Chapter 70 - DB | Ch: 70

May 7th, Age 774.

This was the day of the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, and in the original history, the day Majin Buu was destined to be resurrected. It had been 274 years since Lisette had first come into this world. Looking back on the centuries, she couldn't help but feel a deep sense of nostalgia.

Of course, the journey wasn't over yet, but the steady march of time was impossible to ignore. Goku and the others were all gathering to participate in the tournament for the first time in ages. Lisette had been invited to join, but she'd politely declined. Ever since her time as a celestial maiden, she had been a public figure on Earth; fighting in front of a massive crowd of spectators was a recipe for unwanted attention.

However, even if she wasn't a contestant, she could still go as a spectator. She draped a white cape-coat over her shoulders, finalizing her outfit.

The world had modernized rapidly. Unlike the past, when Earth was filled with eccentrics and oddities, a woman in a formal gown stood out far too much among the general public. For the sake of modesty, she had returned the weight of her dress to its normal state—revealing her shoulders every time she used her full power was getting embarrassing.

Now, the dress was just exceptionally durable. In its place, her new cape-coat weighed exactly ten tons. It seemed she simply couldn't relax without some form of constant training.

"Are you participating, Cell?"

"Of course. I've wanted to fight Goku and the others at full power at least once," he replied.

In this world, Cell had never announced the "Cell Games," so his existence was unknown to the public. Aside from his unusual appearance, there was no issue with him fighting in front of people. To solve that, Lisette had applied a light perception-altering spell; to the average person, he looked like an ordinary human.

She had to laugh at herself. She had started out just carrying rocks around to get stronger, and now she was a master of such mystical arts.

The preparations were complete. According to the original timeline, Babidi should be making his move today, but the seal of Majin Buu was supposed to be in the Sacred World of the Kai. Furthermore, thanks to Lisette's mass-purification of evil seven years ago, there were almost no humans on Earth with darkness in their hearts. Even Spopovich and the thugs who would have shot Mr. Satan's dog had been turned into saints.

While new generations had been born since then, it would take a few more years before enough malice accumulated to be useful for someone like Babidi. For now, Babidi had no one on Earth to brainwash.

(...Just in case, I should check for his presence one more time.)

Babidi used magic to move undetected. Since she couldn't prevent his infiltration directly—like she had with Lord Slug—Lisette had resorted to scanning the Earth's surface daily. Today was the day history said they would act; it wouldn't be surprising if they were already here.

She projected her consciousness across the globe, searching for any sinister ripples. And there they were.

(Found them!)

It paid to be thorough. She located Babidi's ship in a wasteland far from any major city, confirming the presence of both the wizard and Dabura. But what caught her attention more was a group of signatures moving some distance away.

She shifted her focus and saw Kibito. He was flying desperately, carrying a battered and bloodied Supreme Kai. Behind them, a group of minor lackeys—looking like off-brand cousins of Pui Pui—were in hot pursuit.

What is going on?

She'd figure it out later. For now, they needed a rescue.

"Cell, change of plans. The tournament is going on the back burner. Something has come up."

"Is it serious?"

"I'm not sure of the specifics, but the Supreme Kai and Kibito are being hunted by Babidi's men."

With that, Lisette vanished, teleporting directly to their coordinates.

"Hehehe! You aren't getting away!"

"Just give up already!"

Kibito flew with everything he had, clutching the nearly dead Supreme Kai. He couldn't understand how it had come to this. It had started in the Sacred World—those two demons had appeared out of nowhere. A man named Mira, possessing strength beyond comprehension, had dismantled them. They had barely escaped to Earth, only to be intercepted by Babidi, who had set his dogs on them.

If Kibito had a moment of peace, he could heal the Supreme Kai. If the Supreme Kai were at full strength, he could easily handle these grunts. But there was no time. If he stopped for a second, a combined volley would finish the job.

He was prepared to die, but he could not let the highest god of the universe perish. Just as despair was about to claim him, a miracle occurred. The Guardian of Earth materialized between them and their pursuers.

"Wh... what? A girl?"

"Step back. I will not permit such lawlessness on this planet."

Though she looked like a young girl, her voice carried a weight of absolute authority. There was a divinity in her presence that made the pursuers want to drop to their knees. She wasn't glowing brightly, but a soft, ethereal radiance clung to her, making her seem like a being to whom one must confess their sins.

The alien invaders screamed as if to shake off the feeling.

"Don't make me laugh! What can one woman do?! I am Pirika, a cosmic warrior whose strength was said to rival even the great Frieza!"

"And I am Pirilala!"

"And I, Popolina!"

"I am the great Pepelt!"

Lisette stared at the four of them—all cheap knock-offs of Pui Pui—with a look of profound boredom.

What am I even looking at?

