Chapter 56 - Ch: 56

Paragus: "It's finally time... Let us show this story the true excellence of a father and son!"

Broly: "Yay!"

***

When Lisette emerged from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, she found the atmosphere outside unusually lively. Her confusion vanished the moment she saw Son Goku surrounded by Krillin and the others.

It seemed that while she was sealed away in her own training, Goku had finally recovered. She walked over to him, offering a small smile to celebrate his return.

"Goku. You're over the heart virus, then?"

"Yeah, thanks to you. I think I've got a handle on what's been going on."

Goku explained that even while bedridden, he had been "watching" everything in his sleep. It was Far-Sight—the same advanced stage of ki-sensing Lisette used. To achieve that level of sensory awareness while unconscious was a testament to his natural genius.

Goku glanced at Gohan for a moment before turning back to Lisette. "Sorry to ask right away, but is it alright if Gohan and I take the next turn in the Chamber?"

"You just got out of bed," Lisette cautioned. "Don't push it."

"Nah, we'll take our breaks inside. We've got a whole year, after all."

Lisette welcomed the request. These two were the primary pillars of the upcoming war. If Gohan could awaken the power of Super Saiyan 2, their tactical advantage would be immeasurable. With Broly and Hatchiyack looming, and the eventual arrival of Hirudegarn and Janemba, they needed every ounce of power they could muster.

Immediately after Goku's recovery, Krillin and the others organized a grand celebration. It was the height of spring, the cherry blossoms in full bloom. They gathered under the trees to drink and rejoice.

One might find it odd that they were partying while the man of the hour was already back inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with his son, but their joy was genuine. Krillin was belts out off-key songs while Turles shouted, "Shut up, you hack!" and threw empty beer cans at him.

Bulma and her son watched the chaos from a distance, laughing, while Master Roshi performed a "traditional" lewd dance. Yamcha, Tien, and Nappa were all swept up in the festivities.

Only the Son family, Lisette, and Piccolo were absent from the party. Goku and Gohan were training; Chi-Chi had gone into the city to pre-register Gohan for cram schools in anticipation of the war ending; Piccolo, disinterested in "flower-viewing," had simply wandered off to meditate.

Lisette remained at the Lookout, focused entirely on monitoring the cosmos. She had a premonition.

Meanwhile, Vegeta was seething.

His irritation wasn't just about Krillin's terrible singing—though that didn't help. His rage stemmed from his recent track record. He had awakened as a Super Saiyan and dismantled Android 19, but everything since then had been a disaster. He was the Prince, a super-elite, and a legendary warrior. He should have been peerless.

Yet, he had been humiliated by Android 16. Even after his time in the Chamber, he had lost to Bojack. And while he couldn't measure her ki, he knew the Earth's Goddess was still standing far above him.

He hated it. He was a Prince, not like the rabble making a scene under the trees. Turles was a low-class soldier. Nappa was a mid-tier at best. But here, they were all treated as equals.

"Damn them all..."

Vegeta's ego was fraying. The pride he had rebuilt after Frieza's death was cracking again. He was losing confidence in his own supremacy. Behind his stoic mask, he was more vulnerable and desperate than he had ever been.

Lisette was the only one who sensed his instability. And, as if sensing the perfect moment to exploit it, a massive spacecraft descended toward Earth.

"That... that ship!"

Trunks was the first to react. He recognized the jagged, ominous silhouette instantly. It was a symbol of ill omen—the very vessel the demon who destroyed his future had arrived in.

"He's here," Trunks whispered, reaching for his sword. "The devil... the Legendary Super Saiyan!"

Before he could draw his blade, Lisette's voice echoed in his mind.

'Trunks, stay your hand.'

"Lisette! The ship is right here! Broly is—"

'I sense the ship, but the Broly you described is not on board.'

"Not on board? Then who...?"

'From what I can see through my Far-Sight, Broly has been stationary on a planet between the Southern and Northern galaxies for several days. The one leading this group is his father, Paragus. It seems he has chosen that world as his stage.'

Trunks felt a surge of hope. "Then we should kill Paragus now! If we eliminate him, Broly will be stranded out there!"

'No,' Lisette countered. 'If you kill Paragus here, there will be no one to control Broly. We don't know how a mindless Legendary Super Saiyan would react. He might simply start vaporizing every planet in his vicinity. Worse, he's obsessed with Goku. He might find his way to Earth through pure instinct.'

She had seen it in her "memories"—in the films, Broly had traveled to Earth alone without any directions.

'We're going to let Paragus play his hand.'

