Mira's POV
I paused. I couldn't hide anything from Roxy. I never could.
Roxy added, "Don't look so turned. I'm aware you're familiar with that man. His whole vibe gives it away, no matter how hard he pretends."
My fingers found the crescent moon necklace hidden beneath my shirt. I clutched it tight. I didn't want Roxy to get involved. She was no match for him. Even knowing she came from a powerful family… I couldn't risk her. Dave had deceived my own family. He was that good.
I looked at Roxy and forced the words out. "Yes. Dave and I know each other. He's my ex-mate."
Roxy's eyes widened.
"I rejected the bond," I continued, my voice flat. "But it seems he doesn't want to get over it."
"What was the reason?" Roxy asked, her tone sharpening. "Did he cheat?"
I almost laughed. A bitter, hollow sound stuck in my throat. I wished that was the reason. "No," I said, looking away. "It's more personal than that. It's… not something I want to share."
