just one. In our eyes, the boy from Parker Industries is a bigger threat, but he's not the target of this operation." With that, he got into the car and started the engine. "Just do your job, and leave the rest to us."
