From the plains of Moab, Moses climbed Mount Nebo to the peak of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There, the Lord showed him the whole promised land — from Gilead to Dan, Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh, and Judah stretching to the western sea, the Negev desert, and the valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, all the way to Zoar.
Then the Lord said, "This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I swore to give it to their descendants. I have allowed you to see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it."
And there, in the land of Moab, Moses the servant of the Lord died, just as the Lord had said. God Himself buried him in the valley opposite Beth Peor, though to this day no one knows where his grave lies.
Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were clear and his strength had not left him. The Israelites mourned for him in the plains of Moab for thirty days until the time of weeping was complete.
Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. The Israelites listened to Joshua and followed the Lord's commands as Moses had instructed.
And so it was written: Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face—who performed all the signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt against Pharaoh and his servants, and who showed unmatched power and mighty deeds before all Israel.
