The heavy door of the private study in the Valerius mansion clicked shut, sealing the six of us inside. The space was all clean lines, soft grey upholstery,
charged with the shock that hadn't faded since last night.
My brothers and I stood near the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, the sprawling, manicured grounds of the estate spread out below us like a forbidden map. The daylight felt too bright, too revealing.
On the opposite side of the room, sunk into a low, modern sofa, were Mira and Roxy. They looked smaller than I remembered, not in stature but in spirit, dwarfed by the plush cushions and the weight of the last twenty-four hours.
Since the moment the cameras had panned and I'd seen their faces in the crowd, my mind had been a frantic, hopeful storm. Eleanor was with them. if Mira and Roxy were here, then Eleanor, must be nearby.
