Eleanor's POV
My father's expression was pure murder. I could feel the hatred and suspicion rolling off him in waves. But it was the Patriarch's face that held my attention. He didn't look intrigued or impressed. He gave me a look of familiarity.
As if I'd just confirmed a long-held suspicion which I am not aware of.
"You must be very stupid," my father spat, his composure cracking, "to think I would just let you waltz into the heart of our business. I see you for exactly what you are. You've 'changed' overnight. You 'accept' your fate. It's a transparent ploy. You want us to lower our guard so you can burn everything this family has worked for to the ground. I've seen it before. I've dealt with people who act just like you. They did not meet a good end."
