Chapter 377: Porygon2
"Come out, Porygon2!" Zayne threw out a Pokéball with all his might.
A flash of red light appeared, and a red and blue Pokémon resembling a toy duck materialized. Its body was smooth and round, without a single sharp edge, floating in the air with a slightly goofy expression.
"Wow! It's here, the evolved form of Porygon!" Exclamations rang out from both the candidates and the evaluators' platform.
Porygon were already rare, so many people had never seen one in reality, let alone its latest evolved form.
After Porygon2 appeared, its gaze quickly locked onto Luxray, and a light flickered in its eyes. Soon, Porygon2's body glowed, and its aura began to rise steadily.
"Download Ability?" Basalt raised an eyebrow, immediately guessing the reason.
Porygon2 had three possible Abilities: Trace, Download, and Analytic.
The Download Ability allowed Porygon2 to scan its opponent's Defense and Special Defense stats upon entering battle. It would then boost its own corresponding attack stat (Attack or Special Attack) based on whichever of the opponent's defenses was lower.
Simply put: If your Defense is weak, I boost my Attack. If your Special Defense is weak, I boost my Special Attack. This Ability was incredibly broken.
Seeing this, Lin Peng was confused. Did Zayne just break the rules? Why did he boost his stats before the match even started? That's cheating!
Unfortunately, the evaluators and referees had been briefed on Porygon2's capabilities, so they dismissed his objection.
"Damn it!" Lin Peng felt targeted. He shouted, "Luxray, Thunder Wave!"
Seeing this, Zayne smirked. Lin Peng's reaction was entirely within his expectations.
Fine electric waves shot from Luxray's body. Before Zayne even gave a command, Porygon2's body flashed with light, forming a reflective coating. When the Thunder Wave hit Porygon2, it was instantly reflected, striking Luxray directly.

Thunder Wave couldn't paralyze an Electric-type Pokémon, but the unexpected rebound was enough to make Luxray flinch instinctively, forcing it to adjust its internal energy to resist.
Seizing this opportunity, energy surged around Porygon2. Three orbs of light formed in front of it—Fire, Ice, and Lightning—arranged in an equilateral triangle, then rapidly struck Luxray.
Tri Attack!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Three different elemental energies hit Luxray in succession. The power was astonishing, giving Luxray a taste of fire, ice, and thunder. First scorching heat, then paralysis, and finally shivering cold. Luxray felt numb all over.
With Porygon2's already strong Special Attack, boosted by the Download Ability, and further enhanced by STAB on Tri Attack, the destructive power was immense. The final freezing energy encased Luxray in a block of ice. It was frozen solid.
"One more time! Tri Attack!"
With a wave of Zayne's hand, Luxray fell.
"Hiss~ So strong!" The candidates gasped. Zayne's strength was indeed terrifying. This Porygon2 was clearly half a step above their own Pokémon, wielding various elemental attacks with ease.
"Damn it! Don't get cocky, kid! Watch me handle you!" Having lost two rounds in a row, Lin Peng's face was grim.
His third Pokémon was Steelix. Although its resistances were excellent, its Special Defense was low. Thanks to Porygon2's terrifying Special Attack, it still secured the victory. However, this time Porygon2 sustained several injuries, and its stamina was significantly drained.
But when Lin Peng sent out his fourth Pokémon, Golem, Porygon2 used Recover, nearly breaking Lin Peng's spirit. All that fighting, and it was all for nothing!
Lin Peng's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, but he didn't give up. He commanded Golem to use Rock Slide, damaging Porygon2 again.
"Porygon2, Recover!" Zayne tried to repeat the trick, but Lin Peng was prepared and wouldn't give him another chance.

An earth-shattering explosion engulfed the entire arena, blasting a deep crater into the ground. When the dust settled, Golem's sturdy body showed visible cracks.
Moves like Self-Destruct and Explosion caused significant damage to the user's body in reality, often leaving hidden injuries. Unless absolutely necessary, few trainers used them, and Pokémon resisted using them. If Porygon2 hadn't been so overwhelmingly strong, threatening a 6-0 sweep, Lin Peng wouldn't have resorted to it.
Fortunately, Golem's sacrifice wasn't in vain. Under the force of the Explosion, Porygon2 fainted as well. Zayne hadn't expected Lin Peng to choose mutual destruction.
Unfortunately, Lin Peng's defeat was already sealed. His fifth and sixth Pokémon were only at the Advanced-level and had limited strength.
Zayne's third Pokémon was Zangoose. Agile and powerful, it easily won with sharp Slash and Close Combat attacks.
In the end, the match concluded with a score of 6-1. Lin Peng suffered a crushing defeat.
However, Zayne still looked dissatisfied. His original plan was to sweep the opponent without losing a single Pokémon.
"That was too strong. If it were me, I wouldn't stand a chance," the candidates murmured, making way for the arrogant Zayne as he walked off the field. Don't mess with him!
Winning with such overwhelming dominance forced even the picky old evaluator to give an "Excellent" rating. But thinking of Basalt's file, the old evaluator's heart burned with anticipation. Would Basalt also deliver a victory that rivaled Zayne's?
The assessment continued. Candidates 3 and 4 took the field. Their battle was standard, back-and-forth action. This was the norm for assessments; trainers like Zayne were the exception.
While others watched the battle, Zayne walked up to Basalt, smiling cheerfully. "Junior, I'm looking forward to your performance. Don't disappoint me! After all, we'll likely meet again in the Secret Realm."
The threat in Zayne's words was obvious. They wouldn't meet in the second round, but they would definitely cross paths in the third.
Basalt raised an eyebrow and quipped, "Senior, whether I disappoint you remains to be seen. But you certainly disappointed me. sweeping an opponent without losses? Isn't that something anyone with hands can do?"
