Chapter 173 - Chapter 185 Underground Creatures

After falling to the ground, King Kong let out a painful roar. No matter how strong its muscles were or how tough its bones were, its internal organs were still fragile. And after taking a heavy blow from Clark, even King Kong couldn't withstand it.

The intense internal shock even caused blood to trickle from the corner of its mouth. It was King Kong's own blood. However, it didn't give up on resisting. With one hand pressing against the ground, it tried to stand again.

But the serious internal injuries had clearly taken a toll. King Kong struggled multiple times, trying to fight again, but its heavily wounded body could no longer support its actions. After all, once the internal organs are injured, most of the body's functions are severely impacted.

Seeing King Kong struggle on the ground, Clark stepped forward and activated his x-ray vision to scan King Kong's body. He realized that although he had thrown a heavy object at it earlier, King Kong hadn't suffered any life-threatening injuries. At most, its internal organs were bleeding but not damaged. So it was just suffering from internal trauma—not fatal.

King Kong looked at Clark flying in front of it. Although it had trouble moving, it still smiled at Clark, giving off the kind of feeling that said: If you don't kill me now, I'll kill you later.

Seeing King Kong like this gave Clark a bit of a headache. After all, he didn't want to kill this creature. Setting everything else aside, this beast had guarded the island for decades—maybe even centuries. That alone was enough to prove it was, relatively speaking, a benevolent monster. Killing such a creature felt like a waste.

But as for subduing it... judging by its current state, that wouldn't be easy either. So Clark decided to leave it alone for now. The island was big, but not so big that King Kong could run far. He had time to deal with it later.

However, whether it was due to the intense battle with King Kong or some other reason, after a brief standoff, Clark noticed that the lake King Kong had just bathed in began to bubble. Then an explosion erupted from beneath the surface, as if someone had planted explosives there.

Clark frowned and looked underwater. The tremors reminded him of something: the bottom of this island seemed hollow. But this emptiness didn't mean nothing was down there. On the contrary, beneath the island appeared to live a race of deranged creatures—at least that's what Clark believed.

After all, in the movie, the island's veteran had mentioned that King Kong had killed many Skullcrawlers. Yet when one of them finally showed up, its first reaction wasn't to attack King Kong, but to chase the protagonists instead. Wasn't that just plain stupid? By any logic, killing King Kong offered more reward than chasing some puny humans.

First of all—food. How many people do you need to match the meat of one Kong? Even if it didn't want to eat King Kong, it could've just killed him first. But that giant Skullcrawler didn't do that. After injuring King Kong, it ignored him and chased after the humans who barely had any meat on them.

That ridiculous decision ultimately got the Skullcrawler killed by King Kong. Had it just thought rationally and eaten the meat in front of it, it might've survived.

So when Clark saw that huge Skullcrawler in the movie finally get killed, only two words popped into his mind: Serves you right.

Now, as the water rippled, bubbled, and burst apart, Clark immediately thought of those idiotic Skullcrawlers, since they were the only creatures that crawled out from underground.

And sure enough, what followed didn't disappoint. With his x-ray vision activated, Clark saw a massive tunnel beneath the lake. Soon, a horde of Skullcrawlers crawled out from the opening.

Yes, a whole horde—around a dozen or so. They varied in size. The smallest stood about 1 meter tall and 5 meters long, while the largest ones were over 10 meters high and nearly 100 meters long. They looked almost exactly like the ones in the movie—far from appealing by human standards, the kind that polluted the environment just by existing.

Looking at the swarm of giant Skullcrawlers, Clark wondered if he had accidentally activated hard mode before entering Skull Island. Why did the movie's protagonists only run into one Skullcrawler at a time, while he got welcomed by an entire pack? The difference in treatment was way too obvious.

Still, whether it was hard mode or not, to Clark—who was basically a max-level character that still somehow broke the game—it didn't really matter.

But the King Kong beside Clark didn't feel the same way. Regardless of their size, if left unchecked, these Skullcrawlers would be a disaster for the island's ecosystem.

So after a brief struggle, despite staggering, King Kong stood up. Although barely on his feet, Clark could tell it had little real combat ability left.

"You better rest for now. Let me handle these lizards," Clark said, not knowing whether Kong understood him, but speaking anyway.

With that, Clark dived down and charged toward the Skullcrawlers.

At that moment, the Skullcrawlers had just climbed out of the water and were still adjusting to their surroundings. The largest one immediately felt a sharp pain at the top of its skull before completely blacking out.

To Clark, even the largest Skullcrawlers—at most 100 meters tall—were child's play. Their strength wasn't great. Their agility was slightly better than Kong's, but still not enough to challenge him. So the battle didn't involve much back-and-forth. With just one blow containing 50 units of energy, Clark sent the biggest Skullcrawler straight to the afterlife.

Even after losing their strongest member, the rest of the Skullcrawlers didn't retreat. On the contrary, seeing Clark only made them more excited. They all lunged at him as if afraid they'd miss out on tasting his flesh.

After all, even to the smallest Skullcrawler present, Clark was barely a mouthful. As for the giant Kong lying nearby, they conveniently ignored his existence—focusing only on Clark.
