Chapter 279: Someone from Konoha Has Arrived!
Get the Two-Tails' acknowledgment? Samui was intrigued by this "mission." But beneath the novelty, she also felt a flicker of unease.
After becoming a Jinchuriki candidate, she had received a great deal of intel from the "Raikage." The most important part was a note left by the previous Eight-Tails Jinchuriki, Fukai: "A Jinchuriki needs more than just aptitude, power, and bloodline. The most important thing is something to fill the void in their heart."
Samui had no idea what "something to fill the void" meant. But she could sense that Fukai's view of a Jinchuriki and the "Shadow of Darkness's" view were completely different. Fukai had sought that "something" to better control the Tailed Beast and increase his own strength. But the Shadow of Darkness wanted her to earn the Tailed Beast's acknowledgment.
Why would a Jinchuriki need a Tailed Beast's acknowledgment? Can a Tailed Beast even acknowledge a Jinchuriki?
She couldn't find an answer and could only look to Keisuke for help. "Teacher, how do I do that?"
"This is your mission," he replied, his tone somewhat cold. "Are you sure you need me to give you a specific plan?"
Samui recalled his exact words: "By the name of 'Teacher'... your first mission..." Is this mission not just about gaining the Two-Tails' acknowledgment, but also gaining his? She felt she was on the right track.
"No, my apologies, Teacher. That was reckless of me," she said, pushing through her exhaustion. "I will complete this mission on my own."
Keisuke nodded, satisfied. It wasn't that he couldn't teach her how to reconcile with Matatabi, but he wasn't a Jinchuriki himself. This was a process she had to go through on her own.
"Gaining its acknowledgment is a long-term goal. You don't need to be so fixated on it right now," he said, his voice softening. "Rest for now. I'll wake you when we arrive."
"Thank you, Teacher." Samui lay back down and curled up, her mind racing as she drifted off to sleep.
The Shadow Creature flew across the Land of Lightning, over the Land of Frost, and into the Land of Hot Water. As evening approached, they arrived at the temporary research base. On the way, Keisuke had seen Shisui, Kakashi, and the others heading back to the main camp, but under his invisibility, they hadn't noticed him.
He landed the creature, and seeing Samui was still fast asleep, he didn't have the heart to wake her. He gently lifted her with his shadows and carried her inside. He placed her on a bed, put the [Amber Purifying Pot] in a corner, and then absorbed the memories of the clone he had left there.
After confirming all was in order, he created a few new clones and set them to work organizing the new [Blaze Release] scroll. A short while later, the [Blaze Release Chakra Creation Method] was complete. 'The Yin+Fire fusion... accomplished just like that.'
He now had Yin+Earth (Aegis Release), Yin+Fire (Blaze Release), and the fusions for Earth+Fire (Lava, Crystal, Explosion, Steel). 'The next step,' he thought, his mind already racing, 'is to fuse these Kekkei Genkai. A three-part fusion of Yin, Fire, and Earth, to create a Kekkei Tōta, just like Dust Release!'
Lost in these thoughts, he eventually fell asleep.
The next morning, his internal clock woke him up. Samui was still sleeping, her posture... unladylike. He checked her condition; the Eight Trigrams Seal was working perfectly, and her body was stable.
"Samui," he said, waking her. He tossed her three scrolls and a soldier pill. "Wash up, then eat. The pill will have to do. Then, you're coming with me. I need to see your current combat abilities. You can read those scrolls later."
The sleepy girl was bewildered by the sudden string of commands, but her ninja training kicked in. She quickly got ready and followed him to a nearby clearing.
After a brief practical test, Keisuke confirmed his suspicions. Samui's level... was lower than Shizune's. Her ninjutsu was non-existent, and her "mastery" of swordsmanship was, in his eyes, full of holes. He watched her struggle to even climb a wall using chakra, and silently revised her training plan.
Before she could learn genjutsu or medical ninjutsu, she would have to master the basics: tree-climbing and water-walking. He gave her the new, grueling training regimen and then created an earth-dome shelter for her. "Start with the wall," he said, pointing. "When you can walk up it, you can move on to the water. And don't forget the most important thing: keep talking to Yugito."
"Yes, Teacher!" she said, surprisingly obedient. Kumo's fighting style was all about brute force; this kind of fine chakra control was new to her, but she understood its value.
Keisuke placed a Flying Thunder God marker on her as "insurance," gave a few last instructions, and left. He had no interest in being a full-time babysitter. He had a great white deer to hang out with.
He teleported to Kokuō's side. Isobu, the Three-Tails, just glanced at him and then pulled its head back into its shell. With its "sale" to Konoha now finalized, the turtle had been in a foul mood for days.
Just then, Shisui and the others arrived.
"Captain," Shisui flickered to his side. "You weren't in the camp yesterday. Shikaku-sama asked me to give you a message."
Keisuke's mouth twitched. "What is it?"
"Shikaku-sama said that someone from the village has arrived. He said there is a classified mission that requires your personal attention."
Someone from the village? They must be here for Isobu.
"Thank you, Shisui," Keisuke nodded. "You watch things here."
"Yes, sir!"
Keisuke vanished.
In the Konoha camp, Shikaku was accompanying the "big shot" who had just arrived.
"Shikaku, it's so peaceful here. No fighting. I'm thinking of finding a hot spring to soak in," the man said, his arm slung familiarly around the chief of staff's neck.
Keisuke, having just arrived, recognized the voice. He looked at the white-haired old pervert.
"Did the village send you to perform the sealing ritual for Isobu?" he asked, his voice flat.
"Jiraiya-sama."
