Eleanor's POV
The training room was empty, just me and the echo of my own breathing. I moved through the drills on autopilot, my body going through the motions while my mind spiraled somewhere far away.
What if my mates' family didn't agree to the trade? What if the plan turned sour before it even began? What if I couldn't find Chloe's sister, couldn't keep the one promise that might actually mean something in all of this?
Too much burden on my shoulders. Too many lives depending on choices I wasn't sure I was qualified to make. But I had to hold on. I had to keep moving. There was no other option.
And then there was Scarlet.
The thought of her made my blood boil even now, days after watching that video. Of all people, it had to be her. The woman who had schemed, manipulated, thrown herself at them for months. And now she had them. She had what should have been mine.
It was annoying. It was infuriating. It was a pain I couldn't afford to feel, but it burned in my chest anyway.
