Chapter 49 - – The Flames That Shield Us

"Sometimes, those who shine the brightest… are the ones who chose to rise from their own ashes."

🔥 Village Square — Nightfall

The air was… suffocating.

It wasn't just the enemy's presence.

It felt as if the world itself was being compressed by something unseen.

The darkness surrounding the Apostle of Tyrus wasn't natural—it moved, breathed… reacted. Ethereal tendrils tore through space like living fractures in reality, twisting everything around them.

The ground decayed beneath his presence.

Soil blackened.

Stone cracked.

Homes trembled, their structures groaning as if they were alive… and afraid.

Screams echoed across the village.

Children crying.

Villagers running.

Hope… fading with every step he took.

And at the center of it all—

Annie Halloway and Abby Fountier stood their ground.

Wounded.

Exhausted.

But still standing.

Abby's body trembled. Her breathing was uneven, strained. Flickers of unstable energy leaked from her skin like uncontrolled sparks.

A vein pulsed dangerously at her temple.

— Annie… — her voice came out weak — I can only use my full power… two more times.

Annie turned sharply.

Her eyes widened, clouded with dust and sweat.

— Two…?

Abby nodded, forcing a faint smile.

— If I try a third time…

She struggled to breathe.

— My body won't hold.

A pause.

— I might die.

Silence slammed between them.

Annie clenched her fists.

— Then don't use it! — she snapped — We'll find another way!

Abby shook her head slowly.

— It's not that simple…

She raised her hand.

Particles of light began to gather around her.

But they weren't ordinary.

Each one carried emotion.

Regret.

Rage.

Hope.

Pain.

— My power… — Abby said — doesn't come from energy alone.

She looked at Annie.

— It comes from me.

A pause.

— My father always said… too much emotion destroys the body.

She closed her eyes briefly.

— Sentinel Cannon… doesn't just consume aura.

She opened them again.

— It consumes soul.

And blood.

The Apostle laughed.

A distorted sound, echoing like multiple voices layered together.

— Fascinating…

His tone dripped with mockery.

— A power limited by your own life.

He tilted his head.

— How ironic.

His eyes burned violet.

— You fight… knowing you will die.

A monstrous grin spread.

— Pathetic.

With a simple flick of his fingers—

Darkness obeyed.

The tendrils surged forward.

But this time—

They split midair.

Multiplying.

Bending their trajectories like they ignored physics itself.

Annie reacted instantly.

— ABBY, GET BEHIND ME!

Her weapon manifested.

Prismatic Light Blade.

The blade burst into color—blue, pink, gold—each hue vibrating with a different frequency of power.

She pivoted.

Horizontal slash.

The air split.

A wave of radiant energy surged forward—

BOOOOM!

The collision detonated.

But it wasn't enough.

The force sent both girls flying into a stone wall.

CRASH!

The structure cracked.

The ground shattered.

Annie dropped to her knees.

Blood ran from her lips.

Her breathing faltered.

— Abby… — she whispered — you have to run…

Abby slowly lifted her head.

Tears filled her eyes.

— No…

She crawled toward her.

— I won't leave you here.

Her voice broke.

— I can't…

🔁 FLASHBACK

A quiet field.

Soft light.

Liv sat there, injured… but smiling.

— You failed the mission…

Abby knelt, crying.

— I know…

Liv tilted her head gently.

— But do you know what's worse than failing?

A pause.

Her smile was warm.

— Giving up…

Their eyes met.

— Because you're afraid to try again.

🔥 Back to Present

Abby's eyes snapped open.

Different.

Steady.

Her tears evaporated.

— Then this is it…

She rose.

Even as her body trembled.

Even through the pain.

— I still have… two chances.

She raised her hand.

The sky responded.

— SATELLITES, LOCK POSITION!!

The heavens split open.

As if reality itself had been torn apart.

Orbs of light appeared—slowly orbiting, each one pulsing with raw emotional energy.

Every sphere glowed with a different color.

— Second activation…

Her voice trembled—

But not from fear.

— Rain of Emotions!

The spheres fired.

Beams rained down like meteors.

But each impact—

Was more than destruction.

It was feeling.

Explosions of guilt.

Love.

Rage.

Forgiveness.

The entire village was engulfed in a living aurora.

The Apostle screamed.

His body twisted violently.

The darkness around him began to crack.

— RAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

But then—

He stopped.

And laughed.

— HAHAHAHAHA!!

Even as he burned.

Even as he broke.

— You… will die for this.

He lunged.

Faster.

More monstrous.

His body warped.

His arm became a mass of condensed darkness, pulsing like a corrupted heart.

— I WILL ERASE YOU!

Annie tried to stand.

— ABBY!!

Too late.

The attack was coming.

Inevitable.

⚔️ CLANG!

The sound rang out like a divine bell.

A blade cut across the battlefield.

No—

A flame.

A falling star.

A golden line slicing through the world.

🔥💥

The Apostle froze.

For a second.

Then—

His body split.

Clean.

Precise.

The darkness shattered.

Exploded into fragments of ash and fading light.

A red-gold brilliance flooded the square.

And when it faded—

He stood there.

Dante Valtier.

Between them.

His crimson hair danced in the wind.

His eyes burned like the sun.

And his blade—

Was alive.

Not ordinary fire.

Sacred flame.

Steady.

Controlled.

— You two did well.

His voice was calm.

Grounded.

— But now…

He stepped forward.

— It's my turn.

The heat intensified.

But it didn't burn.

It protected.

Dante raised his sword.

— Solar Blade…

Light gathered.

Condensed along the edge.

— Light of the Promise.

The name echoed.

— A technique inherited from my mother…

His expression softened.

— Diana Flamesoul.

He moved.

In a single motion—

He struck.

No explosion.

No chaos.

Only… purification.

The blade passed through the Apostle.

Light consumed darkness.

Erased it.

As if it had never existed.

Silence.

Complete.

The darkness vanished.

The sky cleared.

And a warm breeze swept through the village.

🌌 Aftermath

Abby collapsed to her knees.

Her body finally gave in.

Tears streamed down her face.

— I… survived?

Dante knelt beside her.

Placed a hand on her shoulder.

— Yes.

A soft smile.

— Because you didn't give up.

He looked at Annie.

— Because both of you didn't give up.

Annie reached out her hand.

Abby grabbed it.

Tightly.

— We were saved… — Annie said

A pause.

Her eyes sharpened.

— But we weren't defeated.

Abby nodded.

— We still have a long way to go.

Dante looked up at the sky.

Now golden.

But something in his expression shifted.

— The problem is…

His voice lowered.

— The world…

A pause.

— Is getting darker.

The wind passed through again.

This time—

It didn't bring peace.
