The ocean no longer felt entirely peaceful compared to before those messages. It was still vast and beautiful, glowing with the quiet majesty of Atlantis beneath the twilight currents.
But for Albedo something had shifted. The calm surface had cracked just enough for something else to seep through, the thought about back home.
"…Something's happening."
His voice was low, almost lost to the night air. His golden eyes narrowed slightly as he stared into the distance, but he wasn't seeing Atlantis anymore.
He was seeing home. The capital, and evil things happening all around, shadows moving where they shouldn't and one particular woman who didn't move without reason.
Slowly, Albedo lifted his phone again. His thumb hovered for only a second this time. Then he tapped the call icon next to Seraphyne's name, waiting patiently for her to pick up.
A soft ringing tone echoed in his ear.
Once, twice, three times.