In her memories of the old 8-bit Dragon Ball games, there were always palette-swapped fodder enemies like this. If the Famicom games had continued into the Majin Buu arc, these were exactly the kind of generic grunts that would have appeared. To Lisette, they weren't even worth her time.

"You have a fair amount of energy. Rejoice! Your life force will be used to resurrect Majin—"

"I don't think so."

Before the alien could finish, Lisette exercised her newest skill: Magic.

Four bolts of purple lightning descended from the heavens, incinerating the "Pui Pui Brothers" instantly. The spell lacked the raw destructive power of a ki blast, but its casting speed was superior, and its potency scaled with her own strength. Most importantly, it used no ki. It felt like using a different resource entirely—the difference between HP and MP.

It was the perfect tool for clearing out trash.

"So... so strong! How can a planetary Guardian possess such power?"

"Kibito, right? Let's get to my Lookout. We'll talk there."

"U-Understood."

Back at the Lookout, Lisette listened to their story and let out a long, weary sigh. It wasn't the Supreme Kai's fault; it was her own. She had failed to predict that Mira and Towa would strike at the Sacred World of the Kai. She hadn't expected them to be bold enough to invade the gods' sanctuary.

And Mira was alive. Her memories of that fight were hazy, but she was certain she had erased half of his body. It should have been a terminal wound. He must have possessed some form of high-level regeneration.

She didn't know what the demons wanted with the Majin's egg, but it certainly wasn't anything good. And those "Pui Pui Brothers" she had just roasted had mentioned using energy to wake the Majin...

(This is a disaster. They've definitely handed the egg over to Babidi.)

Lisette considered her options. Against Babidi alone, she and Cell could storm the ship and win effortlessly. But with Mira and Towa in the mix, things were complicated. She was confident she could handle Mira now, but victory wasn't a 100% certainty.

Furthermore, if she called Goku and the others, and Vegeta came along, history would likely repeat itself. She'd have to deal with the "Majin Vegeta" situation, which was a massive headache. And it wasn't just Vegeta. Turles and Piccolo would be at risk too.

This Piccolo hadn't fused with Kami or Nail; he had fused with Lord Slug. His heart wasn't as "pure" as the canon version. He was prime real estate for Babidi's mind control.

Maybe I should just open a subspace gate and fire a Raging Blast from here to blow up the ship, she thought.

That would almost certainly wake Buu prematurely, but a Majin without full energy wouldn't be a major threat. Even if someone got absorbed, she could hunt them down and erase them before they could adapt. In the original story, Buu became an ally because of Mr. Satan, but the odds of replicating that were astronomical.

To turn Buu into an ally, she'd have to let him wake up, befriend him, let him split into Good and Evil, and then destroy the evil half... the risk was too high. If she made one mistake, the Earth would be destroyed just for her personal desire to "collect" a powerful ally.

As the Guardian of Earth, she couldn't gamble the planet on a whim.

"Alright."

Decision made. Lisette decided to erase the ship and everyone on it from a distance. She opened a gate and raised her hand, gathering her power. She wouldn't hold back; she would open with her maximum output.

White radiance began to envelope her. Kibito recoiled in shock, and the now-healed Supreme Kai cried out in panic.

"Wait! What are you doing?!"

"I'm attacking Babidi's ship. Obviously."

"You mustn't! The impact might wake Majin Buu!"

"I'll deal with him the moment he wakes. It's not an issue."

"No! You don't understand the horror of Majin Buu!"

Lisette looked at the Supreme Kai. He was being far too cautious. Yes, Buu was terrifying at full power, but waking him up while his energy was low was far safer than waiting for Babidi to finish the job. And with Towa and Mira involved, waiting was a death sentence. They would find a way to pop the seal regardless.

But the Supreme Kai was paralyzed by his trauma. He had watched his family die; he wasn't thinking logically. And because he was the highest god, she couldn't simply ignore his orders.

"Then what is your plan?"

"There are many warriors of great power on this planet, including yourself. We must gather them, infiltrate the ship, and defeat Babidi from within."

Lisette wanted to bury her face in her hands. 'Infiltrate the ship,' he says. But he meant that they would do the fighting. In terms of combat power—and she meant no disrespect—the Supreme Kai was useless. Without a scouter, she could only estimate, but his ki felt roughly equivalent to Turles at the start of the Android crisis. He wasn't weak by mortal standards, but against Dabura, he was a liability.

"I still suggest a pre-emptive strike. It's the tactically sound choice."

"No! As Supreme Kai, I am ordering you! We must prevent the resurrection at all costs!"

"..."

And here we go, Lisette thought. We're on the high road to a Majin Buu resurrection.

Resigned to the inevitable, she reached out telepathically, sending a message to only two people: Goku and Gohan. She needed to keep the "vulnerable" ones like Vegeta as far away from Babidi as possible.