"You want to let him go?"

'He intends to lure Vegeta to a place called "New Planet Vegeta." We will follow him. We'll play along until he lets his guard down, then we steal the Control Device.'

"The control device?! I see! If we have that..."

'We can neutralize the threat without a catastrophic war. Broly is too strong to face head-on if we can avoid it. Moving the battle away from Earth is also a priority.'

"Should I tell my father?"

'No. He'd probably destroy the control device along with Paragus out of spite. Keep it to yourself for now.'

As they spoke telepathically, a swarm of soldiers emerged from the ship and knelt before Vegeta. At their center stood a bearded, one-eyed Saiyan in an elegant mantle.

"We have searched long for you, Prince Vegeta."

The man bowed deeply. Vegeta, who hadn't been treated with royal respect in years, felt a flicker of his old vanity return.

"You're a Saiyan?"

"I am Paragus. I have come to escort you to New Planet Vegeta, that you may take your rightful place as King."

"What? New Planet Vegeta?"

"Let us show the universe the excellence of the Saiyan race once more!" Paragus stood, spreading his arms wide. "Under your rule, we shall build the greatest empire the stars have ever seen!"

The soldiers behind him broke into a choreographed cheer. Vegeta scowled and turned to walk away, seeing the offer as beneath him. But Paragus threw the one lure he knew Vegeta couldn't resist.

"Only King Vegeta has the power to destroy the Legendary Super Saiyan!"

Vegeta stopped dead. Paragus smirked. Hook, line, and sinker.

"The Legendary Super Saiyan..." Vegeta muttered.

Lisette had told them of this monster—the one who had slaughtered the defenders in the "Future of Despair." If Vegeta could kill the beast that even the Goddess had only managed to take down with a suicidal tie, then he would truly be the supreme warrior.

"The creature is ravaging the Southern Galaxy," Paragus urged. "At this rate, the empire we have built for you will be reduced to ash..."

"Father! Don't listen to him!" Trunks shouted, stepping in front of Vegeta.

Vegeta ignored his son entirely, looking directly at Paragus. "Paragus. Lead the way."

"Father!"

Trunks tried to follow, but Paragus blocked his path with a smooth, practiced smile. "You are welcome as well, Prince Trunks, blood of King Vegeta."

Trunks stiffened. The fact that this man knew his name and lineage meant he had done extensive research. This was a trap—a calculated, lethal trap.

Vegeta boarded the ship without a second thought. A drunk Master Roshi, followed by Krillin, Yamcha, and Oolong—who were trying to pull the old man back—were all swept inside as the hatch hissed shut.

"King of New Vegeta? What an idiot," Bulma muttered, holding her baby.

The adult Trunks sprinted past her, taking flight to slip into the ship just before it took off. "Mother! I'll bring him back!"

As the ship cleared the atmosphere, Turles and Nappa let out a long, synchronized sigh.

"Is he serious?" Nappa asked. "It's so obviously a trap."

"The Prince has always been a sucker for his own press," Turles shrugged. "I've got no interest in 'New Vegeta.' I'm a free man now. I don't need a dead home or a fake throne."

Turles had no nostalgia for the planet that had discarded him. Without Bardock or Gine, a planet named "Vegeta" was just a rock.

"What about the 'Bald Duo'?" Turles asked, glancing at Tien.

"I'm not interested in Saiyan politics," Tien replied. "But we should check in with Lisette. She'll know what's really going on."

Worldbuilding & Lore Notes

Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan

The 8th DBZ movie (11th overall). In the original, it takes place during the ten-day wait for the Cell Games. However, that creates a contradiction because Goku and Gohan should be in their permanent Super Saiyan forms, which they aren't in the movie. This story assumes a timeline where Goku's "Instant Transmission Kamehameha" accidentally destroyed Cell's core, ending the threat early.

Broly

The most famous movie villain. Possessing an IQ of 26 but power that is off the charts. He is the true Legendary Super Saiyan—a being who loves only blood and slaughter. He has carried a grudge against Goku for crying in the nursery for over 30 years. In this story, his transformed power is set at a $100\text{x}$ multiplier, hitting $140\text{ billion}$.

Paragus

A man driven by revenge against the House of Vegeta. While often viewed as weak, a power level of 9,000 actually makes him a high-tier warrior by Saiyan standards; he just had the misfortune of existing in an era of gods. He loves "adult women" and getting crushed in space pods.

The Shamoans

Slaves brought from Planet Shamo to build Paragus's palace. They are frequently used as "demonstration fodder" for Broly's power.
