Lydia
I was still plunged in rage when the door opened, and I saw Ophelia with another girl dressed in a beautiful blue gown with a golden wolf crest on one side of the chest. " Is that the servant's uniform?" I couldn't help but wonder. It looked so beautiful and eye catching.
The girl who brought the food glanced at me once, her face rigid and professional, but I could tell she wasn't happy because I was still wearing my obryn uniform. I guess she felt offended that she had to serve an obryn.
" Don't give her that look. She will be joining you guys too," I heard Ophelia say, as though she had just read my mind. The girl didn't say a word. Instead, she bowed and left.
Immediately she left, Ophelia scoffed. " Such an arrogant bitch!"
I laughed at her remark and sat upright. The food looked so delicious, even though I had never seen or tried any of it before.
" Eat before it gets cold," Ophelia advised, and I picked up the spoon, looked at it twice, then sighed.
I was used to eating with cutlery, but since I came here, I had to use only a spoon. After eating, I drank the water provided, and I was satisfied. It seemed the food gave me a kind of strength I couldn't understand. My body felt light, and I felt much better. I could even feel my face becoming a bit warm, especially the place that had the black mark.
" Feeling better?" Ophelia asked, and I nodded. She smiled.
" Of course you should. The Queen ordered that a special royal calming herb be added to your meal. I was surprised when she gave the order, It's a sacred herb only consumed by the royal family when they're sick or stressed," Ophelia said, still smiling.
" I don't actually know what you did in your past life to deserve such a favor from the Queen," Ophelia teased, and we both laughed.
Hearing her talk about my past life made my eyes turn teary. I really missed my father and my past life. Everything had been so easy and smooth, but here? I had to work my ass off as an obryn. Maybe because I was a good daughter to my father in my past life and made him worry less, that makes the Queen so good to me in this life.
" Hey, what are you thinking about?" Ophelia asked, and I shook my head, wiping my eyes.
" Wait, what? Why are you crying?" she questioned, and I smiled, trying to hide it.
" They're happy tears," I said, and she laughed.
" Okay then. Rest for a while. I have to go now," Ophelia said as if her time was up.
" Are you coming back?" I questioned, wondering if she just wanted to do something outside and would return, but her reply shocked me.
" No, Lydia.... I'm going back to the cell. The investigation isn't over yet, so I have to go back," Ophelia said with a smile, but upon closer observation, I knew she wasn't happy.
" I-I wish I could do something to help you," I said, and she sighed.
" Don't worry. I will be fine, and also take care of yourself. We might meet at the Moon Festival," Ophelia said and walked towards the door.
" Okay, promise?" I asked, and she laughed.
" Sorry, I can't. But I hope so. I also heard the Alpha King will be here by then," Ophelia said with a smile. " I guess when he arrives, he will free me," she added, I nodded and smiled back, watching her leave, though deep down I felt bitter.
"The Alpha again? That wicked beast?
Ugh! I'm tired of hearing about him already! Will someone as wicked as him even consider freeing somebody like Ophelia? He is heartless and will only find more ways to punish her!
"We must help Ophelia out," I heard Delia say and I nodded in agreement.
"But what if we have to beg the Alpha for that?" Delia suggested and I frowned.
"Beg the Alpha?" I spoke in disbelief and scoffed. "I can never do that! I'd rather be executed than do that! I think it's better to go through the Queen than her wicked son," I said this time in a low voice, afraid someone might hear me and I would be in great trouble since I'm in their territory.
Delia laughed at my words. "Yes, it's better to go through the Queen," she chimed in and I rolled my eyes. Wasn't she the one who just laughed at my words? Is she even on my side in this journey of hatred?
"Delia, why do I feel I hate the Alpha more than you do?" I questioned and heard Delia scoff.
"What does that even mean? Aren't we on the same team? The Alpha of this park made us lose our home and family. Why won't I hate him too?" Delia asked back, her tone unfriendly this time.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," I apologized and Delia replied with a "Hm," which made me grit my teeth.
This wolf sure has an attitude!
Still in that state, I heard a knock and before I could even say anything or move, the door was pushed open and the same girl who brought my food came inside, this time her expression grave, but I didn't care. Immediately she took the plate outside, four girls dressed like her came in, the fourth one looking much older than the rest.
"Lydia, right?" she questioned and I nodded. She gave a little nod and handed the bag she was holding to one of the girls, who walked close to me and gave me.
I held the bag, a little confused about what was inside.
"The things you will be needing are all inside. Make sure to change into that blue uniform and throw away the obryn uniform you are wearing," she instructed and I nodded in reply.
"Reply with your mouth, dummy! Or are you mute?" one of the girls barked and I looked at her in shock. That was too sudden.
Scanning her from head to toe, she looked two or three years older than me, but that didn't mean she should talk to me in such a rude manner.
"You don't have to be rude," I replied as calmly as I could, then turned to the lady who gave the instructions.
"I will. Thank you."
The lady nodded in reply, but the other one who had spoken rudely to me glared at me.
"Who do you think you are? An obryn who secured a place to work in the royal house. Who knows what means you use to achieve your position!" she spoke, making my body stiffen for a while.
What in the world did she just say? I muttered under my breath. My eyes landed on her and I watched her smile.
"What? Did I touch a nerve?" she spoke and laughed mockingly walking close to my bed . . "You know..." she started. "People like you... use your face to seduce high ranking royal guards to secure a favorable working position," she added, then sniffed the air around me and covered her nose in disgust.
"You even reek of obryn smell,," she said and I clenched my fists. Looking at my hands, she laughed.
"What now? Wanna fight me, you wolfless bitch!" she said with a sarcastic smile.
Hearing those words, my body tensed, my eyes dimmed, and all I could think of was pinning her to the wall. Before I could think any further, the room blurred.
The next thing I knew, my hand was around her throat and she was pinned against the wall across the room.
