Chapter 45 - Tonight, Silence Is the Cam

An S-rank Faith Gift exclusive to the Memory Traveler: Flowing Light of memory.

As a traveler, he shuttles through fragments of the target's memory, constantly hunting for scenes and images that interest him—like taking a quick trip.

Du Xiguang isn't selfish; at the very least, he knows how to share.

While Yun Ni's memories were being read moments ago, he used some unknown method to imprint the images onto the street's surface.

Then every player present saw this:

A well-built female assassin lifted her tank top; although the bunched fabric covered the peaks, the breathtaking curve of the southern hemisphere still left everyone dumbstruck… ahem.

Clearly, this was Yun Ni's memory of changing clothes.

As for the reason for the change, naturally someone had slashed her chest, tearing the top.

"…"

"…"

"…"

Now the scene had turned into a mass conversion to Silence.

Everyone went dead quiet.

Cheng Shi's mouth twitched as he looked at Du Xiguang's rigid face, too exasperated to complain.

You finally cobble together an excuse to let him look for interesting assassin memories, and this is what you show everyone?

Way to treat the boys like family!

Yun Ni was only restrained, not blind; she saw the images on the ground too.

But she wasn't angry.

With a cold face she simply drove her dagger into Du Xiguang's heart, slit open his chest and belly, sliced his throat, and gouged out his eyes… then, when he opened them again under the protection of bloom awaits wither, she asked:

"Enjoy the show?"

The weakened Du Xiguang couldn't resist the effect of Confession and blurted:

"Gorgeous!"

Then his eyes took another beating.

"Ahh!"

If Cheng Shi hadn't pulled them apart, Du Xiguang might never have made it back tonight under the torment of Oblivion's divine power.

After venting, Yun Ni gave Cheng Shi a glance devoid of expression.

"You liked it too—was it good?"

Damn, the girl sure holds a grudge!

But Cheng Shi wasn't scared.

After everything he'd been through, he really was immune to this level of spectacle.

Yet to his surprise the words still slipped out:

"Gorgeous!"

Realizing his mistake, his face looked like he was constipated and he quickly stepped back.

To his shock, Yun Ni didn't attack him; instead she said cryptically:

"Come to my room tonight—there's something even better to see."

"…"

Trap!

Definitely a trap!

For the first time, Cheng Shi thought that maybe worshiping Silence wasn't so bad—at least you don't have to think of a reply.

Praise be to Silence!

The playful interlude ended.

Fang Jue was here for business.

He swore he'd only flicked a glance at the steamy images on the ground before remembering he was here to interrogate, not to joke.

His target clearly wasn't Cheng Shi.

It was the Ascetic Monk who had never once stayed with the group.

The Believer of Silence had vanished early on, only to reappear as the guide who'd discovered the corpse.

Where he'd gone and what he'd done during that disappearance—no one knew.

And since Believers of Silence best understand how to snuff out sound, Fang Jue's first priority was to confirm whether Wei Guan might have been killed by him.

The Ascetic Monk realized the suspicion on him, yet this time he didn't keep silent; instead he spoke first:

"It wasn't me."

Silence was broken!

Everyone stared, stunned; then their hearts sank.

The situation had turned so ugly that a Believer of Silence voluntarily broke his creed to seek cooperation—meaning every player faced a murderer far more dangerous than expected.

Worse, the self-proclaimed life-saving tricks of the players seemed worthless in this killer's eyes.

The arrogant Wei Guan was the best proof.

The scene fell silent again.

Fang Jue stopped chanting his ballad and began examining every trace at the scene.

After recovering, Du Xiguang split up with Cheng Shi to inspect every nearby building.

They were so thorough they nearly pulled the bugs sleeping in door cracks, gave them an X-ray, then stuffed them back—yet found nothing.

Yun Ni performed another autopsy, but the result was identical to the one at the Executive Law Bureau that afternoon.

No wounds.

An eerie atmosphere spread; everyone's face looked wrong.

Cheng Shi frowned and walked over to Wei Guan's corpse.

He noticed the terror on Wei Guan's face.

Ironically, the Hunter of Idiots—who always squinted in contempt—had opened his eyes wide for the first time… at the moment of Death.

"Don't you have a way to read memories?"

"I do, but not from the dead," Du Xiguang answered flatly. "I'm a mage, not a hunter."

Cheng Shi nodded and began checking the corpse's pupils carefully.

Yun Ni stepped close and said coldly:

"Don't bother looking in the pupils; the killer erased every trace—perfect assassin."

Cheng Shi found nothing and sighed, then started examining the limbs.

The body still held a trace of warmth—clearly freshly dead.

Cheng Shi still couldn't grasp how a life could vanish so soundlessly.

Could a 2400-rated Wei Guan really not struggle even once against the killer?

Or… was the method truly a curse?

Had the murderer never even come to the scene, simply ended Wei Guan's life remotely?

Did that level of kill erase the victim's consciousness or merely stop his heart?

Thinking this, Cheng Shi placed his hand on the corpse's chest.

It was rather cold.

Dead for a little while.

Hmm?

No!

Why were Wei Guan's limbs still warm while his chest had chilled?

Cheng Shi raised an eyebrow and began feeling the chest inch by inch with his fingertip.

Fang Jue, watching curiously, asked:

"Are you a doctor?"

"memory must be failing you. I told you—I'm a Reason Corroder."

"Doctors and priests aren't the same thing."

Fang Jue was clearly referring to Cheng Shi's former profession; Cheng Shi didn't hide it and nodded.

Yun Ni asked with interest:

"So you picked priest because of that?"

Cheng Shi shook his head.

"Then why?"

"Confession's over—do you still think you'll get an answer from me?"

Yun Ni gave a soft laugh and said nothing more.

Before the Faith Game arrived, Cheng Shi hadn't been a doctor, but he did know some basic diagnostics.

Those skills weren't learned in school; they were taught by his adoptive father, an old man who grinned all day.

Why a scrap-collecting elder knew medicine, Cheng Shi couldn't say.

He'd never asked.

He carefully felt the muscle texture and fascial tension beneath the skin, then looked up after a long moment and said:

"I need a needle."

Everyone frowned at that and shook their heads.

Only Yun Ni glanced sideways and asked:

"Where do you want to stab?"

Cheng Shi looked at her, surprised, and pointed to the center of Wei Guan's chest.

"Here—straight into the heart."
